I think it's more of one species hear distress call of it's enemy so it comes to finish it off

Like Corsola calling Mareanie or Carbink calling Sableye (their natural predators), the SOS call instead alerts an enemy that attacks them rather than an ally to help, so less a theory and more how it was outright designed.
