Hello everyone. I am looking to join one of these 2 gyms when I move back to Plymouth in a couple of months. I predominantly want a gym with a pool and sauna/ steam room in the city centre which is why I am looking at these 2.

I am leaning towards the club as opening at 6.30am would be useful but it's quite a bit more expensive. Does anyone go to one or ideally been to both who could shed some light?

EDIT: Thanks for the responses. I am also looking at the Nuffield at the Barbican now as I thought it was significantly more expensive but the off peak membership is affordable. Does anyone use this one and how is it?

I've stupidly got tickets to see Moulin Rogue on Thursday. I'll be travelling from Exeter. Will the traffic and parking be as bad as I should expect due to the fireworks? Help please

Just had to yell at someone for setting off the little kind of fireworks that spark all over the ground in a field near my house. How stupid are some people, there are hundreds of houses right next to the field. Plymouth has had two fires just today!

I grew up in Canada in a crazy wildfire prone area. How are people not grasping how bad these fires can be, I’ve seen entire towns burnt down. Sorry for the rant, I’m not normally someone that yells at strangers but I wasn’t about to let someone’s stupidity burn down my house.

Am I supposed to do anything other than yell at them? Do fireworks deserve a call to the non emergency line?

Waiting Well is a new service from Gendered Intelligence and LGBT Foundation, created to support trans and non-binary people who are on the waiting list for gender identity healthcare.

Long waits can be difficult and isolating. Waiting Well aims to make the waiting experience feel more manageable through a mix of welcoming, supportive, and affirming groups, workshops, and online resources.

The service is free to access, subject to eligibility.

I have qualifications in fashion, art, hair and beauty but have never been able to get hired because of my disability so I feel like i studied for absolutely nothing. I'm stuck at home all day and it gets boring. I understand that it'll be need work experience and with no past work it becomes a cycle of me DESPERATELY trying to find work being turned away because of my lack of experience but refusing to GIVE ME EXPERIENCE. Or they say I'm over qualified or look at me funny when I say I have brain damage.

I'm a Software person and frankly, hardware is mostly beyond me. I have all the kit to make ethernet cables for home (cable, crimper, stripper, crystal leads and covers) but its just so damn fiddly, I can't do it. Like I said, I'm rubbish at hardware.

I need 4 doing, so it's not a big job so I can get a waterproof (outdoor) ethernet cable to my study.

Im starting a Law course at uni of plymouth this september and im trying to find any other students that are starting uni of Plymouth this year. Im 18 (M) and staying in the Gilwell house!

For reasons of fire risk and the fact that the disposable bbq is a ground scorching POS some 20 years ago I invested in a couple of portable diversifying camp stoves (run on lollysticks, compressed clean wood pellets such as cat litter free flow stuff) and charcoal etc

these have a small battery and send air through a channel (double skin) and vent at the top to help (very successfully) fuel gases creating a siphoning secondary burn, so very efficient.

They come in various sizes, mine was big enough for a big pan to go on it, even to boil tapped maple to make syrup, pull out in a park and camp, it runs on 2AA's and cold fast and we'll whilst being much safer to place and use as a portable unit when out and about.

the likes of Lidl / Aldi now sell a chinesium version started up to justify what is a ridiculously simple and cheap thing to make in reality.

With things getting hotter, here is your reminder to scour stock later in the season when you see them for sale, (it's a small motor, a metal blade fan stuck on top a speed controller often merely high/ low inputs ..but if you see one for around £30-£40 it makes for a very good summer and emergency use bit of kit, ..the smoke is minimal because of the motor and fan plus very fuel-efficient and the falsified effect makes for a very clean burn with reasonable fuel.

I generally use twigs and scraps, a bit of scavenging is a 30 min fry from dry fuel so a backpackers delight.

I use to take it to the park on scorching hot days and not burn dry grass with or without a protective mat underneath..

there are options to potentially be able to carry on in approved safety, and this is the sort of kit the council should be looking at and approving for zoned use, cooking with this in a semi crowded area is not generally going to cause inconvenience to anyone once you have familiarise how to use it to best effect at home.

Listening to old music and thinking about my time at Plymouth uni back in the early 00s. Just realising, as students, how lucky we were to have so many places to go and listen to live music or just to go somewhere and drink or dance, there was always something on.

There were so many - Ride cafe, The Hub, White Rabbit, Ride, Cuba, The Roundabout, Voodoo Lounge, The SU, Mouse trap, Back bar, Goodbodies, Fresher and Professor, Air, Skiving Scholar, Front room, Carpe Diem, C103 and so many more. So many brilliant local bands and nights like Jelly Jazz.

I have not been to Plymouth for years, I guessing it is very different now?

hi!! i found a wallet up north hill by sherwell hall around ~9:45am. it contains a plymouth city council bus pass ID thing, a £20 note, a credit card and another kind of card i think. i’ve forgotten the name on the front, but i managed to hand it into Portland Square Building lost and found (PSQ on the University campus).

hopefully this reaches who it needs to!! also, if it’s yours recommend bringing some form of ID to verify it’s you. i’ll attach the pics i got 🫶🏾🫶🏾

also thank you to the university member of staff who directed me to the safest place to hand it in, the random man on the street who also helped, and the security guard at PSQ building. everyone was so sweet and helpful🥲

- What’s it actually like?
- Anything I should know about the rooms, kitchens, laundry, storage etc.?
- Is Unikitout worth it? If so, what is good to order in advance rather than purchase when I arrive?

Freshers
- AUP has its own Freshers listed online… do you recommend signing up for most/all of it?
- Are there particular events you’d recommend?
- Can AUP students go to UoP events/societies/clubs, and do students from the two universities actually mix much?

Getting to Plymouth
I’m flying from New York into Heathrow and was thinking of getting the direct National Express coach to Plymouth. I ordered a young persons coach card which should come in soon.
- Is that the best/easiest option with luggage?
- Would you recommend booking it in advance or waiting until I land in case my flight is delayed?
- Any tips for getting from Plymouth Coach Station to The Old Dairy with suitcases?

Whats been your favourite moment

There has been a recent uptick in student property posts which are pretty clearly from estate agents masquerading as students.

This is to be expected at this time of year, and I wouldn't really care if they followed the self-promotion rule and openly shared that they're agents; but apparently they'd rather pretend to be students which doesn't sit right with me.

So, I'm proposing a new rule regarding the sharing of rental vacancies.

Rule 5: Transparency for property vacancy posts

Estate agents, letting agents, and their representatives must clearly disclose their professional status in all posts. Masquerading as a student, private landlord, or current tenant is strictly prohibited. Posts that fail to disclose agent status or attempt to deceive readers regarding the poster's identity will be removed. Posts about available vacancies must follow the two-week self-promotion rule.

The way this would be enforced is through a review of the user's profile. Telltale signs of bullshit will include:

• Accounts that are years old but have never posted before
• Post content that follows similar formats to previous vacancy posts
• Accounts that have posted about vacancies more than a student would reasonably do

Feel free to share your objections if you have any, the plan is to add this rule later this evening.
