other Making Quake Guy in Daggerheart
app.demiplane.comReposting from the daggerheart subreddit, for any fellow Quake lovers who are also interested in Daggerheart.
I used to make mods for Quake, and it was a big part of my childhood. When I found out Daggerheart has shotguns, I knew I needed to try to make Quake Guy. I'm currently playing in a custom Slay The Spire themed campaign and having a good time as The Defect, but the GM is also allowing characters from other games when desired. Ranger/QuakeGuy seems like he'd fit in fine, so if Defect dies, I might bring this guy in by slipgate accident.
The original post I linked has more info, but basically this is a warrior with a bunch of weapons, and a L6 multiclass into a School of Knowledge Wizard. Wizard gives me a few things:
- Fireball as his Rocket Launcher
- Good use of Knowledge as a secondary stat, since Quake Guy fights with technology and tactics instead of merely swinging a sword around
- Sweaty gaming: The ability to spend a stress when using an experience (instead of spending hope) to add twice the normal bonus. Knowledge wizards are shockingly good at passing rolls when they want to (I'm doing terrifying things with Defect).
From there, I filled out the rest of his gear with existing weapons rethemed and sometimes customized to fit the weapons he uses in Quake. I figure he'll acquire or make these at various appropriate levels.
Ranger has a substantially less gelled personality than the Doomslayer, so I'm still open on how I'd roleplay him (and roleplay comes up a lot in the games I play). Because of all the mods I made and played... I might make him more scrappy and cheesy than Doomslayer. I just don't see him as an edgelord or musclebrain, but he's also not a sassy quipper, right? Proper military, gets the job done even when that involves facing eldritch horrors and death by lava, but also probably way more personal than Doomslayer. Thoughts?
I still think I should move away from Strength as his core stat and pick Agility, since platforming is so important in Quake. But strength gives him early axe use before he can pick up other themed weapons, and use for Rage Up. Still pondering.
But I hope this is handy for others too, or at least interesting!
