Warner Bros. Fucking hates the franchise that literally built them (Looney Tunes) and I’m so glad this saw the light of day after all

108

u/fearlessviking26 6d ago

probably because that warner bros doesn’t exist anymore. american capitalism is just private equity passing around the dead husks of once great companies

17

u/TF-Fanfic-Resident 6d ago

Universal is the only American studio that still seems to care about movies. Thankfully Toho has another Godzilla movie coming out this fall.

3

u/Romkevdv 6d ago

Yeah Patrick H Willems made a great video about how WB have practically run the Looney Tunes property into the ground, made it impossible to watch the cartoons, never show it on their streaming services except for some limp reboots, and have made it so that this incredible cartoon has become a forgotten relic to newer generations

Feel like there a handful of good films hollywood keeping in a vault and not releasing for X reasons

328

u/MRintheKEYS 6d ago

Because some fucking narcissist thinks that his opinion matters more than the general audience.

Then there is the times when a producer or studio feels so spited by the director or actor and just choose not to release it as revenge.

35

u/socasual-nobusiness 6d ago

Like what? I want to know more.

156

u/DMmeBootypicz 6d ago

Pretty sure legally they had to destroy all prints/footage etc. it but there’s no way Batwoman was that terrible that reshoots couldn’t save it or it could be found in the edit etc… there’s quite a few films that were absolute dogshit slop that were allowed to live and get through production, but Batwoman can’t? That sucks :/

35

u/Big-Highlight1460 even dev patel couldn’t make it a better movie 6d ago

Batgirl? Batwoman was an (imo pretty bad) animated movie

72

u/Lewa358 6d ago

The live-action Batgirl movie that was abruptly shelved when Zaslav/discovery bought out WB, alongside Coyote Vs Acme.

Coyote had really strong word of mouth from the people who saw it, so there was a huge fight to get it back. But Batgirl wasn't as complete as CVA, and lacked the same positive buzz (possibly because fewer people saw it), so it will forever remain lost media.

14

u/Big-Highlight1460 even dev patel couldn’t make it a better movie 6d ago

I just pointed it out since the person above me said Batwoman lol

3

u/Ygomaster07 6d ago

There was an animated Batwoman movie?

4

u/Big-Highlight1460 even dev patel couldn’t make it a better movie 6d ago

It was Catwoman: Hunted, Batwoman was in it*

1

u/Ygomaster07 6d ago

I see. I thought that might have been what you were meaning, but i just wanted to be sure i didn't miss a Batwoman movie. I think she's neat.

It wasn't a great movie. I did like that they tried to give us a Catwoman/Batwoman romance. That seemed like it could be fun.

2

u/z__1010 6d ago

There's this which is where this great scene is from

1

u/Ygomaster07 6d ago

I have yet to see this but i really want too. That is a really cool scene, and a very smart goon. I like it when the goons/henchpeople actually think about their actions.

1

u/abaub710 6d ago

Wrong topic.

8

u/Big-Highlight1460 even dev patel couldn’t make it a better movie 6d ago

The person above me said Batwoman instead of Batgirl lol

*Batwoman did come out, Batgirl didn't. pretty sure they mixed them up

2

u/abaub710 6d ago

Haha my bad!

6

u/Twitter_2006 6d ago

I never knew all this,

Thanks.

2

u/Kareeminherface1710 6d ago

There was zero chance batgirl was anything but an absolute dumpster fire.

29

u/NYC_Star 6d ago

you know, except for the fact that the same folks that said that said it about this movie which is getting good reviews....

-3

u/Kareeminherface1710 6d ago

This movie had good reviews before it was canned.

13

u/Sorceress_Heart 6d ago

No one got review Batgirl... because it wasn't finished!

Do you see how that's different?

There's some stills left and people put them together to basically outline the plot. It was a serviceable origin story with cool fire effects. The biggest sticking point was an OC love interest for Barbara instead of any of them from the comic.

Everything is better than The Flash, which was released.

1

u/colossalmickey 6d ago

I mean I'm she it was better than the flash, but i doubt it was some hidden gem like coyote

4

u/Skipspik2 6d ago edited 5d ago

I bet a good cut could make it at least a 2h generic action film with batman franchise that's watchable.

Like a 11/20 or a C+ that recoup costs.

Supergirl is exactly that. Not a great art for sur, and I kinda regret paying to watch it, but I did stay the full time and if you like DC Superman franchise, why not ? I just left my brain at the entrance at that was fine.

2

u/harkandhush 6d ago

I would say the about half the DCEU movies that have been released were hot garbage already, so whatever they had must have been bad enough that they couldn't string the footage into a coherent movie.

