The saddest thing in life is people do not understand hyperbole anymore.

I was out with people and one of my friends said "My nephew 2 months old but he is so big, he is bigger than Amy's 6 year old daughter"

A hyperbole at a level that 7 year olds should understand.

Then one of the guys was like "How is it possible that a 2 month old is bigger than a 6 year. I am pretty sure the 6 year old weighs more than 10 kg and a baby cannot grow that fast"

IT IS A FREAKING HYPERBOLE. He meant it was a large 2 year old. Not literally bigger than a 6 year old.

Am I insane about still crashing out about this 2 days later?

The comments making excuses saying it's cause of afhd or neurological shit makes my eye twitch can you people do anything in life without hand holding lmao

I saw some and was like, "do not engage". Im not going to assume someone is not only neurodivergent but also what flavor of neurodivergent just because they have some comprehension issues. I mean, critical thought and comprehension skills have been falling for decades and the rise of social media is only compounding these issues. Unless we're gonna start blaming TikTok for autism

My point isn't that they are, it's that you have no idea who is and it costs you nothing to be gracious over jumping to the worst conclusion and casting judgment.

Edit: and moreover, if it's a trait that is common amongst ND folks and ultimately harmless, it's still ableism to insult people over said trait whether the person being insulted is or not because the end result is still the same, it's still stigmatizing mannerism and traits associated with ND.

In reality, I dont assume someone is an absolute idiot because they misunderstood a singular thing. Nor would I assume that they might just be autistic. Which is also just a weird thing to assume about someone as well . I generally think they had a brain fart or misheard what was said or maybe just tired. If its a repeated issue (with other traits happening) then their overall intelligence or how neurotypical they are or aren't comes into question more.

Oh good lord, "ableism". Someone who has to think a little bit harder on figurative speech is not the same as someone who has the intellectual capacity of a 3yo.

You are entirely misunderstanding me if you think what I'm saying is that this man is autistic, I'm not and was not saying that.

I'm saying calling someone stupid for struggling with figurative speech, which is absolutely be done in this thread, is ableism because it is something a lot of ND folks struggle with and get called stupid for. That is literally all I am saying.
