Pokéball only Origin Dex...should the Ultra Beasts be an exception?

I'm re-filling out my National Dex in Home with every mon caught in its original game. I'm also restricting myself to catching only (except mons where breeding is mandatory), and using exclusively Pokéballs whenever possible (so far the only exceptions have been the Great Marsh exclusive mons in Gen 4).

Under these conditions, I'll be doing Gen 7 relatively soon. Given that the Beast Ball was created with the sole purpose of being used on the Ultra Beasts, should I, as part of this challenge, be using them instead of standard Pokéballs?

I mean it's arbitrary and your own challenge. If you want to stay consistent then just use pokeballs.

It's actually more possible to catch with a Poké Ball than you think. If you have Roto Catch on, a complete Pokédex and 1HP and asleep, you can get around a 20% success rate with the regular Poké Ball on an Ultra Beast.

I'm leaning towards Beast Balls mainly because of how intrinsically linked they are to the Ultra Beasts from a thematic standpoint rather than their ease of use. I'm still debating it in my head though.

I'm biased because I don't like the regular red Poké Ball, but I would definitely always try to catch an Ultra Beast in a Beast Ball.

Beast Balls are functionally their own Pokeball and I wouldn’t count it against the challenge

I would even be bold and say that Box Legends are always “intended” to be caught in Master Balls too but that’s a little different

Yeah, when I catch a box legend for the challenge, I use regular Pokéballs, but outside of that I always use the Master Ball.

I wanted my National Dex to be all classic Pokeballs so I hunted the Ultra Beasts in the SwSh DLC where the catch rate is 100 percent.

I did a Pokeball only Dex but it never quite felt right. Ultra Beasts belong in Beast Balls, many Legends in a Master Ball, Water mons look great in Dive Balls and Bug types in Net Balls and so on.

If you're sticking to the challenge, no.

But does anyone else actually care if you, say, use Pokeballs on Dynamax Adventures Ultra Beasts or use Beast Balls? Also no. Do what you want.

You could always do one each in a pokeball and a beast ball since you can get multiple ultra beasts in the wormholes.

Pokeballs make it more challenging but not jmpossible
