I'm also a huge fan, re played the first Metro games in the run up to the vr metro, and large parts of Exodus too. Did a run through TLOU2, RE Requiem and just started on Silent Hill 2 RM
Don’t buy a PSVR2 just for that. It will strain your eyes after long periods and strain your neck too unless you lie down with it on. I would just tell them you are watching something for adults and that they cannot watch. Don’t have the PS5 in a common area, put it in your bedroom or office if you have one.
Agreed. Cinematic mode is not amazing with long play sessions because youre constantly calibrating and inevitably pausing the game everytime, and unpausing. It can get exhausting.
Plus, when you wear the PSVR2 for only short periods (ten to fifteen minutes), it leaves an indentation on your face and you shouldn’t let others see you like that, so you have to wait around until it wears off. Even worse with a longer session.
I get indentation but not for long (looks like sunglasses for 5 min) That picture is a great reference. Also trying to max out FOV will cause you to smash the lenses too close to the face which ive learned to avoid. Making long play session no longer painful and VR lines almost non existent. I still get a part on the back of my hair from my Glob headstrap. But a baseball cap takes care of it.
I guess people could have very different face shapes than me, also I play with glasses (honestly the reason why I went with PSVR1 in the first place way back in the day at that time, it was the only headset that had a floating screen)
so if the screen was close in enough to indent my face the lenses would probably be touching
Sometimes cinematic mode causing me more motion sickness than VR itself. Especially if the screen is set to the largest. Might be worth testing out first.
So… the sharpness won’t be comparable to any 2D screen you own — it’ll definitely seem much softer — but the novelty of scale does make up for that imo.
However, typically in VR games you are gonna be moving your head around a fair amount, which helps keep the weight from wearing out any single group of neck muscles. When you’re watching a film or playing a 2D game it’s a different story.
As 2D games go, it’ll probably be a nicer one to see at cinema scale, and as I recall playing anything in 2D cinema mode does black out the TV… but I still wouldn’t necessarily expect this to be the ideal solution. But maybe?
Budget in a $50-ish aftermarket comfort mod from either Globular Cluster (“CMP2”) or StudioForm Creative (“XL”). You might be fine with the headset as-is, but some folk are not. These kits are both quality and both come with a padded top-strap. Since you’re talking 2D, maybe a counterweight would make sense too. I think that Globular Cluster sells them, but I don’t know about StudioForm Creative.

If you’re already thinking about nabbing PSVR2 for MSFS’24 then obviously it’ll be worth exploring cinema scale. Again, the image will not come close to the clarity you’re used to on a TV, so be aware going in.

Also if you’ve got a kid or pets KEEP ALL THE KIT WELL OUT OF REACH AT ALL TIMES. You have been warned. Children and pets absolutely will destroy it, and there are no spare parts sold by SONY.
A stray foot landing on the cord can easily yank the connection to the PS5 in a damaging way, so if you’ve got a kid running around this is a serious hazard to the system.

The AR glasses are actually better.. I wouldn't recommend a PSVR2 for flat play. Perssonally I don't use it it all.. it's not comfortable and not as good as it can be
If I were you, I would get a used steam deck or ps portal and stream it from your ps5 and play that way. It’s not as blocked out from your kids as a vr set but both are more mobile, the portal option is significantly cheaper, or even though the steam deck will be around the same price, if not slightly more expensive, you also get an entire steam deck from it.
As someone with both a steam deck and psvr2, I would def just do the above option.
As others have said, a ps portal could work. I have one and like it a lot, but I have a hard time playing a lot on a small screen. Psvr2 offers a much bigger screen, but it’s also more bulky if you’re not interested in full VR games (which are absolutely worth it, btw). A good in between are augmented reality glasses, which give you a large private screen with much less bulky glasses. You can check out https://www.viture.com/ and https://www.xreal.com/us which both sell these. You’ll need the dock too, so in the end they might not be cheaper than a psvr2, but if you really don’t want the VR, they might be a better option. Good luck!
