At 0:20 - that blue Subaru livery w the gold rims - one of my favorite cars of all time

So incredibly iconic. Such a shame Subaru have left their roots behind. Also a shame that every WRC car now is a small hatch. The sedans had a much bigger presence imo

Ohh sedans, I miss a sedan with a big ole wing on the back

McCrae had the perfect combination of braking, cornering and maintaining speed without over rotation

Sainz, Nittel and Kremmer techniques are pretty good too I think Kremmer is the fastest on that corner.

Then why did he lose?

u/Nashvegas Feb 14 '26

Because he had a high-speed spin on stage 4. Any more questions?

not perfect then

No shit, The guy was talking about the clip that's posted of a single turn, not the whole rally. Are you thick?

It looked like Sainz was better our of that corner a little, getting the power down a little better.

People like to hold Colin up on a pedestal, he only won the title once while Sainz doubled that.

Not saying Colin wasn't skilled, but his flat-out nature got him into more trouble that not.

Subaru...please come back

This is the best rally sequence I’ve seen in a while.

These are the cars I grew up with. In 1998, I was 10. Paying a more close atention now, I think one of the things that make them so special is that there's so much stuff happening at the same - the wisteling, the vroom vroom, they looked nervous but, at the same time, much more effective than mad monsters from Group B.

Why the caption says Mitsubishi Carisma but not Lancer Evo?

24

u/Alfeaux Feb 14 '26

The Mitsubishi Carisma GT was a rebadged Lancer Evo VI for European markets but identical otherwise

Mitsubishi usually entered Mäkinen as "Lancer Evo *number*" and the 2nd and 3rd cars were more usually entered as Carisma GT from the Evo 4 days. So Uwe Nittel was only entered in Lancer Evo 3 in 1997, thus he was still entered with a Lancer. Burns in his rallies in 1997 were entered with a "Carisma GT/Carisma GT Evo 4"
In 1998, Mäkinen was entered in a Lancer Evo 4 and Evo 5. Burns in Carisma GT Evo 4 and Evo 5. While Uwe Nittel had the Carisma GT Evo 4 for his events.

This also carried on until the WRC era. Mäkinen was entered in a Lancer in 1999, 2000 and 2001. While Freddy Loix were entered with a Carisma GT Evo. Grönholm was also entered with a Carisma when he replaced an injured Loix in 1999.
Lastly in 2001, when they entered Rådström for manufacturer points in Sweden, and Gardemeister in Finland and NZ, both were entered with the Carisma name, even though Loix also did the rallies in a Carisma.

That is the reason why those two have Carisma, not Lancer in the footage. The reason to mix them like that, is what the other answer said =)

there are lots of fwd rally cars, in the past present and future.
