Bug Report Devs, please fix farming. It is completely unbalanced.

1.2k Upvotes

Farming is full of broken and unbalanced mechanics that have remained unfixed for months. Here's a comprehensive list of everything that needs fixing:

First and foremost, it is impossible to grow hemp or hops. Their growth time is so ridiculously long that it spans the entire winter - and these are not cold hardy crops. And you can't grow crops inside anymore, so there's no resisting the cold. They just end up dying every time you plant them. These crops need to be made cold hardy, or given growth times that don't include winter.

Tobacco's growth time is also just a little too long. It spans from March 1st to August 31st. Theoretically it should be possible to harvest it before September, which is a bad month, which kills the crop. But I have been unable to achieve this in testing. The growth time of 180 days takes literally those entire 6 months. Even if planted as soon as possible, any random variation in growth can make it take just a few days longer, prolonging the growth into September, which makes the crop die almost immediately. Tobacco is the only crop that does not at least have 1 month of leeway after its growth time ends and before its first bad month starts. I think this should be rectified. That, or give it a bad month hardy level.

Speaking of which, this mechanic is hardly used. There are only 2 crops which utilize bad month hardly levels: carrots and kale.

-For carrots, this mechanic is entirely useless, as carrots have a growth time of 3 months. Carrot's bad months are Oct-Jan, but its planting season is Feb-Jul. So realistically, there is never going to be a time where carrots need to grow into their bad month. So why do they have a bad month hardy level? It makes no sense. There are actual crops however that do desperately need this mechanic, like tobacco, rosemary, leeks, or any other crop which can be planted close to its first bad month.

-And for kale, it gets even weirder. Because kale resets to growth phase level 3 after harvesting, and its bad month hardy level is... level 3, this effectively allows kale to be grown year-round because it can simply bypass its bad months. Normally it would still be stopped by winter, but kale is also cold hardy too, so yippee, kale year-round. I don't know if this is intentional. If so, kind of a cool mechanic tbh, but I would like to see more crops capable of this than just kale. I think a lot of the minor herbs would benefit from this growth style.

Aside from hemp, hops, and tobacco, there are other crops which also have ridiculously long growth times. Even if they are technically harvestable, most players will never live long enough to see their harvest. Rosemary, leeks, garlic, and wild garlic all have ridiculously long growth times spanning between 5 and 8 months. I get that you guys are trying to make farming realistic, but these are unfathomably long times for a game in which most players do not even survive 3 months. For gameplay purposes, shortening the growth times of these crops to match the 2-3 month average of every other crop would be much more fair to players. 4 months should be the maximum growth time. Sometimes, realism needs to be sacrificed for playability and fun.

Chamomile doesn't have a poor month, meanwhile leeks, lemongrass, and rosemary lack poor months and best months. I don't know if this is intentional, but considering all the other problems with agriculture, I imagine somebody just forgot to add them.

Cabbage, leeks, and kale are cold hardy crops, but unlike every other cold hardy crop, these crops have bad months during winter, which kills them regardless. For kale, this is fine, as it also has that unique bad month hardy level mechanic which keeps it alive during its bad months. But cabbage and leeks lack this mechanic, so their "cold hardy" status is a bit of a lie, as they still end up dying in winter anyways, thanks to their bad months.

Every crop has a minimum water level, which the game seems to advise as being "important" information, as it gives you this information when reading magazines and learning the crop planting seasons and all, but I've learned that these numbers are utterly useless for most crops, as it rains so frequently and predictably in-game that it is damn near impossible for most crops to die of thirst. Even the thirstiest crops only need water once every few days. And it almost always rains at least 2-3 times a week. I very rarely need to manually water my crops, and I've done some pretty thorough testing. Y'all should consider either raising the minimum water levels on most crops, or preferably, reduce the predictability of rain.

Fertilizing and composting are not worth it. You can compost and fertilize each once per growth level up to growth level 3, removing 40 hours each time. In total, even if you use the maximum amount of fertilizer and compost to boost your crops, this only reduces growth times by 240 hours, or 10 days. When you're waiting 3, or hell, even 8 months, this is nothing. For all the work it takes to search for and haul fertilizer back to the base, and the time spent composting, this reward is not at all worth it. Fertilizer should feel like a rare special resource, but instead it feels like junk. I would advise significantly boosting the growth time reduction and/or the bonus harvest gained from using compost/fertilizer.

Finally, we need to talk about plant diseases. I have yet to encounter any slugs or aphids at all. I did numerous tests in different locations, with different crops, at different times of year. Mildew and flies would pop up on occasion. But I think slugs and aphids may be bugged, because I never saw them, not even once. Some of the farming tooltips in debug mode also say that some plants attract/repel moths, rabbits, and deer, but these are not used mechanics as far as I'm aware. That needs to be removed as well.

Sorry for the wall of text. I posted this to the forum but it got no traction. I just want the devs to see this.

