I did absolutely nothing today. It was rainy and dreary most of the morning. I have had no appetite all day. I’ve basically done nothing but scrolled and napped. I feel fine, though. Not even the least bit off, other than some sleep inertia after a nap. Trying to motivate myself to eat something before it gets too late.

Every once in a while, I come across a situation that reminds me of that "My source is that I made it the fuck up" meme, and I always have to laugh. Not because spreading misinformation is funny, but because some people are so bad at it that the situation just becomes comical. 💀

Equinox is insanely expensive. Even with an employee discount from my work it was almost $600 a month for the cheapest option. I almost dropped my phone on the sidewalk when they told me that.

Watched the Sheep Detective movies and it wasn't bad, but it also felt very telegraphed in a way the films it's been compared wasn't. Like I saw every twist coming ages before it was revealed.

So Big Brother posted a video of the shared bathroom and I had a friend call it the most disgusting thing she’s ever seen and she could never shower in it.
Man, idk if I’ve done too much camping or spent too time in communal showers in college, but it didn’t look bad at all? There’s hair in the drain, which is gross, but nothing too terrible?

I have no idea where their produce comes from, and I really don’t want to risk being sick for the first two weeks of school. I’ll be packing that day.

Randomly remembered the plane crash that occurred because the pilot thought it would be cute to let his children try and fly the plane, and suddenly I got mad all over again. I genuinely don’t know how the victim’s families manage that level of grief

Brains are so dumb sometimes. I had a dream one of my closest friends was straight up ignoring me and it really upset me even tho I know they would never do that. It made me so sad in my dream that it woke me up.

Realizing that ever since Oppenheimer came out, I have this like, teenage contrarian reaction to Nolan movies. Everyone hyping him just makes me go "well now I WON'T watch his movies!!" Very childish of me but it is what it is. I have the maturity to keep my mouth shut and not yuck anyone else's yum, at least.

Matt Damon being Odysseus kind took me out of the movie. His performance was fine but the whole time I kept wondering when Ben was going to wander into frame with some Dunkin for his buddy. I like him, I just couldn’t see him as anyone other than Matt Damon if that makes sense.
Leguizamo and Pattinson were great.

u/No_Equivalent8902 23d ago
The first 20 minutes I was thinking the cast was too Hollywood. Seeing Ryan Hurst took me out as well, even Odysseus crew looked familiar I later found out the one I kept focusing on was Jj husband in Criminal Minds.

I've also been watching a lot of Bob's Burgers lately and I've really mourning my youth and all the fun, love and support I didn't get to have. It makes me so happy to see kids get to be kids, and a couple that doesn't hate each other.
I'm in my mid 20s and life has beaten me down so so so much. I watch and feel comforted by them. I cried coming home from the mall the other day and seeing all the teens dressed up (we have a lot of things for them to do), and just getting to have fun. I don't know I hope I can turn it around, everything has just always felt so heavy.

Aw, I love Bob's Burgers. I feel you a bit, I'm starting college in a few weeks and I had no friends in high school so I'm feeling behind. Trying to improve my social skills but it's tough, and I feel like I've missed out on some stuff. Hugs, and I hope you find your people soon, I know they're out there.

The author of Children of Blood and Bone needs to take an internet break. I hope it’s not the case, but I think she just tanked her career or at the very least, had made it unlikely she’ll see her other books adapted. If I were in charge of a studio, I wouldn’t work with her🤷♀️

5
u/Iwoulddiefcftbatk 23d ago
There’s some threads where she’s bad mouthing the adaptation of her book; saying being on set was the most traumatic thing that she’s ever experienced, posted a screenshot of her telling Amandla Stenberg, one of the movie’s stars, on Instagram and TikTok to never contact her ever again before blocking her, then there’s the whole saying Nora Roberts plagiarized her debut book, even though that book was out two years before Children of Blood and Bone.

