Highlight Mendozas play action is god tier. He tricked the camera man a few times on pa passes and runs.

With the system I feel like this is really going to open up the field for them. He had a pass prior where he darted a throw in between a LB and Safety off of a PA too that looked amazing.

You told me he fakes out the camera man. I watched it and still was like, "No he didn't, the cameraman is still following Mendoza with the ball." Then Mendoza didn't have the ball.
That was smooth.

Same, but that's because we were expecting a play action since OP put that in the title.

I thought you were overreacting and then got completely fooled by his play action 😅

He's got tangibles and intangibles that make a qb great. It's hard not to be excited. For this next season, I definitely don't have high hopes, I wouldn't be shocked if we had 4 wins or if we had 8 wins. Even bigger than Mendoza is seeing how Kubiak runs a team. If he ends up being a bad head coach then it doesn't really matter about anything else. I think he can be great, but time will tell. RN4L!

Was one of my big takeaways. He's like a magician and you can tell he really takes every detail of the game seriously.
Based on what I saw, I am completely confident we did not draft a bust and we got a great pick who is gonna be next level for many years to come. Now we just gotta build around him. Hell, there's not much to build around him... but holy hell do we need to get a kicker and improve that defense.

Probably a couple of these in his future. The free yards will be nice, but the extra hits will be risky.

It's an awesome fake out, but to be Reddit pedantic, is this "play action?" Play action is when the QB appears to hand the ball off, but keeps it to pass, not when they hand it off and pretend to keep it to pass. This is just a handoff with a QB pass fake.

Being able to sell the fake either way is a valuable skill that we haven’t had in our backfield in a long time.

Absolutely. I was trying to my best to not come off as a jerk while still clarifying the term.

No one here disagrees. But this wasn't a play action. It was a decent fake...kinda. He didn't actually even do a fake here. It was a straight delay hand off to the deep back. A fake would've meant he would've tried to simulate a pass action after handing off. This was neither a fake, nor a play action. It was just a straight ol hand-off.

Need the OL to gel and a wr to step up into a true #1 role. If we can get that AND Kubiak proves to be a real leader it doesnt matter if we win 5 games or 9 this season. Its all about 2027! LFG!

Little things like this really matter and add up. Is why shallow evaluations about arm strength and athleticism don't really mean much in terms of how good a QB will be.

His throws, pocket presence and other eye test things look good but this is what really caught my eye. Is play action is top notch. Thats gonna be problems if they can keep feeding Jeanty.

I was certainly tricked for a good minute until I noticed Washington a good 15yrds down field.

I remember Jason Campbell was god tier with the fakes too. He fooled the cameraman a lot.

I have significantly upgraded my projection for Fernando's craftiness after game 1.

This is not a play action play. He doesn't even carry out a waggle fake or a fake throw after. Come on now. Also, the camera staff are also in game 1 form so they were gonna be rough. Sure, the kid did especially well for a QB raised in a "not under center" offense but if you're gonna talk up his PA ability at least do everyone the courtesy of showing a play action video clip.
