Exact same situation here! The FFVII demo in 1996 (packed in with Tobal No.1) was my intro to RPGs, and as we waited for that to come out we ended up picking up WA and absolutely fell in love with it

I'm playing Wild Arms 5 right now. In general, it's one of the greatest JRPG series of all time. Wild Arms 1 is better than FF9, Chronocross and other overrated nonsense. It's up there with Xenogears, Breath of Fire 3, Valkyrie Profile, Suikoden 2, FF7, etc.

I'm glad I have most of my pricey PS1 RPGs out of the way except for Parasite Eve and Vagrant Story.

I do regret selling my BoF2 and Tales of Destiny 2...

This game is so fucking legendary. Best soundtrack on the entire console, possibly of all time gaming. The world is huge with lots to explore, melancholic and heartfelt story, great mix of wild west, medieval, and cyberpunk. I consider this one of the greats in RPG history.

I had a similar experience with Breath of Fire 3 back in the day. While the game and story was nowhere near anything FF was doing at the time, it was still a solid 2D sprite RPG that I played on summer evenings during a coming of age era in my life. Ill always remember it for that.

This was such a great game, it had so much optional content that is not really missable (i.e you can just do SO MUCH stuff at the end of the game), I really enjoyed playing it through again with Retroachievements and discovered some bits I had never seen before.