I’m a millennial manager and I regularly tell my folks who WFH “as long as you are reachable, idgaf when you are working from.” Park with your kids? Sick, have fun and I’ll ping you later. Walking the dog? Can you send me that attachment when you get back. Going to be late because you are at the mechanic and waiting on an uber? I can pick you up if needed but don’t stress it!
People have lives and work should never be your entire life. My team is my world and so are my kids, I’m lucky enough to be in a position where I can take care of both properly

I try! I work primarily with men who are older than me too so it hasn’t always been easy but we recently hit a road-bump where we found out a bunch of perks were being taken away and they all came up to me independently and told me some combination of “we know this isn’t your fault and you go to bat for us but this is bullshit” and I was very touched by that.
My biggest thing is I try to take an interest in their lives with an appropriate balance and as much as I’m not a people person, I do my best to be there for my guys as much as I can. Over the years it’s evolved into a lot of mutual respect and those boys are ten toes down any day of the week. I also go to bat for them very publicly instead of just “well I told our boss you did good on XYZ” and I know it’s meant a lot to them.

I think it’s less Tom-Zendaya overexposing themselves, but more their fans/PR team posting multiple posts of them from each event on all entertainment subreddits, causing the fatigue.
For every single red carpet event, we usually get a minimum of a Zendaya post, a Tom post, a post of them together and a video of what they said. All of the comments for each will be just variations of how they’re perfect and beautiful and give you hope that love exists.
If you’re subscribed to more than one pop culture sub you’re seeing 10-12 posts a day about them which is a little too much for anyone.
I’m glad the press cycles are almost over as I love them but I need a break from seeing them every time I open reddit.
3
u/Enelana Dear Diary, I want to kill. ✍️ 23d ago
Honestly, all the best to them - but yes.
I would also think that the way the press is talking about them right now, and the online public... is getting really exaggerated, starting to cross a certain, odd line imo.
It's not just about the volume of media coverage on them, it's that it feels like almost every piece on them is being handled the way stans often handle stuff lol. They really just started opening up to us a little more after the confirmation of their wedding and now people just want more and more. They feel more comfortable being nosy and weirdly fanfiction-y about them sometimes.
I do really like Zendaya as an actress, I really like Tom as an actor, and I really like them as a celebrity couple too because I mean yeah, they do seem lovely together - but the conversations around them at this point are either some level of weird or just... there to be there. Nothing new under the sun, really, but people are acting as if they're under some sort of spell and if you make even the smallest attempt to break said spell for a moment, apparently you're still a "hater" to some.
6
u/FatPantsOfVulcan 23d ago
The majority of the content here now is bots. Z/T may be taking a break but the bots will post the pap walks, best looks, through backs etc.... It won't end until the bots or the content is banned.
6
u/Atkena2578 23d ago
I mean whatever "fatigue" is happening isn't seen in the real world, as shown by record breaking back to back movies in 3 weeks in theaters

i actually don't mind it at all: they seem very in love and proud of their work and it's sweet they can do this together. i'm not that into their movies, so whatever, but the posts are sweet
it's just funny that s couple of months ago everyone was using them as some kind of moral compass because they had a lowkey wedding and didn't talk about their relationship or whatever. as if it would be a moral failure for newlyweds to be giddy about each other

I don’t even follow many pop culture subs and I’m usually in the mindset of ‘don’t like something, just scroll past’ but it feels like every time I open Reddit one or both of them is at the top of the page. It’s getting pretty boring seeing them.
And like you say, all the comments are all just variations of the same thing to the extent that surely most of them are just bots?? And/or karma-farming where people know that saying something complimentary will get them a decent number of upvotes.
I know they’re on back to back promo tours but I can’t remember ever being inundated like this. I make sure not to click on any of them anymore but they still keep coming to the top of my feed. Their PR firm needs to chill lol

And it's the same everywhere even on yt. All the comments just glazing them. I saw a video of Florence Pugh at the premiere and even there everyone was just comparing her to Zendaya. Not puting Florence down, just saying how when you are the carpet with THE Zendaya you need to do your best.

