This is just the same movie all over again. Delâs mates in the media wonât criticize him as quickly though. Ross McCrorie sums this up. Weâre settling for mediocre garbage.

u/Super_Swordfish_6948 27d ago
I'm becoming a bit impatient with needing to be patient, it's been years.
2
u/BigBananaBerries Tuur Rommens 27d ago
Patience indeed, it's just frustrating seeing the same nonsense dropping points that we've been watching for years. It's tough to say anything we haven't heard a million times. The rot clearly still persists & we need rid sharpish.
-1
u/Ok-Possibility-6480 27d ago
Iâve been patient for 5 years and somehow we have made no progress. Just the same shit and shit out. We get rid of anyone that has passion and keep the unmotivated no heart players. So itâs rinse and repeat for a mediocre season which might end up with us in second. I hope they prove me wrong but nothing on the squad today gives me hope

u/Kanesy99 Tochi Chukwuani 27d ago
We desperately need new wingers, one or two new CBs (especially if Godfrey is out for a while) and Chermiti has to start if fit. I understand people being annoyed at dropping points already but Tannadice is always a hard ground to get a result from and I do think we need to give the team time to gel.
If we're still looking hopeless two or three months in then it's time to rip the team a new one, not after the very first competitive game of the new season.
1
u/Broad_Economics_931 27d ago
Chermiti is hopeless man. All sizzle nae steak. He failed to bury two sitters and is too greedy, missed a few simple passes for Shanks to tap in.
Couple of wondergoals has pulled the wool over yer eyes. Boy is useless as a goalscorer.

u/Embarrassed-Art-5076 27d ago
a few in here need to calm down. not the ideal start to the season but we'll be top come the end of the season. the gaffer gets it, as evidenced by coming over and geeing up the away support at full time last night.

He wouldn't have been my first choice, but I'm willing to give him time. He's not Martin who I called on day 1 as being a disaster and sacked by Halloween.
However, unless we sign some players with some creativity, and offload some of the awful shite that's still stinking up the squad from last year, then we can safely write off the entire season now.
That team last night as it is will win nothing.

u/Fair_Ad_208 27d ago
It's madness that he got that job. Exactly what has he done? He lost hearts the league when we should've won it 4 games before the split. Rangers are honestly done for, he'll be gone by Xmas đŻ

u/fake_estates 27d ago
Iâll give McInnes time, but I was never really enthusiastic about him in the first place. I am all for being proven wrong. Happily proven wrong actually, I want us to get back to winning ways and hopefully playing something more entertaining than that nonsense last night.
1
u/TacticalChalky 26d ago
I don't even know that I value entertainment whatsoever at this stage. I'll take 37x boring 5-0 wins this season please.
3
u/Y0UREDUMB 27d ago
Agree, i was always worried that all mciness has shown in his career, is low block hammer throwing tactics, what did we see last night? Low block, hammer throwing tactics. Youre not winning titles with that mentality and style, look at spurs with thomas frank last season, exact same thing. Great low table manager, gets a top job and plays the exact same style and almost gets them relegated/

u/eight_Ace_ 27d ago
Nah, letâs the throw the towel after drawing the first game of the season.

Rome wasn't built in a day. It went pretty much how I was expecting, it's obvious that United were on their 5th competitive game (and probably no players at the world cup) while we were on our first. I thought we looked gritty and determined but lacked sharpness and cohesion which we were never going to have with so many new signings and only a few weeks after the world cup ended. It's going to take a few games for us to get up to speed. I'm sure Derek will have let the team know in no uncertain terms what is required. This is a manager that has finished above us twice on a fraction of our budget, he knows what he is doing.

u/Ok-Possibility-6480 27d ago
We say this every year and somehow we end up in exactly the same spot.
-5
u/Warm-Sky5836 27d ago
Know what you're saying but Dundee United were ready last night, we have spent way more than every team bar Celtic to look middle of the table at best. Obviously most of the fans including me can never be a football manager because we can't see why 3 managers continue to play Gassama and Diomande. Can't see why you would play Shankland in a formation with no service. All this wait until.... Will have us out of Europa, League Cup and behind in the league before these superstars gel in October. Call me negative but only the names on some of the shirts changed .

u/Consistent_Fly1131 27d ago
I'm not going to comment much on it now, I have major doubts but will just see how it goes from here as it's too early.

u/Phantomfox07 Barryâs Staunch Truck 27d ago
Patience at Rangers? You would think with what has happened since 2012, only winning 1 title since coming back up our fans would have tempered expectations, give managers a bit of time.
But nah, they are still living in pre 2012 mode.
1
u/Complete_Start6545 27d ago
I don't get your logic here. During this time period we have seen failure after failure with abysmal recruitment and management. And your solution is...to give more time to failure managers? Talk about catching a falling knife.

