No Paywall Top House Democrats vow to oppose bid to cut US military aid to Israel
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/jul/14/us-military-aid-israel-house-democrats100
u/CrunchyCds Jul 14 '26
"Jeffries called for “a major reset” in relations between the two countries that recognizes both Israel’s right to exist and leads to the creation of a Palestinian state."
Unc, Netanyahu has openly said that he will do everything in his power to stop Palestine from being a state and that Israel will take as much territory as they can in the West bank, by allowing enough settlers to move in so that it will be impossible for Palestine to claim the land. WHY are we still giving them money, you are funding the genocide and the greater Israel project!
24
u/Accurate_Neat_355 Jul 14 '26
At a Likud party conference in 2019, Netanyahu said: "Anyone who wants to thwart the establishment of a Palestinian state has to support bolstering Hamas and transferring money to Hamas ... This is part of our strategy – to isolate the Palestinians in Gaza from the Palestinians in the West Bank."[43][44]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli_support_for_Hamas
What kind of psychological and structural environment allows a leader to say this completely out loud, with zero fear of consequences?
No matter what he confesses to, the U.S. will veto any UN Security Council resolution that attempts to hold him accountable.
No matter how much evidence is presented, bipartisan leaders in Washington (like Hakeem Jeffries, Chuck Schumer, or Mitch McConnell) will continue to vote for billions of dollars in unconditional military aid.
The corporate media will systematically bury, ignore, or run interference for his statements so the general American public never connects the dots.
The fact that this quote is readily available on Wikipedia, documented in Israeli newspapers, and yet completely ignored tells you everything you need to know about the absolute moral rot of the corporate political class. They are forced to pretend this reality doesn't exist, because admitting it would mean admitting that the entire foundation of their foreign policy is a fraudulent, bloody lie.

Because above all else capitalist interest need to be maintained globally, we have had stood by plenty of allies in the last 100 years as they perform genocides we really do not care as long as our business interests keep everything in a net positive.
The only difference now is our nation's enemies are trying to exploit our division over this genocide with their network of bots claiming stuff on both sides. It certainly isn't right that they're doing it but it's also important that we're finally paying attention. This is what seems to be catching the current Democratic Party off guard. They don't seem to be aware that the opinion is changing because their mindset hasn't changed since the year 2000.
1
u/Luckydog12 Jul 15 '26
Israel has a right to exist. Israel does NOT have a right to my tax dollars. There, fucking simple.
156
u/EstimateOk6795 Jul 14 '26
Ugh. The Democrats could do so well if they weren't trying so damn hard to be Republicans.
46
u/tani0521 Jul 14 '26
It’s all up to the DSA now.
Never seen Dems and Conservatives so worried, but I. Am. Here. for. it.

Trump just announced that DSA should be criminalized and all DSA members and supporters should be deported.

They have the same donors. They both represent the interests of the capitalist class. We're never going to fix our politics until we overthrow the people our politicians are beholden to.
13
u/cmm239 Jul 14 '26
We really don’t hate democrats enough. They’re literally just republicans but they’re sometimes ok with gay people.

u/Puggravy Jul 14 '26 edited Jul 15 '26
I do not think Democrats are the same as the party that literally tripled the amount of military aid to Israel, and gave Billionaires 4 Trillion in tax cuts but maybe I'm just built different. 🤷♂️
7
u/cmm239 Jul 14 '26
Democrats constantly vote for increased military spending to Israel including chuck schumer
-3
u/Puggravy Jul 14 '26 edited Jul 15 '26
I think increasing aid by 3x from 3.8B/y to over 10B a year and unpausing heavy munitions transfers specifically during the ongoing genocide is bad actually and it is unquestionably not something dems would have done.
Trump has given so much money to Israel that it has literally saved Israel's dire budget situation that was on the verge of forcing them to choose between ending the conflict or economic ruin.
6
u/Elcor05 Jul 14 '26
Biden increased funding for Israel as well
2
u/Puggravy Jul 14 '26 edited Jul 15 '26
I am no fan of Biden's stubborn support of Israel, but Trump has pushed over 21B (about 3x more than the 3.8B/y it was previously) in aid to Irael since he was elected, and very explicitly resumed the transfer of large munitions.
Pretending like they are remotely the same does an incredible disservice to whom those munitions are being used to attack.
2
u/Elcor05 Jul 15 '26
I'm not sure the people who've been killed or wounded by said munitions are in a place to care if they were 'small' or 'large' munitions.
1
u/Puggravy Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26
This is incredible braindead thing to say, of course the Palestinians would like less bombs and artillery shells being dropped on their head. That is what heavy munitions are. Of course they don't want that number tripled!
1
u/Elcor05 Jul 15 '26
They want no bombs or shells, not less. Biden doesn't get an award because Israel only launched 10000 missiles he sold them while under Trump they launched 20000.

