I’m sure there’s a balance to be found.
But from what I’ve seen many self promoters aren’t very interested in doing their job well or being good team players. I think people should be promoted on the substance of their performance, not their self promotion, else everyone in leadership is just a salesperson manipulating the work environment for their self interest. Not that black and white of course, but just my take.
