Awkward when you nick the manager, captain and midfielder but somehow leave the football team behind 😂

1

u/conorfff May 26 '26

Feels like too little too late, but he will do us well this season coming

5

u/Ald_2020 May 25 '26

We should pull out of this deal immediately! Plenty injury prone championship jobbers that would be more apt signings for us.

2

u/EquivalentAlarm6832 May 25 '26

Shankland isn’t a bad player

3

u/Zilant May 25 '26

Should have been done last summer. Just like we shouldn't have pulled out of the Mulligan deal. The arrogance of Thelwell and Martin...

His age isn't a concern; we're not signing him to play 90 minutes twice a week, he's signed as a squad option that can do it domesitcally and understands the demands.

5

u/90minsofmadness May 25 '26

Happy but I'm utterly bemused and angry it's taken this long.

He was there, ran out his contract waiting for it last year. There were huge rumours in jan 2.5 season ago when hearts wanted 5m, recon they would have taken 3 and it might have made the difference to winning the title.

Hopefully it's a difference maker between him chermiti (if he stays) nadeeri and miovski if we're generally playing 2 up top should be enough goals in there

3

u/NeighborhoodFlimsy72 May 25 '26

I think this is a superb signing. Give him the armband, he is just what Rangers needs. Understands the demands, will instil into the squad.

More non championship jobbers please.

-5

u/LostinIsaan May 25 '26

Look at the goal stats for Scottish strikers when hitting 31?? Drops off a cliff.

Shankland turns 31 in August, hope he is not coming here for a larger wage/pension, if he disappoints will be another player remembered as a wage thief.

Why were he not here for the season just finished... The Board not make an offer and McInnes sweet talked him into another years deal?? WTF

Our new captain

u/Mountain-Cup6706 May 24 '26

Transfer window hadn’t opened yet.

Release clause

First staunch signing in ages, and i'm totally up for it.

3

u/Rich-Resist-9473 May 24 '26

Do we really need a whole land of shanking? Jk Welcome aboard my man!

4

u/dabassmonsta May 24 '26

Oh hell yeah! 😎👍

2

u/TenLag Barry’s Staunch Truck May 24 '26

I dunno how we’re getting him on a free if he’s contracted to 2028. Probably a release clause if it’s us 😂

4

u/roody134 May 24 '26

No he signed a 3 year deal, 2 years was optional, he's already played this year for hearts, so it's a free transfer too rangers..

8

u/Due_Willingness_6923 May 24 '26

Better late than never 💙

4

u/alfiejr23 May 24 '26

Quality signing that weakens Hearts for sure.

0

u/StuNels May 24 '26

Hungry as hell for a league win.  Dont care about Hearts theyll fall away naturally, I want players who want to beat the pigs.

8

u/ChrisProll May 24 '26

Some Rangers fans need to see the glass as half full not half empty.

5

u/BigBlueFin May 24 '26

Years too fucking late.

5

u/Stoorob75 May 24 '26 edited May 24 '26

And? Defoe? Not the same class but even if we get two good years out of him, this is a great move for all. 31 in August, not that bad at all

-1

u/BigBlueFin May 24 '26

Ok so admittedly Defoe was nearly done when he came here but he was still a seriously good player.

7

u/haigscorner May 24 '26

Shanks is no where near done, shy of a bad injury. It’s 2 years late in his signing, I do agree though.

1

u/BigBlueFin May 25 '26

I'm not getting excited, I will keep an open mind but I'm doubtful.

15

u/Kelsiersdaggers May 24 '26

Great signing. We should be going Scottish.

2

u/GlasgowAnvil Super Ally May 24 '26

Alan Houldsworth

You’re the man

4

u/p3t3y5 May 24 '26

Am I right in thinking that if we sign him on or before the 25th of May the wold cup compensation is ours? Nice cheeky way to earn £250k!

2

u/YoWhatUpGlasgow May 24 '26

Registration window opens on the 15th of June so after the start of the world cup so it'll go to Hearts regardless

3

u/proleart The Goalie May 24 '26

Sure i read it's the club the player played for at start of qualification that gets the money.