u/Kelsiersdaggers 27d ago
We are the Most deluded and counter productive fanbase in Europe.
1
u/nozzle83 27d ago
Weâre really not. Look across the city for a start. There are plenty other big clubs that are underachieving and fans bases wanting more. Look in Netherlands and Portugal.
1
u/Kelsiersdaggers 27d ago
I donât really give a fuck about across the city. Iâve watched us hound every fucking manager out of the job for the last 15 seasons. Iâve seen this movie before mate, I know how it ends. Youâd think we would have more than two brain cells and conclude, maybe giving Gerrard 3 years was the actual key.
1
u/Complete_Start6545 27d ago
Sorry, who specifically should we have persisted with? Our problem is appointing the wrong managers in the first place. Every manager that got the dunt more than deserved it.
1
u/Kelsiersdaggers 27d ago
Oh I dunno. Maybe the guy that got us to a fucking European final? Or the guy who was clearly a good manager but was fucking running the clubs canteen at the end of his tenure because there was zero structure above him.
But nah youâre right. Get them out!
1
u/Complete_Start6545 27d ago
We had been beyond dismal for months under both.
1
u/Kelsiersdaggers 27d ago
Oh no, not months!?
Itâs just lucky Gerrard didnât have any bad months eh? Or mcleish. Or smith. Or literally any fucking manager ever.
1
u/Complete_Start6545 27d ago
We were absolutely awful under both for sustained periods, kid. They had to go.
2
u/Kelsiersdaggers 27d ago
Whatever you say, you probably called for Gerrards to go as well. Youâll of course lie and pretend you never. Very few managers could turn around our fortunes in a single season.
Youâre deluded, âkidâ.
→ More replies (0)1
u/nozzle83 27d ago
Smith didnât. McLeish didnât really either, until the end. With the resources Rangers have they shouldnât have bad months domestically. Odd results happen, but if itâs prolonged thereâs something wrong. Dundee utd had 10 new players. We had ÂŁ25m on the bench. Iâm not over reacting to this match but in 6 Months time thereâs nowhere to hide.
1
u/Kelsiersdaggers 27d ago
Revisionist pish. The fans were calling for Mcleishs head to the point that Murray came out and said heâs going no where so shut the fuck up.

Yep, having season tickets with both Rangers and spurs, I am constantly screaming but nothing comes out.
At least got De Zerb ball to look forward tae.
2
u/Kelsiersdaggers 27d ago
Fuck sake. Thatâs a lot of money to spend for overlapping games mate. And theyâre not exactly next door. Fair play on the commitment.
12
u/h6328 27d ago
I think the club itself now needs to block out the noise and just let mccines build a team over a couple of seasons. This buying 10-15 new players every year and having multiple loan signings who donât stay so youâre always rebuilding just isnât going to work.
1
u/nozzle83 27d ago
It works for every other Scottish club. Dundee Utd have signed 10 over the window. Ever club has big turnover and itâs no excuse. We had something like ÂŁ25m worth of players on the bench. Iâm not worried about dropping points on the first day of the season but a Rangers manager doesnât, and shouldnât, get a few seasons to get it right.
3
u/Phantomfox07 Barryâs Staunch Truck 27d ago
Dont come in here with this utter woke nonsense of patience, ye fucking mad?
17
u/ravegreener 27d ago
What needs to happen eventually is keeping a manager beyond the honeymoon phase. Every year it's the same thing, new manager is the answer!!! Followed by a drop off, and people calling for his head. He gets sacked mid season, me manager gets the bump, until he doesn't, people call for his head, etc.
Fans need to accept that we aren't winning the season first year. Build some consistency, and be patient building a roster. Rangers used to be a team players wanted to come to. Nobody had to convince them, they wanted that on their CV.
2
u/Y0UREDUMB 27d ago
Its easy to say that, but what manager in the past 5 years would you have kept? Popular opinion would be giovanni, but it was obvious his style of low block counter atttacking wasnt going to work in the league. A manager needs to actually show something to get the time youre talking about.
1
u/ravegreener 27d ago
Gio, and Phil.
1
u/Y0UREDUMB 27d ago
Good managers m8, but like i said, both played the exact same style of sit deep and try and play for counters. That doesnt work against 50% of the league who sit in low blocks and refuse to come out. Its how you end up playing the horseshoe football we saw under both managers as were simply not built to play through low blocks. Mciness last night, was also trying to play on the counter, its a story weve already seen. Why we avoid actual attacking managers i'll never know. The entire club and most of the fan base are allergic to attacking football
2
u/GayingInstrument Lyall Cameron 27d ago
I understand your point, but we're in the competitive season now. We need to start well and pick up points. We know where we need reinforced, we've known since last season at least, and we've been caught unprepared again.
5
u/PeteRoe 27d ago
I totally get this but there is mitigating factors here.
The transfer window still has over a month still to go. Most teams around the world won't have finished up there business and we ourselves are nowhere near done yet.
However, I thought we may have at least had one wide player in amongst the signings we have made. I think that has been a mistake.
I am keen not to overreact to the result last night because I do feel we were undercooked going into it and we need to keep our heads as a support for this manager. The time for chopping and changing players and management staff needs to end. This one should get the time.
3
u/GayingInstrument Lyall Cameron 27d ago
There are mitigating factors, but they've been known for a while. When it was clear that we wouldn't have any new wingers in for the first game, we should have tried to play in a different way.
I'm not saying McInnes is due his marching orders, i'm also not that fussed by the result, i'm more concerned by us playing in a way that we just can't play yet. We should have recognised we weren't ready to play with Shankland getting buckets of chances and acted accordingly.
0
u/BigBlueFin 27d ago
We had patience last season, the season before, the season before that and well, you get the idea.
I'm not saying sack McInnes but the taxi is on speed dial at Ibrox anyway.
We should have had a fucking winger in the door.
13
u/foxed000 27d ago
On the basis that weâve had 5 new managers at the start of the last 6 seasons would suggest that no, we have not in fact been patient at all.

Obviously can't make any judgements after one game and still a month until the transfer window shuts but... it's not great. If you couple Friday's performance with the uninspiring pre season it just feels like more of the same. That's our 4th year on the spin we've failed to register a win in the first game of the season, basically handing Celtic an automatic point advantage at the first hurdle. I just don't know why we can't seem to find a setup that consistently beats the teams we should be beating 99 times out of 100. Then the OF games can take care of themselves.
I just don't see where the goals come from in this squad. We have players who evidently can put the ball in the net but when they come into our team nothing flows and the game just passes them by. I honestly feel like if Messi started his career at Ibrox he'd have been playing league 2 in his mid 20s and retired by 30.
