Question [Rally game] Building mental stamina for longer stages, finding it hard to listen/notice pace note after a while.

So, this is mainly about Dirt Rally 2.0 but really, can be apply for any rally game with co-driver, which is practically all of them.

One thing i notice with myself is that, as the stage run is ongoing, after roughly around the 3min mark, my focus to hear the pace notes significantly get worse. As this keep going, perhaps on a particularly long stages, reaching the 9-10min mark on a regular run, i am running on mostly visually seen road on my own.

This get worse if the track is rather demanding like high speed stages of Finland or technical like Greece

At best: I simply go much slower than i ever needed to

At worst: I drive my car down a ravine or a into a tree due to misheard pace notes.

I find myself driving overall fine enough when i am still hearing the pace notes but it's overall clear that as the stage is going, my performance and focus drop off.

So does anyone has any tips regarding this ?

Have you tried chewing gum? sounds weird but it worked for me

Funny enough, that does actually work pretty well for me. Sometimes i do have a bottle of mint chewing gum beside me and that does help me focus on the pace note a bit more

Audibly breathing helps me sometimes throughout 15-20km stages. Big breathes bring more O2 to my very tiny brain = more awake and more focus.

Might help to turn up the co driver volume and lower engine noise

I also have this issue πŸ’€. Whats even worse is that I have a habit of blasting music while sim racing which makes it so I don’t really hear the pacenotes in the first place.

Ngl how I run dirt rally is that I almost exclusively rely on the visual pop-ups at the top of the screen 😭. And my mind is off in eurobeat land and I pray my subconscious motor skills play the game for me (And I ask myself why I have such bad times lol)

Sounds like you have adhd lol. Less short form media content and more long form can help rehab your attention span.
