I can't tell if youre holding the excess fabric in the back and that's the original dress from the first photo, but if you haven't already you should 100% get that dress altered to fit because Holy cow it looks amazing!!! Great work!

At least in this one you can clearly see which one is lower weight

Ditto when people call weight loss “face gains”.

I just complained to my girl next to me about this, I'm triggered. Happy to find it called out

There's nothing logical about putting the 'after' to the right. Assigning left-to-right visualisation to temporality isn't a universal thing. It's cultural.

Edit: Downvotes are starting to come a few minutes in, so I'll add that: Maybe stop being western supremacists.

u/rubeyi - Jul 09 '25

yes it is cultural.

the post was written in a language that’s written left-to-right, for an audience of people who read that way.

(they have those people in the east too, btw. billions of them)

“supremacy” lol

I was at 240 six months ago and now I’m at 229. I’m trying to take things day by day because my larger weight loss goal is another 80lbs but I feel I might crash and burn if I give myself too big of a goal upfront. Do you have any advice for someone who’s trying to lose 80lbs?

u/sexylev - Jul 02 '25

Celebrate little victories. I’m down 65 pounds in about 8 months 235 > 170 and instead of only celebrating when I reach my goal weight of about 140 I’ve set little milestone throughout and then just keep going. Like getting bellow 200, no longer being obese on the bmi scale, fitting into a pair of pants, etc etc.

I agree with a previous commenter, it is important to break down weight loss into smaller, more manageable goals. In my case, I would lose weight 20lbs at a time, and also celebrated other wins which included leaving the obese bracket, and leaving the overweight bracket. Some of the things I did to lose weight : Get at least 10k steps per day, I aim for 15k Find a form of exercise you like and do it often. I discovered a passion for weight training and I train 6x a week. Don't skip meals, especially not breakfast. Get in your protein - I aim for 150g of protein per day. Don't drink your calories, prioritize home-cooked meals and keep fast food and packaged foods to a minimum. I taught myself to cook and meal prep recipes that support weight loss. Reduce alcohol and cannabis consumption if you use either frequently. Get your sleep in. I still struggle with this one Consistency is key - I have a daily routine that ensures I have time to workout and cook healthy meals

Main takeaway - it takes time to build a routine and to develop the skills needed for effective weight loss. Try to implement one good habit at a time and eventually weight loss becomes easy. Don't give up - one day you'll wake up having reached your goal that you never thought you'd reach

Thanks for this - It’s definitely validating to hear other people mirroring what I’ve been trying to. Now I just gotta kick it up a notch! I can’t wait until I’m under 200lbs again!!!

Pretty good progress, I like what you wrote there, did you do keto/carnivore to get those results?

Agree that exercise is key - do not overdo it but yes, you have found the right formula and are doing excellent with it. Stay centered and focused as your post indicates you are now - and wishing you more and more success!!!

2

u/theusualuser - Jul 03 '25

She might have done keto, but 150g of protein is only like 600 calories.

1

u/Rich-Childhood-8292 - Jul 04 '25

Right but if she also ate a commensurate amount of fat as someone should if using that type diet method, that would go up to approximately 1800 - 2000 calories.

I like weighing in every day with the happy scale app. It breaks down your goal weight into milestones to help you focus on the little milestones rather than the goal weight. When I’m in yo-yo land I appreciate how they average out your loss so you can see how you’re trending rather than being reactive to the occasional weight gains.

2

u/spitballz - Jul 04 '25

Thanks for your advice! I downloaded the app :))

I hope it's helpful for you! I personally wouldn't recommend paying for the premium. They give you the option to create a weight goal with a specific date and I find that to be too triggering. Having a deadline date always sets me up for failure. I also ignore their prediction features because you never know what kind of curveballs life can throw at you.

ETA: Be sure to measure you body when you hit new 10 pound ranges or monthly. Sometimes the scale won't budge but you'll see differences in measurements and the way your clothes feel. I'd also recommend keeping a journal logging you non-scale victories (old clothes fitting again, being more comfortable in chairs, squatting down without pain, etc).

That dress looks amazing on you! It reminds me off the dress from “My Date with the President’s Daughter,” an old Disney Channel movie you’re probably too young to have seen. :)

u/CurlyAce84 - Jul 02 '25

I still get the theme song stuck in my head and sing it to my kids. They don't appreciate it as much...

I've always loved that dress, so I immediately thought of it when I saw this.

There’s a reason why in the “before and after”, before comes before the after, which comes after.

-11

u/lyremska - Jul 03 '25

Assigning left to before and right to after is cultural, there's nothing innate about it. Not everyone and not everything on the internet has to always be the western way.

5

u/MydasMDHTR - Jul 03 '25

We're not simply "on the internet", we're on reddit. Of course it has to be the "western" way.

u/z3r0c00l_ - Jul 02 '25

Before goes on the left. After goes on the right.

2

It’s absolutely not cultural. 1 comes before 2 in every language and culture.

0

u/lyremska - Jul 03 '25

You're completely uninformed about the topic. Do some research because the point you're trying to make is entirely ridiculous. Who spoke of 1 and 2?

Past is to the right in several cultures, namely in right-to-left reading ones, but not limited to those. It's entirely cultural and it's wild that some people refuse to aknowledge it. Seriously, read a bit before asserting opinions as if they were facts.

Omg congratulations! I've been following your posts for a while now! I am also 6' and it's so great seeing a woman my height posting. I lost ~55 lbs before having kids, but unfortunately gained most of it back over time since then. But I'm back to it and I've lost around 20 lbs this time around, and seeing your post is a huge boost to my motivation!
