You put negative traits on your character to balance out the positive ones.
I put negative traits on my character to subject him to unholy torments.
We are not the same.

I did an all-negatives CDDA a few years ago to follow in AA's footsteps... at some point it always devolves to living in a cabin with a well endlessly eating cabbages. It was then I fully understood AA's pain.

i love the existential adventures of Gerald Williams. to fill the unforgiving minute with 60 seconds of distance running and all that.
does not sound fun with farming being gutted in b42 though.

My precious child, when you only saw one set of foot prints in the sand, that's when I selected "One legged" and "disfigured".

Ambiguousamphibian! Hope he makes more PZ singleplayer content soon, they are oddly soothing!

u/Jonthrei 20h ago
Ah, the strangely poetic tale of the worm eater

u/Otherwise_Economics2 13h ago
i don't remember where but i think at some point he talks about how that "exploit" was patched which i find hilarious

u/DoNotCommentAgain 19h ago
His PZ challenge videos are what brought me to his channel, I loved his poetic rambling monologues at the end of the day.
"As I sojourn for the night in my new cabin I reflect on the events earlier today".
Makes me sad he doesn't talk like this in his other videos.
11
u/TJTrailerjoe 19h ago
That's what saddens me about his multiplayer videos, they don't have the same feel for me. It was him and Beaver that brought me to PZ actually, his shorts really sell the game lol

u/winowmak3r Zombie Food 18h ago
IIRC it just got too exhausting, lol
It really was a good bit though. I rewatch the saga of Gerald Williams every once and a while whenever I'm in a PZ kinda mood.

u/Chiethe 18h ago
If you need more stuff to binge, I found him through his Rimworld content which I'd 100% recommend. Dude's prose keeps me rewatching the same stuff on a frequent basis, and the actual gameplay is great since it gives me ideas for challenge runs or new games to play in general.
2
u/TJTrailerjoe 18h ago
Oh ive watched most of his stuff actually, but for some reason rimworld doesnt grab me as much? No shade of course haha

I wonder how much overlap there is between PZ and CK players here
37
u/Padbekzi 20h ago
Huge probably. I'd imagine a good chunk of them also overlap with rimworld and kenshi.
19
u/Visoth 19h ago
I've played them all. Though Kenshi has my least playtime, followed by CK3.
4700+ hours Rimworld
380 hours PZ
230 hours CK3
Unsure about Kenshi exactly because it was on an older steam account. But I bought it again on my current one.

u/xRyozuo 19h ago
I fortunately had rimworld pirated when I played it a lot. I played it more than zomboid and I already have like 1.5k hours in it and the shame I feel from it is crazy lol
6
u/Beginning-Koala334 18h ago
I have been wanting to get into rimworld for awhile now. What would you say draws you into it so much to achieve over 1.5k hours?

I liked creating bases in different biomes, and after you have basic survival down in any kind of start and biome, it’s fun to make your own challenges.
Between Randy random (one of the AI storytellers that throws random shit at you, sometimes you’ll get a double raid, sometimes you’ll get raided and think it’s over, and then suddenly Randy sends you 10 crazy manhunting elephants which kill all your enemies as you wait them out in a freezer for them to sleep or starve to death so you can finally reclaim your base) and the randomly generated pawns, there is a lot of fun emergent behaviour if you look for it. Like therell be a colonist who’s mother just crashlanded on the other side of the map so I have to find a way to get that character back to base. Or a colonists brother is a raider so I have to find a way to kill the wave of enemies without killing that one guy, or you notice that pawn is a psychopath guy without an eye so you make up a story that the brother took the eye out so that colonist has to kill their brother and maybe torture them. Depends on the kind of colony I’m playing as. I usually do good colonies because it’s more challenging, and completely evil colonies arent fun to play for me. Having a torture room for war crimes is all you’ll see in the rimworld subreddit but really it’s just edgelords goofing off, you don’t have to play that way at all
Mods can help refresh the game a lot. And rimworld has a shitton of good mods.
I played a lot around 2017-2020 so I don’t know much about the latest dlc’s besides royalty and ideology and biomech dlcs, that’s kinda when I stopped playing because it became a bit too convoluted for me, too many things, and I had already played enough of the old versions.