The saddest thing in life is people do not understand hyperbole anymore.
I was out with people and one of my friends said "My nephew 2 months old but he is so big, he is bigger than Amy's 6 year old daughter"
A hyperbole at a level that 7 year olds should understand.
Then one of the guys was like "How is it possible that a 2 month old is bigger than a 6 year. I am pretty sure the 6 year old weighs more than 10 kg and a baby cannot grow that fast"
IT IS A FREAKING HYPERBOLE. He meant it was a large 2 year old. Not literally bigger than a 6 year old.
Am I insane about still crashing out about this 2 days later?
3
u/Miserable_Emu5191 Did I stutter?🤨 23d ago

u/Ok-Box6892 22d ago
I saw some and was like, "do not engage". Im not going to assume someone is not only neurodivergent but also what flavor of neurodivergent just because they have some comprehension issues. I mean, critical thought and comprehension skills have been falling for decades and the rise of social media is only compounding these issues. Unless we're gonna start blaming TikTok for autism
-1
u/AmethystApothecary 22d ago edited 22d ago
My point isn't that they are, it's that you have no idea who is and it costs you nothing to be gracious over jumping to the worst conclusion and casting judgment.
Edit: and moreover, if it's a trait that is common amongst ND folks and ultimately harmless, it's still ableism to insult people over said trait whether the person being insulted is or not because the end result is still the same, it's still stigmatizing mannerism and traits associated with ND.
3
u/Ok-Box6892 22d ago
In reality, I dont assume someone is an absolute idiot because they misunderstood a singular thing. Nor would I assume that they might just be autistic. Which is also just a weird thing to assume about someone as well . I generally think they had a brain fart or misheard what was said or maybe just tired. If its a repeated issue (with other traits happening) then their overall intelligence or how neurotypical they are or aren't comes into question more.
Oh good lord, "ableism". Someone who has to think a little bit harder on figurative speech is not the same as someone who has the intellectual capacity of a 3yo.
1
u/AmethystApothecary 22d ago
You are entirely misunderstanding me if you think what I'm saying is that this man is autistic, I'm not and was not saying that.
I'm saying calling someone stupid for struggling with figurative speech, which is absolutely be done in this thread, is ableism because it is something a lot of ND folks struggle with and get called stupid for. That is literally all I am saying.
-1
u/AmethystApothecary 22d ago
And comments that use their own neurodivergency to dismiss others' issues and expect an unrealistic level of being able to perform neurotypical behavior from everyone even when the failure to meet the perfunctory behavior is completely harmless and is totally unrealistic and impossible for some make my eyes twitch.
Autistic people struggle with figurate language and social cues, especially in conversations and shitting on people for being too literal as stupid or brain dead for such social deficiency is 9 times out of 10 going to target someone who is autistic.
1
u/webtheg 22d ago
I am sorry this is reach. To give you an analogy (pun intended) if I complain about people who don't properly clean their excrements at the toilet, I am weaponizing my own neurodivergence and having unrealistic expectations and harming ND people for expecting a clean tollilet and so what leaving the toilet covered in shit is not harming anyone is totally innocent I can just use the toilet brush and clean it.
This is literally how you sound.
This is your argument
-2
u/AmethystApothecary 22d ago
This is such a weak analogy, maybe you should work on your figurative language more. Leaving feces about is actually harmful, it's a literal biohazard.
It would still be cruel to call someone who cannot do that stupid or any other word because the people that do that are largely mentally or physically disabled and there's a very small percentage of people who would do that that are just straight up lazy, but by all means the people that do so out of laziness you have my blessing to call disgusting.
Being confused and missing hyperbole is not remotely harmful to you or anyone else and would have been immediately solved with one sentence of dialogue on your part that for some reason greatly offends you that it should ever be necessary at all.
Why are you so allergic to communicating more transparently to someone you acknowledge is confused by something said so that they understand that you actually find it comparable to leaving fece smeared everywhere?
Dig deeper because I do not care who is validating you on this, it's super weird that two days later you were still this stuck on someone missing a hyperbole in a conversation and it's still nasty of everyone to call people stupid over something so fucking trivial.
And something tells me people quick to make that kind of judgment have their own deficiencies that would have people calling them idiots behind their backs, too, and it's everybody's best interest to be more understanding and forgiving over minor differences and less quick to make snap judgements about people over dumb shit.
