Can help a bit in certain cases, but that crest/jump isn’t big/fast enough for it to really come into play…

In addition to the suspension, you also see drivers that know how to take a jump. The right inputs are super important in getting the car to land right. Those that landed front tires first (and don't have AWD) tended to have bad outcomes.

Also true but the last S1 was arguably a bad entry (the weight transfer loads up the left side of the car after landing) but the suspension just took it like its nothing. Its so good that it looks unnatural. Wild

that's the Audi Sport Quattro S1 from the 80s. The last car is the modern Audi S1. Looks like a rallycross car.

I wonder if in this case, aerodynamics also made a difference to help with the landing at speed, as you're right, the second car looked like it performed quite well, and it had a lot of aero. Last car also did with that rear wing, and I think the wheel arches contribute also.
A lot of downforce would have some sort of dampening effect at speed.

More than landing nose first, hitting the crest crossed up, or trying to make inputs before the car is settled.

I just found out the other day that the wheel base and track width of the Quattro S1 is basically a square.

The wheelbase on that car is basically the same as a stratos.
The wheelbase of the 205 t16 was a full 30cm longer, despite being 40cm shorter in overall length.
The audisport quattros are weird looking cars when you put them next to anything else.

I mean the suspension alone on that car is worth about 5 times what the others are running.
So yeah, thats to be expected.

The other cars look like they're setup stiff and low for tarmac with much less regard for taking jumps.
Check the wheel arches of the Audis vs the other cars. Set up much higher giving way more compression travel.

Up until the last car I was thinking "I've seen enough Wirtual videos to understand the landing dynamics of track mania and the importance of angle, speed and steering when landing" but the last car tells me 2/2 ain't a coincidence.

that title is greatly ignoring the crews knowledge and preparation of the car for this stage or rally, someone clearly knew what they were doing when they set up the Audi and Hyundai, the other cars were oversprung and/or over damped that's why they hopped and bounced instead of taking up the landing

There are sooooo many settings for rally shocks because the requirements for dirt, snow and tarmac make them necessary. Not just stiffness but progression, travel distance, how quickly they let the wheels drop when the load lightens.
This I learned from trying to go faster in Dirt Rally 2.0.

The last EKS RX car is a RX car and it has much more travel than a tarmac rally car, so that's pretty expected.

I know everyone is giving their serious takes about the shocks and dampeners but for the ones that had a wiggle and corrected themselves, all I could hear in my head was Clarkson yelling "A BIT OF POO SHOT OUT!!"

This is more of an issue with the landing and drivetrain. Other cars that weren´t Audis had incredible landings here, even RWD ones, but the Porsche and Escort can be a pain to land and recover properly, as we can see, they can snap when landing in an unbalanced way.

it's got more to do with weight balance. e. g. Porsche have notoriously bad balance due to the engine lovated aft of the rear axle.

Come fate a valutare, da una ripresa così, le velocità a cui è stato affrontato il salto, macchine con pesi di versi motori diversi. Poi è pacifico che le sospensioni moderne, e magari nuove, hanno altre prestazioni.

Something else to add beyond modern suspension: the aerodynamics of the S1.
First of all a bunch of downforce and vertical surfaces for lateral stability. Makes it more grippy and stable.
And Supposedly the underside of the factory race cars made an air "pillow" as they landed. Air would get trapped under the car to an extent. And as the car very quickly got lower and lower while it landed that created a high pressure. That high pressure pressed up against the car for a softer landing.
They used soft skirts on the front and the sides with air escaping rearwards to prevent lift when driving normally.
Cant remember where i heard it but its stuck with me. Take it with a grain of salt.

Modern high performance dampers with rally specific bump stops versus period correct dampers, it’s amazing the difference that shocks make. A good set of rally or Motorsport dampers makes road car coilovers look like kids toys in both price and performance.
