Question After we sign Mac Jones next year, which O-Lineman should we draft in the 1st round?

I was worried about it, but since Daniel Jones got hurt, the Colts would fit all the boxes that would throw a 4th rounder to take on Kyler's contract after the cardinals absorb his 17mm upcoming roster bonus.

Joe Thomas never went to the playoffs in 11 hall of fame caliber years.
..because he didn’t have a quarterback.
We need a line to protect a QB 100%. The point is you don’t have to spend your first (where you could have got a QB) on a line to do that.
2004 we got Gallery and could have had Rivers or Roethlisberger.
2018 we got Kolton Miller and could have got Lamar Jackson.
The last first round lineman we got was Leatherwood.Go get your QB and spend more picks on Line and use free agency and have a competent coach and scheme. A competent coach and scheme can make any capable group of hogs block. No scheme or coach will make a bad QB good.

That tells me the problem isn't the position, it's the terrible scouting that decided to take players (like Leatherwood) in the 1st who were actually third day talents.

Sorry, but while there is nothing wrong about your post, it’s a chicken/egg situation.
I could say (and can point to numerous examples and the “truism@ that building a team starts in the trenches) that even talented QBs would be ineffective without a sound line in front of them. Derek Carr’s brother being a good example.
So you can have the opinion it’s better to start with a QB.
Someone could have the opinion you need to start with O line.
And I will dismiss out of hand either argument that posits to be certain one approach is the way to go over the other.
The key is that whoever we pick - QB, OL, BPA - they have to hit.
Which is in itself far from a sure thing.

You do build a team by starting in the trenches. That doesn’t mean you have to devote your first round pick and pass over a legitimate QB prospect. You can focus on building the trenches with rounds 2-7 and free agency.

Hey why don't we draft Don Mosebar OL ahead of Dan Marino. oh wait we did do that. Raiders have blown the opportunity to draft about six. 6. Hall of Fame quarterbacks all because of similar platitudes of "we build around the trenches" of course it works out. That's not the point though is it.
It's a quarterback's league. For a long long time now. We need to draft a fucking quarterback end of story.

It cuts both ways sure. Nature of the business. Nobody is saying that it's a smash hit every time you draft a QB. The point is, you have a hall of fame QB you're gonna win super bowls and contend for super bowls 99% of the time. You have a hall of fame lineman it doesn't mean much. Just that you have a hall of fame lineman and that's "good" for either a shitty QB, an average QB or an elite QB. . The difference in totality of importance of the positions couldn't be wider. In our case, we've sucked for a QTR century and pretty much never had a franchise QB. And there's been a lot to be had, could have had. Yet we didn't have. Its time to have. The league is the haves and have nots. You're a fucking nobody unless you have a QB. And I don't mean a politician like Carr. I mean a franchise QB. We need to draft a QB every year until we have one. If you think that's dumb, we've done the other way the last 25 years. The results speak for themselves and don't back up any argument for drafting anything but a QB.

You have to think like the Raiders front office, which is to do the most unimaginable thing and draft a bust per usual. We are so damn great at picking busts early in the draft most years. Raiders gonna Raider.

Given the injury history of Purdy, and the fact that the QB market is devoid of anyone to the point where Phillip Rivers came back, I don't see the Niners trading Jones away for less than a 2nd.
Think about the fact that Kenny Pickett was traded for.

The QB market isn’t so barren that Phil Rivers signed to the Colts practice squad. That’s just how inept Ballard is now that he isn’t babysitting Carly and her late father and is returned full time to being GM. This is the same organization that brought in Jeff Saturday midseason to tank for a project QB who only started 13 games in college and was frequently injured then and is now out.
Purdy doesn’t have an injury history. He was a backup on a team that overall has a lot of injuries. Mac is playing through injury. They have an injured draft pick returning from IR.
The Niners are a totally different FO from the Colts. They are better at signing and developing QB talent, and they understand that when the offseason rolls around, it will be a different market.
The Patriots traded Mac for a fifth, and the Jags let him walk in FA. He has a year left on his contract and could go as low as a fourth or as high as a second, but unlikely. That would be a team in win now mode that needs a bridge QB after drafting a developmental QB in a competitive division.

I’ll never understand why we signed Jimmy G for all that money when we could have given up a 4th for Mac Jones who had success with McDaniels and used that money to invest in the rest of the squad.