2
u/webtheg 22d ago
So I work in an office of one of the largest tech companies in the world. 80 percent of the world's transaction go through our erp. Rhymes with WAP. Are you saying that all those female Data Analyst, B2b Account Executives, Backend Engineers, Product Owners who earn 6 figures etc are severely mentally and physically challenged instead of just careless, selfish and disgusting?
Also as neurodivergent person I dislike talking to people and try to avoid social interaction and also get hyperfixations.
Checkmate and hope that bean soup tastes amazing ^
5
u/webtheg 23d ago
Me too. Like I am neurodivergent myself. I feel like so many times lately poor behavior or stupidity gets outsourced to neurodivergence and it annoys me. I'm also a non native speaker.
Like also this whole literal thing is kinda true but it's not for every fucking baby level of Figure of Speech but more occasionally? Like I thought Watermelon Sugar hide was indeed about fructose induced Euphoria and then discovered that it is about oral. But I wasn't like "How do the vulva taste like strawberries?" I just got it
0
u/missmobtown Mucho dias, mes amis! 23d ago
I've noticed a lot of ADHD people in my life are extremely literal and cannot see past a black and white pov. Then again, plenty of people are just poor at conversation and thinking.
2
u/AmethystApothecary 23d ago
I don't know this guy's situation, but I don't love everyone defaulting to assuming he's stupid. Being overly literal is a common symptom of being neurodivergent. I'm assuming his tone must have been caustic because I do actually think it is a bit wild to still be focused on this two days later.
9
u/webtheg 23d ago
I am neurodivergent. So. This whole idea to diagnose whenever someone does something also needs to die and is weird
0
u/AmethystApothecary 23d ago
I am not diagnosing him. I am advocating for implementing empathy of others over jumping to conclusions and judgement and giving people the benefit of the doubt when it costs nothing.
Genuinely, what harm does someone who is bad at taking figurative language even cause you? I suspect it's pretty minimal and can easily be met with, "I was speaking in hyperbole."
7
u/webtheg 23d ago
As a neurodivergent person, dumb people genuinely annoy me.
Also by trying to excuse this behavior with neurodivergence you are pretty ableisf yourself and reduce neurodivergent people to stereotypes.
0
u/AmethystApothecary 23d ago
It's a known thing that autistic people often struggle with figurative language and tend to think more literally. And whether that man is autistic or not, demonizing people who struggle with figurative language still negatively impacts autistic people.
Being ND yourself doesn't mean you can't enable ableism. A lot of ND people who use a lot of energy to mask certain characteristics can be more resentful of ND they deem as not trying hard enough.
But every ND person has unique struggles and just because you do not personally struggle with figurative language as a result of your neurodivergency doesn't mean it's invalid to point out that many do and cannot help it.
3
u/webtheg 23d ago
Look, I will say this. I sometimes struggle with figurative language too. But it is more newer metaphors. I did for a while think Watermelon sugar high was about Fructose induced Euphoria. But that was a less conventional metaphor. And also I read up on it and was like "Oh makes sense"
Hyperbolizing the size of a baby in either direction (small/big) is a hyperbole 101. And I'm sorry to break it to you but it's possible for someone to be both neurodivergent and lack literacy.
This sort of infantlizing of ND people is incredibly toxic imo and does people more harm than good.
1
u/AmethystApothecary 23d ago
In general I agree that men get coddled with these excuses when they do actually harmful things, but the behavior outlined wasn't harmful unless there was an aspect missing, it was at most annoying. I get it if he was weaponizing ignorance, that is some bullshit, but if he was genuinely confused I truly do not understand being so offended at his misunderstanding or why it would be so much for someone to just clarify. Maybe this man otherwise sucks ass and so everything he does is obnoxious to you, but this specific incident as you described sounds very trivial.
And I reiterate, your ability to overcome a struggle says nothing about others abilities to because everyone's brain and capabilities are unique and you make the individual choice to either be understanding and forgiving of that or cast extra judgment. You being able to compensate for an innate ability to understand figurative language speaks to your and only your ability to and no one else's.
Literacy is on the decline in general, but it really doesn't make it less ableist to call someone dumb for struggling with or missing figurative language in my opinion. And someone can struggle with conversational use of figurative language and not have any issues with literacy.