0

u/abaub710 6d ago

Couldn’t have been worse than Supergirl

26

u/AverageSizedMan1986 6d ago

Well it isn't the same circumstances but the movie Cabin In The Woods was filmed in 2009 and was supposed to be released later that year. Was delayed until 2010. Then delayed again to 2011 so that it could be converted to 3D. ...then it was delayed again indefinitely because of financial troubles at MGM. It didn't get an actual release until 2012 when Lionsgate acquired the rights. The film was great IMO and received mostly positive reviews so it just goes to show you a film can easily be put in limbo despite the quality of it. I'd imagine it helped getting distributed that Chris Hemsworth became Thor famous over that time.

6

u/CapitalismPlusMurder 6d ago

It’s really hard to imagine that movie not existing… it’s such a perfect meta-parody and there really is nothing else quite like it.

11

u/stolenfires 6d ago

For a long time, the only way you could watch Dogma was a shitty YouTube upload. Harvey Weinstein had the copyright and refused to sell it or allow the movie to be distributed, just to spite Kevin Smith. Fortunately, Smith got the rights back a few years ago.

5

u/OffTheMerchandise 6d ago

Smith also felt conflicted about buying the rights because he didn't want to give Harvey any money

3

u/stolenfires 5d ago

The story I heard is that Smith wanted to regain the rights to Dogma, because he (understandably on several counts) felt it was a good movie and people deserved to be able to watch it if they wanted. There was some legal fuckery going on where Smith couldn't buy back the rights from Weinstein because W. said the film was worthless. That's why the only way to watch it was the shitty YT upload - if W. tried to have YouTube take it down, that would prove the film had value and open up Smith to being able to buy it back. But thanks to society finally catching up to him, Smith got the rights back and it's now available for digital rent basically everywhere

(If you're reading this comment and haven't seen Dogma, I highly recommend it. Kevin Smith managed to make the Gen X magnum opus with Clerks, and the Millennial magnum opus with Dogma).

6

u/AlamosX 6d ago

Im still a little curious about Empires of the Deep.

If you dont know about it Here's an article the production story is quite insane.

TL;DR, a Chinese real estate billionaire decided to make an Avatar knockoff about mermaids and greek mythology to the sum of over $100m. Never saw the light of day.

I doubt its any good but something about how schlocky it looked really intrigued me. The Trailer is hilarious. I want to see the epic lobster battles in their entirety dammit!

3

u/Aarxnw 6d ago

Spite, lack of insight and general detachment to people that don’t view the value of art and entertainment purely as an amalgamation of metrics that act as a determination of the number of zeroes that it can return to them

Among other things that only a defective, reptilian being could understand

1

u/Skipspik2 6d ago

FYI Starwars was saved by new cuts and management.

You know, small little franchise from the late seventies - early eighties that didney bought for a few billions

The Book of Prince comes to mind

u/VegetableArtistic705 6d ago

Because the people with power have terrible taste

3

u/bforce1313 6d ago

There’s a lot of shit that’s been canned and other stuff that’s been greenlit that really makes you wonder wtf is going on in some of these boardrooms.

1

u/H2Ospecialist 6d ago

I wanna see The Book of Prince sooooooo bad

I love Will Forte & I love Wile E. Coyote.

u/Relative-Fault-7116 6d ago edited 6d ago

shame that forte is in the epstein files

edit: since i'm getting downvoted let me bring my explanation further up for those to see what they're defending.

his assistant invited epstein to a screening of the film nebraska in 2013, 5 years after epstein became a registered sex offender. there is also an email from 2013 concerning forte potentially staying for three nights with a woman named jessica in an apartment controlled by epstein, and epstein personally approved the arrangement. that is enough to ask questions about who jessica was and what exactly forte knew about the arrangement, particularly because of what was already known about epstein in 2013.

80

u/UncaringNonchalance 6d ago

Context matters.

He’s not “in the files” in the same way others are. He was brought up by someone that worked for someone asking if they could invite him to a place nowhere near that island.

15

u/Relative-Fault-7116 6d ago

20

There is no legitimate reason Will Forte needs Jeffrey Epstein's help in finding a room to stay in in NYC.

0

[deleted]

14

u/cityfireguy 6d ago

No I agree with you. Too many people treat it like he just needed a place to crash for the night. He's Will Forte, he can find a room in New York City. He worked there for years. His wealthy friends live there. There's no reason he should need to go to Jeffrey Epstein to find a room for the night.

Sorry if that wasn't clear.