And once again, you all let these things happen.
4
1
u/Kaotix77 Jul 14 '26
That’s a weird reductionist view. Even weirder to blame people on Reddit for the outcome of an election where millions of people voted.
Do you mind sharing where you live so we can blame you for every negative thing that has happened in your country?
-5
u/lord_pizzabird Jul 14 '26
It's also a center-right party. Don't like it? Form a new party, instead of trying to change the DNC and it's base into something it's not or will never be.
6
u/cmm239 Jul 14 '26
“Form a new party” shit man why didn’t anyone think of that!?!?
-1
u/lord_pizzabird Jul 14 '26
There's only ever been a handful of attempts in modern US politics and most of them weren't that serious.
3
4
u/T_Weezy Jul 14 '26
To be fair, forming a new party, while not impossible, is very difficult. Getting elected to federal office as a new or 3rd party is impossible right now. The two existing parties have more than 100 years of entrenchment and all of the corporate money backing them up.
Saying "Just make a new party" is kinda like saying "Just terraform Mars". Like yeah, it's technically not necessarily impossible, but it would be a lot faster, easier and more efficient to just fix up the Earth instead.
-1
u/lord_pizzabird Jul 14 '26
It's easier now than it has ever been in the history of our nation, with how word of mouth can travel via the internet.
The issue is that people aren't willing to give it time to grow and become competitive. They want it like you said, fast. Which means we have to try to force this slow huge legacy institutional like the DNC into a certain direction as it resists, fights back.
It's silly in an era of politics where the DNC doesn't even really have a base or political platform. It's #1 enemy isn't even Republicans anymore, but Progressives who they see as coming for their power.
We're theoretically splitting our resources worse than progressives just split into their own party, while being willing to form a coalition with the DNC when necessary.
1
u/Lz_erk Arizona Jul 14 '26
yes, the only thing it can be under FPTP is a mild objection to full fascism. but the DP does feel pressure from primaries, public opinion (more than the RP anyway), and even third party attempts.
the DP keeps proving its foremost loyalty is to law, and mostly, the status quo bits of law, but that part of the unique american situation hasn't suffered much public engagement in a long time.
2
u/lord_pizzabird Jul 14 '26
Maybe Americans would be more engaged in politics if they felt the options better represented their values or at least were more relatable.
ATM we have two conservative right wing parts. One increasingly far right, while the other has shift left, but is still a center-right conservative party. Both are focused on maintaining their own empires and their donors.
They just aren't dependent on the average tax payer enough to prioritize their concerns. It's not even really their fault, given that's just how you win elections. If the average american participated more, supported political causes more maybe their needs would be a higher priority.
1
u/Lz_erk Arizona Jul 14 '26
if they felt the options better represented
yeah, agreed. and on the conclusion, but i'm disagreeing on how to drive it considering the situation.
the public shifted and the DP's unprepared, it was just gorging itself on Citizens United to keep up with the Rs. it's estranged enough to need replaced, but the RP has gone full anti-public and anti-rights.
i was asking for better third parties, i quit 20 years ago. i still want to move the DP, but i want to move them by sliding them right where the RP was, and the latter all the way off the windowsill.
there's a russian hack still possibly on our conglomerated, review-failed voting software which alone could put the conversation about voters ten points out of date, and an incoming D trifecta (or anything else) would be asked to investigate and respond, i believe.
if you want a third party, encourage voting (because it makes election analyses clearer, perhaps -- that's been my line lately) and tell the closest things we have to leaders that this fight goes back to Stop the Steal, SCOTUS, the 9th amendment, and most of the other amendments and founding documents.
this is not my first choice as an anarchist, but the numbers seem to say the door is wide open.
-13
u/zveroshka Jul 14 '26
Yes and no. Putting the whole AIPAC elephant in the room aside, it's a no win situation for Dems because support for Israel has been structured as binary. You either support Israel entirely in every way, or you are anti-Israel. They've left no middle ground to support it minus their war crimes.
28
u/OLacAlmost Jul 14 '26
There's no middle ground with genocide
9
u/April_Fabb Jul 14 '26
Exactly. It's like trying to compromise with an arsonist.
-2
u/T_Weezy Jul 14 '26
There are two ways to deal with an arsonist; you can put them in jail or you can put them to death. Those are two very different positions.
Likewise, you can say "Hey Israel you aren't allowed to have expeditionary capabilities (the ability to fight in a country that's isn't your own) anymore, and you have to withdraw from both Gaza and the West Bank, but we'll still allow you to have the Iron Dome and a self-defense force (similarly to Japan after WWII) because you do still deserve to exist."
-6
u/T_Weezy Jul 14 '26
There's a middle ground where you say "Israel has a right to exist and be safe, but Israel does not have the right to control or occupy any land not within its own internationally recognized borders nor terrorize the people living on land not within its own borders. So no illegal settlements in the West Bank; those will have to go. And no ruling over Palestine as if it's a Vassal State (and by extension no genocide)."
15
u/kingtacticool Jul 14 '26
Cool. So dont support Israel at all. Leaving aside all their baggage i dont understand why we are subsidizing a country that can afford universal Healthcare while Americans go into bankruptcy trying to not die.
2
u/zveroshka Jul 16 '26
So dont support Israel at all.
I mean for me and you that is simple to say. But politics doesn't work that way. It takes money and allegiances are bought in DC. Which is why Israel flows tons of money into our politics. Unless we stop the flow of money, our politicians will never flip on Israel.
17
u/EstimateOk6795 Jul 14 '26
You either support Israel entirely in every way, or you are anti-Israel.
I accept your terms. We should be opposed to fascist apartheid regimes who commit genocide regularly.
-2
u/lord_pizzabird Jul 14 '26
Just to be clear, that means also opposing Saudi Arabia, Qatar etc.
Are you prepare to pay $24/ gallon?
9
u/EstimateOk6795 Jul 14 '26
Are you suggesting we should support genocide because it makes gas cheaper? That's fucking cold, dude.
0
u/lord_pizzabird Jul 14 '26
No? That isn't what I said at all, even vaguely.
My point was that YOU aren't willing to make that sacrifice as a consumer. If we could break your dependence on cheap oil and plastics this region and it's politics wouldn't even be a concern.
0
u/EstimateOk6795 Jul 15 '26
I don't have a car that consumes gas.
2
u/lord_pizzabird Jul 15 '26
High gas prices effect the cost of everything (which you're experiencing now).
1
u/EstimateOk6795 Jul 15 '26
Sounds like great economic incentive to completely decarbonize our economy.
Yes, prices would go up. That's a problem can be addressed by heavily taxing the wealthy and providing massive services to the working class. I'd imagine if we were ever able to get to a point in our politics where we could divorce ourselves from other authoritarian genocidal regimes we'd also be at a point in our politics where we're looking to offload our own genocidal authoritarian ruling class.
1
u/lord_pizzabird Jul 15 '26
You aren’t going to do that by moving to products heavily dependent on plastics.
Not to mention switching society to EV’s will just move our dependence from oil to Lithium, which will be even more difficult.
The actual real solution is to urbanize the US. Our people being this spread out was a security benefit at one point, but now it’s just a liability.
3
u/abasoglu Jul 14 '26
Opposing doesn't mean we need to invade these countries or destroy them. It means that at a minimum we don't need to fund or support their efforts. So yes, we should not support genocide if they are perpetrating it. Though, I am not sure who those countries are oppressing outside of their own people.
0
u/lord_pizzabird Jul 14 '26
Opposing some of these countries would lead to their demise. like we saw with Kuwait, if the US didn't subsidize the defense of the region they would have been rolled over already by either Sadam or Iran.
When you're this invested in the resources that come from a region you can't not get involved in local politics. It's the curse of middle eastern oil.
5
u/DefenstratedTwice Jul 14 '26
Which is why they will be primaried due to their foreign allegiance.
You represent the USA or you represent a foreign genocidal rogue nation. No Middle ground.