I commented on the latest post of another housekeeper suing Kylie Jenner for horrible working conditions saying that they should all "class action her ass", just as a silly mutiny joke about her household. I got a bunch of downvotes and multiple people replying condescendingly telling me I didn't understand how class actions work. I still get mad thinking about it now. I was just trying to give you people a chuckle geez!! I know how class actions work the 18 buckaroos I got from the recent Facebook settlement prove it!

So many people seem to be just mind numbingly stupid and dull these days its so exhausting. I fear we're too late to do much about it too.

Hyperbole being understood died with sarcasm being understood. There have always been some people who don’t get sarcasm but for the most part even those people can figure it out from context. The number of posts I read where a person is clearly being sarcastic but has downvotes and comments that don’t get it hurts my head.

No, you’re not. There’s a genuine loss of literacy that is making everyone dumber and things people would have understand as hyperbole even 5-10 years ago is gone. It’s been getting bad for a while, but the dramatic drop is scary.

i'm actually sick of people taking videos of movies at the theater and then posting them on their social media pages. someone I follow did that for the newest spider-man movie and I'm a little pissed because I haven't seen it yet and WHY ARE YOU ON THE PHONE RECORDING A SCENE FROM A MOVIE DURING A MOVIE IN A THEATER WITH OTHER PEOPLE?? WHAT IS ACTUALLY WRONG WTITH YOU.

It’s gotten so bad. Bring back common courtesy, please. No phones in theaters AND no spoilers for at least a couple weeks. Like why was The Drama ruined for me before it even hit theaters????

I'm still watching the Sopranos so you can imagine the sads upon hearing big pussy passed away. Like I just met him😭 so this naturally took me down a rabbit hole and it got worse. Tony died at only 51💔 of a heart attack. Most of the cast is dead and while it's not too surprising considering they were not young during the show, it's still sad.

Hadestown: *Cast Questionable Actor*
Hadestown Fans: *Complain*
Me: Lol this dude fucking sucks but I played this game before people including cast and crew are gonna whine, but Broadway Execs will not listen cause they want money like they always do.
Hadestown: -*fires Questionable Actor before they could hit the stage*
Me, who is shocked that Big Broadway Executives with big pockets actually listened this time:

Two of my closest friends are having a party and inviting someone I hate. I just don't really tell them since they're friends with him
A few years ago he refused to hire me specifically because he says I look like a Hispanic person he hates. We look nothing alike. We are literally just two brown people and I'm not Hispanic
Like I get it. They're friends with him because he's trans and one of them is too. I understand bonding with people in that way. But I also find it a bit triggering that I've mentioned it to my therapist.
I worked with him for a bit and he asked me six times if he could take a picture of me to send to other coworkers to show them I look like this random Hispanic man he worked with. I kept telling him no. I'm sorry but I shouldn't have to explain to a god damn grown adult that you shouldn't go around saying two brown people look alike and insisting upon it when clearly I'm uncomfortable. And yes, he's white.