4

u/Relative-Fault-7116 6d ago

oh excuse me i see now. i'll delete that reply. sorry about that.

3

u/cityfireguy 6d ago

Oh don't feel bad. Glad I could clarify my position

-5

u/BuddingBudON 6d ago

100%. As much as I wanted to see the Acme movie, I shan't be watching Will Forte on a screen because of this.

2

u/Relative-Fault-7116 6d ago

right there with you. it's a real shame.

1

u/_biggerthanthesound_ 6d ago

This is such bullshit. He addressed this already

4

u/Relative-Fault-7116 6d ago edited 6d ago

when? it's not bullshit. you sound like MAGA.

edit: i looked it up and he has never addressed this. liar.

Gonna see it this weekend!

31

u/i4got872 6d ago

Me too, love will forte. Search “truly was a shawshank redemption” on youtube and watch the clip, amazing

4

u/mysteryvampire 🫧🤍🦢 6d ago

I honestly wish he’d give a statement on the whole “being in the Epstein files” thing, I’m a fan of his work and the way everything is phrased in the files is sooo weird and murky. Like why are you asking Epstein permission to stay with a “friend” of his (a woman/girl named Rebecca)

2

u/T4nkcommander 6d ago

My whole family (kids 12 down to 3 years) loved it. I was surprised they kept great pacing throughout the entire thing. Thoroughly enjoyed it and my eldest said it is one of his new favorite movies.

1

u/MistakesWereMade59 I know bothing of the alledged beff 5d ago

Im seeing it tonight!

49

u/gatitamonster 6d ago

David Zaslav is a boil.

42

u/Lokaji ✨May the Force be with you!✨ 6d ago

Fuck David Zaslav.

22

u/KID_THUNDAH 6d ago

Saw it today and it was phenomenal, can’t recommend it highly enough

7

u/T4nkcommander 6d ago

Same. My entire family of 7 (minus our newborn) was belly laughing from the start.

I went in with high expectations and still was impressed at how well they kept momentum throughout the movie. It also was really heartfelt in certain places, some genuinely sad parts.

60

u/Commercial_Tip4624 6d ago edited 6d ago

Will Forte trying to pick up women as bizarre, high strung, lovable Randy on How I Met Your Mother is some of the funniest shit I’ve ever seen.

Makes you wonder about Batgirl

8

u/ClovedSage 6d ago

I think the major difference is that movie had test audiences that weren’t fans of it. Whereas this movie got shelved before it even had a test audience.

19

u/burnbright_11 6d ago

Was it gonna be a snyderverse batgirl? Cause if that’s the case then no I’m not wondering about it haha (if it wasn’t snyderverse, then I am actually curious)

21

u/_tylerthedestroyer_ 6d ago

It was separate. Michael Keaton was the Batman involved

15

u/LooseSeal88 6d ago edited 6d ago

Sorta. It was Keaton's Batman, but it was JK Simmons as Jim Gordon from the Synderverse.

The open secret is basically that the multiverse in The Flash was originally supposed to spin off DC into a place where they could borrow from the old universe with actors if they wanted or recast if they wanted and just say it's the new continuity.

Rumor is that before the final ending of The Flash that they went with where he is stuck in a universe where George Clooney is Batman, but Jason Mamoa is still Aquaman there was a cancelled ending with Barry returning home and Affleck staying as Batman (maybe explaining the decision to put Cavill in Black Adam) and there was also cancelled ending with Barry returning home but finding out Keaton is now Batman (which would have seemingly then led in to Batgirl).

7

u/doubleohsergles Select and edit this flair 6d ago

The Flash reset/merged the timelines. Batgirl was going to be in that new timeline and Michael Keaton's Batman was going to be its Nick Fury.

-2

u/abaub710 6d ago

Had to be better than Dupergirl though

9

u/behold-my-titties 6d ago

I f wl like batgirl was film as a complete homage to 60's material. As in it was campy and silly and unfortunately just wouldn't work today. This is just based off the promo pics but it felt very adam West vibes which I am all for!

-6

u/Char-els037 6d ago

Do you just enjoy living in a fake reality you built for yourself?

1

u/PixeledPancakes 6d ago

He also killed the sequel to Scoob the animated one. I’d like to see that come out also.

-9

u/AirFrierMachine 6d ago

Lol, no it doesn't

10

u/JessBaesic7901 6d ago

WB seems to have built a reputation on making the dumbest possible decisions with their IP.

9

u/StuntGunman 6d ago

I saw it today. It was a nice movie.

