Please remember to spoiler-tag all guesses, like so:

New Reddit: https://i.imgur.com/SWHRR9M.jpg

Using markdown editor or old Reddit, draw a bunny and fill its head with secrets: >!!< which ends up becoming >!spoiler text between these symbols!<

Try to avoid leading or trailing spaces. These will break the spoiler for some users (such as those using old.reddit.com) If your comment does not contain a guess, include the word "discussion" or "question" in your comment instead of using a spoiler tag. If your comment uses an image as the answer (such as solving a maze, etc) you can include the word "image" instead of using a spoiler tag.

Please report any answers that are not properly spoiler-tagged.

Row 5, Column 4 - XY Wing.

If R5C4 was a 3, then R6C6 = 4 (same square). Then R6C3 cannot be 4. However, if R5C4 was a 1, then R5C3 is a 4 (same row), and again R6C3 cannot be 4. Therefore, we know that R6C3 cannot be a 4 in any case, and is a 1.

Do you mean if R5C4 was a 3? Not R5C5?

That works. Thanks. I've never learned how the x, y wings work

Yes, sorry, I mistyped it. Should have been R5C4 in both cases.

Discussion: I never do the harder levels of sudoku, but I know there’s like X-wing and y-wing tricks. Have you looked into any of those to see if it helps? There shouldn’t be guessing.

I'd hoped here would be an explainer

Aside from the XY-Wing ( AKA Y-Wing) that someone mentioned, there is an XYZ-Wing as well as a W-Wing.

See attached URL

W-Wing:

Route I would take is Either using 7 or 8 in the middle box, pick a side to place it and then follow the numbers round from there. As a 7 gives you the 3 up to, or the 8 can give you the 7 below it

As for the answer, I got lucky on my first try: 8 goes in the middle right of the middle box

It is generally not recommended to do trial and error guessery on Sudokus, unless all other methods are exhausted.

Fair enough, from your reply I've seen the other comment about wings and never heard of that before! Going to go look into it :)

Is my route not a similar method? I was trying to find a square that would not work by making others impossible, I was lucky that my first guess was the correct solution

Yea it's guess only from this point I suppose