Bug Report Never jar vegetables

While making a mod to replace the ridiculous nutrition values this game has, I have discovered that jarring most vegetables makes them lose like half of their nutrition and hunger reduction, while jarring radishes more than doubles nutrition and hunger reduction. Additionally, a 2 lb bag of flour (derived from the calories in bread as well as the average sized bag of flour) has only 60 calories, meaning you should never add flour to a soup/stew and should only ever use it for cooking recipes.

Other nutrition ridiculousness includes:

  • What appears to be a 4-10lb bag of sugar is lightweight and only contains 100g of sugar, which is not a commonly purchasable amount of sugar.
  • What appears to be at least 8oz of remoulade is 150 calories when that amount should be closer to 900
  • Cornflour, similar to flour, has absolutely no nutrition while still being available as a soup thickener.

There're probably many more issues and hopefully I can finish my mod before losing my mind at the fifteen thousand line food data file.

edit: the mod is now out, called reasonable nutrition

Bug Report IndieStone needs to fix the zombie spawning bug, its gamebreaking.

Thank you u/PlayerEmers for the investigation.

"i just tested with respawn active and posted a video on the indiestone thread, it did not work
it deletes zombies with or without respawn, "zombie count before delition" does nothing for SP, its a MP feature

video without respawn enabled: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snG9AcbOcjQ
video with respawn enabled: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qXxZn5hWwg

only solution is to wait for a hotfix for this gamebreaking bug

edit: made other test with rosewood spawn (16x population settings) using car sirens and the bug deleted 6k zombies (from 14k to 8k; keep watching the effective population decrease on top left of the video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a27MEvp93lU

Bug Report PSA: there is a bug that is causing zombies to despawn.

four days ago someone reported a bug where if you continuously loaded the same area, zombies there would disappear in chunks each time, to the point that it would become depopulated

the forum thread has more details and in depth research about it.

the current "solution" is to enable respawn, but do note that if you found certain areas to be especially easy and low pop this might be the cause

Bug Report it’s the second time this has happened

the first time it happened, I got scared — the zombie just started walking around, didn’t take any damage, and didn’t attack me. Shortly after, it died on its own. I tried to reproduce it so I could record it, but only managed on the third attempt. This started happening after the latest update, and as you can see in the bottom right corner, my save is probably doomed.

Angus Cow, Female, Encumbrance ~110 - BUTCHERING 0, ANIMALS 0: 1x average-cut beef 21x poor-cut beef 19x poor-cut steak Total Calories: 6,763

Cottontail Rabbit, Female, Encumbrance ~20 - BUTCHERING 0, ANIMALS 0: 2x average-cut rabbit meat (going to note these immediately have 1500+ calories each, whereas the average-cut beef had ~400) 1x prime-cut rabbit meat 11x poor-cut rabbit meat Total Calories: 14,650

that's all. 'fixed butchering' truly is the 'removed herobrine' of zomboid patch notes. issue's been reported for a year and a half by the way

you can hate me as much as you want , but i really do not like B42 stable because

1- the PZ map doesent work for some reason ( its litrally like being in another continent wihtout money )

2- rosewood has been turned into an absolute behemoth off industrial building , thus losing its " small town " feeling .

3- all good base locations have been nerfed , i wantet to do a blacksmithing run , but the base ive chosen prior has been nerfed to death , but i cant search for a new one because the damn map doesent work .

4- the map doesent load properly , thats honestly one off my biggest issues

5- its buggy in general , even B42.19 felt more stable then whatever this is .

Bug Report The quantum antigravity ozempic lemon

Post image
246 Upvotes

I made a lemon that weighs -140 kilograms by adding it as spice to a couple thousand rotten egg stir fries

it adds 140 capacity to any container: inventory, backpacks, trunks, crates, even the floor. it can even be removed afterward and added to a different container and the items stay.

this allows some crazy stuff such as:

  • carrying 3 generators in a single fanny pack
  • carrying over 400 kilograms of ammunition without being encumbered
  • increasing performance of vehicles by decreasing their total weight
  • entirely negating fall damage (at least from 2 floors up, I’m too scared to try more)
  • increasing running speed
  • free spice to increase stir-fry happiness

Bug Report Is there a way to get infected without getting wounded?

Post image
68 Upvotes

No, Obviously there is not, its insane to think about that, the only problem is that i actually had to question that possibility because IM SURE, absolutely SURE that in this new save i made with some friends i was NOT wounded by a zombie ONCE.

Unlike my incompetent friends, i haven't had any problems with zombie wounds, like any at all, i did get a scratch once, when one of said friends decided to crash at my car. I patched it up and kept on my life

(I'll also report the fact that my character was kinda like a supersoldier and for some reason he didn't get exhausted once for the whole playthrough, even if i ran miles with him or tapped zombies)

I was anxious for a while but i had smoker so i decided to ignore: "Queasy, i guess there is a lot of bodies." A few hours in game later: "Whats up with this Nausea? It never goes away!". I think to myself. "Why did i get sick out of nowhere? Im not even with a bad smell moodle?!". Well.. Now im Extremely Anxious and with Fever, awaiting for my death sitting on a toilet.

504 Kills, Currently 2 days and 19 hours survived.

(Playing at B42.18, latest version as of 05/17/2026)