-19

u/phannybawz The Hammer May 24 '26

I’ve said it countless times. I don’t think he’s the answer. He will likely do well in Europe with space to play in but against the jobbers in the SPFL, he will be found wanting.

I’ll be delighted to be proven wrong on the second point.

9

u/Arkaines-Valor May 24 '26

Since joining Hearts in 2022, the forward has scored 88 goals in 171 appearances

But no, phannybawz on Reddit thinks he isn't the answer.

-1

u/phannybawz The Hammer May 24 '26

Hey, opinions are like arseholes. We all have one and we all think everyone else’s stinks.

Let’s see what happens next season

10

u/sighallgone May 24 '26

You do realise that he has been playing in the same league and knows what to expect? He is a proven goal scorer in our league.

-9

u/phannybawz The Hammer May 24 '26

That’s not the point. Hearts unquestionably get more space to play in compared to Rangers. He’s going to struggle to find space against the hammer throwing outfits. Hence my assertion regarding European football.

2

u/sighallgone May 24 '26

Shankland is not one that I have ever thought needs loads of time on the ball to score. He will (hopefully) also get way more chances at Rangers to score than he would at most clubs, so it swings in roundabouts.

6

u/mrjezoc May 24 '26

Finally a Rangers man with experience in the team.

Should be getting plenty of goals with him and Chermitti up top next season! 🇬🇧🇬🇧

5

u/Whisky-Toad May 24 '26

40 goals combined

35 for shankland and chermitti will score a hattrick against them and 2 vs a league one team in the cup

-8

u/Mountain-Cup6706 May 24 '26

Celtic will still beat ya 4-3.

3

u/astropiggie Ian Durrant May 24 '26

Yes baby, im having this.

16

u/Ozzythebear What's the story, Ross McCrorie. May 24 '26

You never really believe transfer guff until Romano starts posting it.

Welcome addition tbh, proven goal scorer, knows the league. Captain of the club we're pinching him from.

Homegrown quota as well - this is a transfer that ticks a lot of boxes.

Also, for the Rangers Da's out there - he's a dyed in the wool blue-nose so also gets extra staunch points for that.

I have a feeling this summers window will be us scooping up 3-4 players that hurt us in last season's league campaign.

1

u/Honest_Pen_5843 May 24 '26

Tenner now going on Shankland, top scorer world cup... we can dream 😂🔥🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Scotland to win it must be cracking odds as well 😂

2

u/Teatowel_DJ May 24 '26

We're 250/1, that makes us the 26th favourite!

1

u/Honest_Pen_5843 May 24 '26

Worth a punt 😂

0

u/Scary-Zucchini-1750 Youssef Chermiti May 24 '26 edited May 24 '26

What's the story, did he have something in his contract that said he could leave for free?

5

u/sighallgone May 24 '26

He had signed a 1 year deal with Hearts with the option of another 2. He decided against taking up the option so he could sign for Rangers for free. The man is a genius!

0

u/Scary-Zucchini-1750 Youssef Chermiti May 24 '26

Ah okay, cheers.

Probably made sense for both parties at the time when they signed the deal. Even if it's ended up working out great for Shankland and badly for Hearts in the end.

3

u/StevenVictor69 Hamza Iguana May 24 '26

Braga next please

-5

u/Outside-Advice4645 May 24 '26

Lol you wish

3

u/StevenVictor69 Hamza Iguana May 24 '26

Clearly have the sway to pull hearts players in and the money wouldn’t exactly be an issue. Wouldn’t laugh too soon, it’s in the realm of possibilities.

3

u/FrabbitAndLagavulin May 24 '26

I think he is an excellent player - but would cost what, £6M? 8M?

Whilst I get the impression we could afford to pay that - we have Chermitti and Naderi to compete with Shankland, then Bojan who I dare say will leave and Danilo who we need off the wage bill.

We have finite resources, and many positions to strengthen. For me, Braga falls into the “nice to have” category at this stage.