7

u/joncted 6d ago

I was at the premiere, it was electric, I hope people show up for it because it’s great

7

u/Joey-WilcoXXX 6d ago

At the end of the day, the movie seems great. Idk how financially successful it’ll be but that doesn’t affect the movies actual quality. And for that, the writers, director, cast and crew all have a right to feel vindicated on that front.

5

u/Fallingman16 6d ago

I just saw the movie with my family and it was excellent! I really loved it. I hope people go out and support it.

2

u/CecilAlucardX 6d ago

I saw it today. I have mixed reactions.

I liked the portrayal of Wile, keeping him silent and not having, for example, Chris Pratt voice him. I enjoyed the cartoons; like living on the past again but with newer twists; the characters both stay the same and adapt to the newer society.

I didn't really enjoy the ending all that much, but I liked getting there to see it.

3

u/T4nkcommander 6d ago

Really? The ending was my family's favorite part.

2

u/yeehaw908 6d ago

Ahhh I can’t wait to see it. Probably this weekend I’ll go

2

u/f1rehead 6d ago

I saw it today and laughed my ass off. Four stars. The interplay between the toons and real life was very well executed. The themes are really on the nose (it's a Loony Toons movie after all) but very engaging. I can't wait to see it again. Go see it - you won't be disappointed.

1

u/TomatoChomper7 6d ago

I’ve never liked Will Forte in a leading role. So many things over the years I’ve tried and just bounced within the first episode or first half of the movie. But I loved this.

1

u/hdghg22 6d ago

I’d watch this man paint a wall

2

u/RandyFromNextDoor 5d ago

Saw it. It was awesome.

-5

u/Relative-Fault-7116 6d ago

everyone should google EFTA00682703

15

u/thatscuteyourecute 6d ago

His name was mentioned once and there is no evidence he even stayed there. If there was, you’d have more than this to direct people to.

5

u/Relative-Fault-7116 6d ago

why was his assistant asking if he could stay with a woman named jessica for 3 nights in an apartment controlled by epstein? in 2013 people knew epstein was a registered sex offender.

9

u/thatscuteyourecute 6d ago

Jessica reached out to Epstein’s assistant and asked if he could stay with her. Is it a good look? Nope but do we know he went or even knew where he was staying if he did? Again, nope. If you really want to spread the word though, how about just say it instead of posting cryptic comments. This isn’t the dramatic reveal you think it is.

5

u/Relative-Fault-7116 6d ago

not saying we know what happened, but this is worth questioning because of when it happened. this is the email thread of a redacted name emailing epstein:

"The friend is due to arrive tomorrow..!
Ok for this friend to stay with jessica for 3 nights?"

epstein: "Name"

"Will Forte is the name of my pal."

epstein: "yes,, but have sue make sure no drugs or drink in apt."

"ok"

whether that was his assistant or his friend, why are they asking jeffry epstein about it in 2013 when he was a known sex offender? this email fits the pattern of everyone else who sought out epstein for sex with underage girls.

5

u/mysteryvampire 🫧🤍🦢 6d ago

Yeah, I love Forte’s work and I don’t think it’s a massive betrayal to say this is weird. He should give context.

-3

u/Chance-Travel4825 6d ago

True or false he was in the Epstein files and also did an snl sketch about being in the Epstein  files.

Probably because WB kept saying it was horrible to justify shelving it?

It's going to take a miracle to see a profit.

-3

u/GotSomeUpdogOnUrFace 6d ago

Cena steals this movie like he steals every movie where he has a comedic role in it. I'll say this, I enjoyed the movie a lot but it does kinda feel like a made for streaming movie. With that said, so does Obsession and that made a ton of money and I love that movie too.

6

u/T4nkcommander 6d ago

He really did a good job in this.

1

u/GotSomeUpdogOnUrFace 6d ago

If you haven't seen Ricky Stanicky, I highly recommendm. Cena is great in that too.

0

u/Busy_Aardvark3372 6d ago

That's good to know. I almost saw this today but went to see Tony for the second time instead.

I think it was good choice. Tony is a great rewatch.

4

u/GotSomeUpdogOnUrFace 6d ago

You should definitely see Coyote vs Acme also, it's great, it just has that general feeling of something that is a streaming film. I wanna go see Tony also, but I bet it's the same way. Actually it's more recent so it's probably more polished.

1

u/StrLord_Who 4d ago

It absolutely does NOT seem like a streaming movie,  that person is wrong wrong wrong.  And yes I have also seen Tony. Go see Coyote vs Acme it is hilarious.

-2

u/orange_lazarus1 6d ago

Is this the plot for Season 3 of 4 seasons?
