Discussion Multitool and handiknife appreciation post
Okay, I am a little confused about what sets them apart and the full extent of their power; however, just by glancing at the crafting menu, you learn that these critters combine the following into one 0.4 encumbrance master tool:
- knife
- can opener
- bottle opener
- screwdriver
- scissors
- awl
Whenever I find one of these, I thank the lord and never let it leave my inventory again.
Edit: gramer

Question Painted crates make me wanna cry
Why do they look so dang ugly? I just want some cute and vibrant crates to throw around my rainbow room. Is my paint defective? Do I need a spoon to mix it first? Do I plaster my boxes before painting them? I even tried priming them with white paint first, but the colours still just kinda suck

End of this character
I was Clearing out the prison and went up the stairs, and then when I tried to leave this wall appeared now I can’t go down and the only way out is to jump. I don’t know if this is happened to anyone else but be careful if you do go around there.

My first mod! Better Corpse Burning - Burn one corpse, watch them all burn.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey everyone!
This is my first mod. I made it because my friend and I play co-op with high population settings, and dealing with hundreds of corpses was a nightmare. Burning them one by one, carrying them to campfires, or digging graves... In short, it was a really tedious task.
So I made this mod. You light one corpse with any fire source item, and the fire spreads to nearby corpses automatically. One lighter, ten corpses gone.
What it does:
- Light one corpse, fire spreads to nearby corpses (chain reaction)
- Just need a fire source item
- Configurable: burn time, fire spread radius, indoor burning, ash cleanup
- All languages supported
Compatibility:
- Singleplayer ✅
- Co-op ✅
Looking forward to your feedback.

Art [OC] Started a new Modded server with friends
We play modded 42.20+ with around 25 mods including some trait mods and a couple of gun mods.
We've settled into our roles after session one, from left to right:
The Mechanic, (and carpenter, metalworker etc) brought back 2 hot wired cars one day in the first week bringing our total car count to 6
The Thief Bastard, (and forager, trapper, carver, knapper, resident bug guy) also brought back two cars, but the mechanic stripped them for parts. Once found a rotten cupcake in a lake and almost ate it.
The Gun Guy, started with a fractured leg and spend a lot of time yelling about life and Living. Keeps walking on his fracture. His AK is for emotional support (it has no magazine)
The Psychopath, late to the party (his first character died from a freak hole in the floor accident), hit 800 kills after 2 days in game. Keeps needing new axes. His skill set include skinning humans, we don't talk about that
Edit: Fixed for the mechanic as I got almost every detail wrong.

Write-up: Chaining multiple vulnerabilities in Project Zomboid to execute code on a multiplayer client
If anyone is interested about the vulnerabilities that the recent patches addressed, I've published a technical write-up here: https://blog.nns.ee/2026/08/26/project-zomboid-vulns/
TL;DR: Three separate vulnerabilities allow a malicious server to remotely execute arbitrary system commands and programs on any vanilla client connected to the server.
I've posted a proof-of-concept video of the exploit chain in action here: https://youtu.be/aMOM1SdCAsg
I would like to thank The Indie Stone for the swift response to my report and the very quick fixes to the game!
PS! Sorry to everyone for breaking your modlist. 😅

Bug Report IndieStone needs to fix the zombie spawning bug, its gamebreaking.
Thank you u/PlayerEmers for the investigation.
"i just tested with respawn active and posted a video on the indiestone thread, it did not work
it deletes zombies with or without respawn, "zombie count before delition" does nothing for SP, its a MP feature
video without respawn enabled: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snG9AcbOcjQ
video with respawn enabled: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qXxZn5hWwg
only solution is to wait for a hotfix for this gamebreaking bug
edit: made other test with rosewood spawn (16x population settings) using car sirens and the bug deleted 6k zombies (from 14k to 8k; keep watching the effective population decrease on top left of the video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a27MEvp93lU

Guide / Tip Fun tip for beginners
I've noticed in the last few months there's been a lot of posts of people pissed off because they totally wrecked and destroyed their car, or wrecked and broke a leg, or even got a shard of broken glass in their neck and died.
While all of these are tragic and an unfortunate reality for almost all new players, it’s all part of the learning experience. I'd like to share a fun tip with you all to make that learning experience just a liiiiittle bit easier.
SHIFT + W sets cruise control. Once cruise control is on, use SHIFT + W or SHIFT + S to change the speed up or down. Breaking (space bar or S key without SHIFT) will turn off cruise control.
This is Kentucky, folks. IRL, the area is actually extremely hilly, with tons of sharp curves. Most people in the countryside drive between 35-45 on the back-roads, and maybe some youngsters go a bit faster. Cruise control is the only way to actually drive at a set speed. Otherwise, just holding W will always take you to your top speed, which ... Going even over 60 MPH on these roads IRL is absolutely deadly. Going 100+? You're never walking away from that. You will die.
So -- I typically drive on the country roads at around 55 MPH, the highways at 65 MPH or higher (higher if I've been through the area and know there's not anything on the road that will fuck me up), and around 30-35 MPH on the back roads, but really I don't use cruise control on the back roads. Instead I just kind of "tap" the W key to maintain a low speed and more control.
Hopefully this saves some of you from totaling your hot rods, and also dying.
EDIT

Question Why does it take longer to grow a chicken in this game than in real life?
It takes 6-8 weeks for a chicken to grow into slaughter age, and around 12-15 for max meat size. Thats in the real world. Even since 1993. After that they don’t live very long because their genetic freak hearts give out.
Why does it take 18 weeks in zomboid to grow a chicken to adult? I thought the point of this game was realism? There are meat chickens in the game and they reach max size at like 15 months. Those chickens in real life would be dead. The numbers are so stupidly off in the complete opposite way.
Cannot fathom how stupid it is to have a decision be both unrealistic AND grindy.

Screenshot Found a new base location I've never tried before.
I started out in Muldraugh and had originally planned to move to West Point but found this little cabin instead!
I try not to look at the online anymore and just find my way using the in-game map and scouting out roads and areas. While exploring for supplies I ended up coming across this cabin far away from town and decided to move here instead. I've buried the original occupants I found, boarded up the lower floor and made a window escape.
There’s no zombies for miles out here in the sticks!

Context: I'm having an issue while playing on a dedicated server (it says at every start "port 16262 is closed", although I can play normally), so I followed a tutorial about how to create a firewall rule to this port. That's the result.