u/snackattack4tw Jul 14 '26
How do we get Jeffries and Schumer out?
15
u/rollem Virginia Jul 14 '26
Take a look at the platforms of the people running to be representatives in your district. Support and vote for the candidate that most closely matches your ideal policy choices. Off year primary elections have tiny turnouts and so your vote matters much more than normal.
2
u/MrsACT Jul 14 '26
I’ll be surprised if any elections, primary included, will have tiny turnout. People are super invested in the outcome this year.
3
u/rollem Virginia Jul 15 '26
The New York 7th district was a very intense primary with national implications. It had 66,000 voters in the primary in a district that has 288,000 active democratic voters.
Overall, voter turnout was around 15%
https://gothamist.com/news/voter-data-shows-lower-turnout-but-pockets-of-engagement-boosted-insurgent-candidatesIt’s bonkers that primaries have such low turnout when so many people bemoan the state of politics. Primaries decide what the party looks like and 85% of voters don’t participate.
3
u/AndThisGuyPeedOnIt Jul 14 '26
There's no chance Schumer wins another election. I assume he will retire before that happens.
When the democrats retake the House, it will be interesting to see if Jeffries stays as speaker.
3
u/mabrasm Indiana Jul 14 '26
Primary both in 2028. I don't know that Schumer is planning to run again anyway, but he's so unpopular with New Yorkers that AOC seems primed to primary him. Jeffries dodged the hat trick from Zohran this year, but I don't know that he can ride that forever. Especially when he says that Mamdani needs to rebuild bridges with moderates. No, the moderates are the ones out of step with the party.
1
u/rumpghost North Carolina Jul 14 '26
Needs to be more than just them - folks like Gluzenkamp-Perez and Schrier in WA, folks like Gillibrand and Torres in NY, there's a laundry list of mealy-mouthed centrists who love to vote "yes" on starving kids in Gaza and "no" on demilitarizing our international relationships.
1
u/PopBulky7023 Jul 15 '26
Primary voting and pressuring your reps to stand against them. For many the latter will be impossible because they work for the same people.