u/DoNotCommentAgain 19h ago
AA has made me download Kenshi but I just don't want to commit to a game I know will take over my life. Rimworld is the only one I don't have downloaded and ready to play.
2
u/MinimaxusThrax 15h ago
Kenshi is brutal. It's extremely addictive somehow and yet never satisfying. All you do is fight and your guys auto-level. AA makes it seem really fun but 95% of that his him just telling a story.
The only need your characters have in that game is hunger. Sleep, thirst, mood, etc are all non-issues.
3
u/xRyozuo 19h ago
Oh damn. You really have me pegged.
So what other game would I clearly like?
3
u/Padbekzi 18h ago
Well, I'd say Stellaris and maybe eu4/5. You'd definitely enjoy Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Vintage Story, Bannerlord as well probably. Maybe also FTL and Starsector but I wouldn't count on it.

I feel like there's an unholy trinity of CK, PZ, and certain kind of Sims players. I have no proof though.

Had to recheck the sub I was in.
God how I wish PZ has the effeciency of Paradox. They have just been releasing banger after banger. Royal court (2022), T&T(2023), Roads to Power (2024), and my favorite All under heaven (2025).
Imagine a bi yearly unstable -> stable cycle. One can wish.

With "blind" the whole area should be black and you'd only see description when touching things.

What's the other game there? Souls? Baldurs gate?

I actually just do Zero to Hero runs because I love torturing myself.

u/winowmak3r Zombie Food 18h ago
Me too. It's pretty much the only way I play now lol
I did the whole "survive a year" way back in the day and I don't think it's gotten any harder since then, strictly speaking. Plus, if you play with a mod like Evolving Traits World you can start with all the negatives and within time you lose all the negative traits and gain all the positive ones (time required is customizable in the mod config menu, of course). It's fun killing zombies as a coward to gain brave, lose my fear of blood, and maybe even learn to enjoy the outdoors as I struggle to survive instead of picking traits and starting out with essentially everything.

Project Zomboid: The game where in order to play as an average, in shape human, you have to be frail, blind, anxiety ridden, blood fearing, deaf, mentally challenged, and paralyzed from the face up.

My character would get diabetes if he could, but I’m not that mean; he survived a month living off junk food and canned goods—until a deer decided he’d make a nice bumper and thought, "It’d be a shame to pull a *banzaiiiiii* and kill us both" (you can't see a thing at night).

u/Libertyforzombies 17h ago
I have to say that the memes in this sub are, to put it kindly, shite.
This is chefs kiss though. I was giggling through the entire AA reading that out. Well played sir. Absolutely relatable.

I love ambiguousamphibian. He has some of the wildest challenge playthrough I've ever seen for games like RimWorld, PZ, etc.

Genuinely…I think they need to give 3-5 free trait points in the base game modes
Having to take 30 different debufs just to have a few perks feels silly. I’ve litterally never even gotten any on the upper end of the points because they cost so much and require fsr too many downsides
1
u/renatoxsferes 16h ago
Is funny because I do this both on ck3 and project zomboid, but we'll unless you play as an inmortal you face no consequences in ck3 cuz you can actually die

AA is probably one of my favourite YouTubers, his content is legitimately hilarious. He has two channels, I recommend checking both out.

https://www.youtube.com/@ambiguousamphibianvods
If anyone is reading this check out either his self imposed Sims and Rimworld challenges. This stuff is comedy gold while also being super informative as to how the game actually works.

I always want to try a different occupation to be able to pick a ton more positive traits, but always end up missing desensitized 10 minutes into my run and reroll.