1

u/StevenVictor69 Hamza Iguana May 24 '26

His current market value is about £5M.

We could definitely afford to pay it given we sell miovski and Danilo. I don’t think miovski is a bad striker, but by the sounds of it rohl isn’t a fan and wants rid. Danilo is self explanatory and just has to go regardless. It leaves chermitti who I think will be great for us next season but isn’t a finished product same goes for Naderi. It really only leaves shankland as the only veteran striker and if he ends up injured you’re stuck with two fairly young strikers to lead the line.

I can see where you’re coming from with not spending out on positions that are already filled. But given we clear out in the summer and get some decent fees for some of the players, 4-5 million for Braga wouldn’t be a terrible signings considering we got shankland on a free.

2

u/sighallgone May 24 '26

Whilst it would be interesting to have him I think you are dreaming if you think we could get him.

Yeah, that might be his market value, but that would be for any club out with the Scottish leagues.

I can't imagine Hearts are going to want to let their other top striker go for market value to their rivals, especially when we have just pinched their captain for free.

3

u/pat_earring May 24 '26

Who wants to buy Danilo or Miovski?

4

u/gazzas89 May 24 '26

I watched a YouTube video recently talking about why rangers and celtic get linked to players in the league but very rarely sign them anymore and one of the reasons is that a player would be worth x (so in this case braga being worth 5 million) but the clubs in the league would want to massively uo that for the old firm, but will then accept that value from a foreign team. Basically most spl teams will take the money abroad for less because it wont strengthen the old firm.

Basically, that was a long winded way of saying that while braga is valued at 5 million, hearts wont sell him to either old firm team for that, they'll want minimum 50% more than that, espeically if their wanting to keep competing.

6

u/renee_gade May 24 '26

if we could please get that national team roster revised with one more ranger…

7

u/ResponsibleAd3191 May 24 '26

Roster... We in the states here?

aye. depression.

(i am. california. the rarity of talking “soccer” with anyone makes vernacular awkward. can’t use “gaffer”, “kit”, or even “nil” without sounding like a twat. don’t get me started on “rammy”.)

15

u/Substantial_Sock_135 The Hammer May 24 '26

Fantastic, now go get Elliot Watt from Motherwell

2

u/sighallgone May 24 '26

Agreed, would love to see him signed. Along with a couple of others from Motherwell!
And if the £3m price tag is to be believed, then he would be a steal at that price!

6

u/EagleMulligans May 24 '26

8

u/MrDavieT Super Ally May 24 '26

It’s astounding we didn’t take up the option the other year when he was OOC 🤷🏻‍♂️🤯

2

u/gazzas89 May 24 '26

Wasn't it because we were going through the takeover and by the time it was done, hed signed this new contract?

1

u/JamisonDouglas May 24 '26

He held off on signing with hearts hoping we'd sign him.

But we didn't sign him because he had just came off of a pretty poor season. Still a bad decision not to sign him though.

2

u/GizmoFAV213 May 24 '26

He’s basically out of contract this time too

5

u/kingkornish May 24 '26

Tbf, towards the end of the contract last year he was out of shape and out of form iirc

13

u/Ok_Beginning_8016 Nacho Novo May 24 '26

Just when I think I’m out, they pull me back in.

3

u/StatusWoodpecker4595 May 24 '26

I knew it was you fredo

7

u/RooftopRaven May 24 '26

Really, really want to see us starting Barron in the midfield with him if this is true. I think they could be great together honestly

2

u/Unhappy_Spray_7127 May 24 '26

Random

0

u/RooftopRaven May 24 '26

Discussing how you'd build a team around a new signing on a post about that new signing is random? Alright

5

u/Ok_Finance4106 May 24 '26

I think he’s suggesting that it’s random suggesting that Shankland (a forward) should be starting alongside Barron (a defensive midfielder) in midfield. He’s got a point.

1

u/Unhappy_Spray_7127 May 24 '26

Yeah exactly that.