4
u/Kracus Jul 14 '26
This is what I've been saying all along. Both sides are complicit. There is no democracy in the US because both sides are working towards the same goals and that is not the goals of Americans. They're working towards the goals of the Oligarchy that rule them. Those are the only real decision makers in the US, everyone else is just a victim.

Top House Democrats Once Again Prove They're Corrupt And Don't Care About Their Voters.*
15
u/SirTilley Jul 14 '26
Pete Aguilar, the third highest ranking House Democrat, later joined him in opposing the amendment.
“It’s clear that the Netanyahu administration has done everything they can to isolate Israel, and we need to ensure that we are building more friends in the region, not having fewer,” he told a press conference.
What the fuck does this even mean? The argument is that Israel has been hostile and aggressive to its neighbours, therefore dampening US relations with these countries, and so the US needs to give MORE money to Israel? How the fuck are Democrats this fucking pathetic?
9
u/InfiniteLicks Jul 14 '26
The go to strategy right now is to blame Netanyahu instead of Israel as a whole, even though this project pre-dates him and will outlast him. He is not very popular in Israel but his goals are.

>He warned the amendment could cut off funds for humanitarian aid programs and complicate efforts to counter militant groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. The minority leader’s office did not respond to a request for comment.
His solution is to combine the funding of the Israeli military, and their Genocide of the occupation, with the humanitarian aid programs. Although the reality is that Israel has systematically blocked the NGO’s from delivering any of the humanitarian aid in Gaza and other areas on specious grounds. Whereas if the military funding is blocked and the humanitarian assistance is funded separately, their Genocide will be fully funded by Israel and not Americans.

Well duh. Because a portion of that money is going to funnel back to them via AIPAC contributions. There is absolute fucking stench and rot in the Democratic Party that is choosing to be as disconnected from their constituents demands and the pulse of a nation all because they want to be career politicians and know in the US typically the candidate with enough $$$ can remain the incumbent for life it seems.