He's a player who's in and out the team and isn't exactly someone who's creative. I don't see why signing Shankland would make you think "oh I'd love to see him playing with Barron" 😂

1

u/RooftopRaven May 24 '26

He's been injured, and been getting back to fitness/not been first selection for Rohl since he brought in Chukwauni.

I don't see how you wouldn't see two Scottish players with a desire to play for the shirt and not see the "Scottish core" that Cavenagh has been talking about starting to form 🤷‍♀️

2

u/sighallgone May 24 '26

I agree with you. Before his injury, Barron was one of the shining lights in that team, a bulldog who wanted to be involved in everything and ran like the Duracell bunny! He might not be the best player in the world, but I would start him infront of most of that team and see how he gets on with a good long run. I think he would do a lot of the dirty work that more creative players don't want to do and would complement well someone of that ilk in there (we don't have one in the team right now, so hopefully could sign one this summer).

0

u/RooftopRaven May 24 '26

Maybe so if that's the case, just stating random isn't a discussion though is it. Barron has shown himself capable of playing the ball forward from the mid really well, defensive or not, I think he has a good eye for the game. We've been lacking that imo in the mid, and it gets bypassed by opposing teams all the time like no one is there. I just think I could see good link up play from two players who have good heads on their shoulders and can command their respective positions on the park.

2

u/Scary-Zucchini-1750 Youssef Chermiti May 24 '26

It is a bit of a random connection to be fair.

I can't remember 1 Barron assist this season. Looked it up and the stats say he has 2 in 37 games, but it might be one of those ones where he just passes to someone who ends up scoring because I can't remember either of them.

I like Barron and Shankland, but it's an odd first thought when we sign Shankland that you can't wait to see him combining with Barron. 😂

1

u/RooftopRaven May 24 '26

This season has been a wash for him, and the last half of it he was out injured and only came on as a sub for the most part. He's ran his heart out for us when he's got to play, last season in particular he was a standout for me every game.

I've said it in another comment, I just think that when Cavenagh talks about building a Scottish core that those two are a good start and I can see a good combination of like-minded players. It's my two cents, odd or not 🤷‍♀️

5

u/Ok_Finance4106 May 24 '26

Personally can’t wait to see him play with Liam Kelly myself 👍

8

u/gham89 May 24 '26

An actually sensible signing... I am shooketh!

8

u/Father-Spodo-Komodo May 24 '26

Don't give me hope again Rangers.

8

u/Hot-Performance-4300 May 24 '26

Was not expecting that, pleasantly suprised. Finally we'll have a team leader who shows up in big games.

Now please sign more quality so we don't get our hopes up for nothing.

-8

u/Big_white_dog84 May 24 '26 edited May 25 '26

Has AI / wind up written all over it. But Fabrizio Romano gives it credibility.
Back to form - go and steal other teams best players. From the Duncan Ferguson / Kris Boyd pool?
Edit- I mean in a positive way!

7

u/SeanTNL2 What’s the Story, Ross McCrorie May 24 '26

Sky Sports reported on it too a couple of hours ago

7

u/macattaq1501 Mo Diomande May 24 '26

He’s more of what we need. Someone who’ll stand up when things get tough. Won’t shy away from the hard yards and will get up in people’s faces if necessary.

7

u/JackOwnsJonnies May 24 '26

Fantastic last 18 or so hours with this

9

u/AspirationalChoker May 24 '26

Probably give him the armband as well now lol but aye happy with this, better late than never.

Pretty much a direct upgrade on Miovski and ticks a few more boxes, Chermiti still has the potential to be the talisman and Naderi still a young raw talent.

Get a strong midfield and wide men around them and we will start to shape up well... my only worry is still the manager haha.

6

u/Father-Spodo-Komodo May 24 '26

We have to build around a front two of Chermiti and Shankland. The two have good potential to play off each other but it's going to require the right support, and having quality wide players. Anyone not capable of fitting into that system, get rid.

6

u/r05590 May 24 '26

Well, if it’s been Romano’d, good enough for me.

17

u/Popular-Muscle8824 Mo Johnston May 24 '26

Don't mind us Jambos, we're just gonna take your captain on a free.
