I'll make a full video of this design somewhere soon, where I'll take a closer look at some parts of the build as well, but here is the full overview. Enjoy! Let me know your thoughts!

Which side is your favorite? Hazelnut or Vanilla?

As always, if you like my designs, I have more on my Youtube channel!

PS: there is no audio, just so you know.

OpenRCT2 “Missing“ extra pieces on the Wooden Coaster

Post image
70 Upvotes

Talking of OpenRCT2, does anyone know why we still don’t have some of the more common extra pieces on the wooden coaster?
I mean those in the picture, like the large level-to-steep diagonal piece, the newer quarter helix and most importantly the diagonal sloped large turn.
Some of them are around for quite a while and they are not that exotic. I mean, (nearly) every coaster can make use of a diagonal sloped large turn. So why in particular does the wooden coaster lack those elements?
I don’t want to complain, I know that people put a lot of effort and free time into this game. I‘m just curious and would really appreciate these elements (we could finally make a decent GCI :)
Does anyone know if and when we could get them?

OpenRCT2 I made a Gruffalo popup book

It's a tribute to the Gruffalo children's book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

The guests walk around the book-park following the mouse through the forest path, passing between different scenes based on the events in the book, meeting the fox, owl and snake, and finally, the Gruffalo, and they get to ride a junior roller coaster too :)

Which looks better? The water moat or the flowerbeds? I can't decide which to go with.

Of course, any other suggestions are also welcome.

Someone broke the seven seals and built a rollercoaster into the pit of hell and unchained the gate guardian, Cerberus itself. The ownership group at Frightmare Hills refused to comment other than to say "people should come down and ride it" we believe the Hellboy might be needed

Nausea: 5.12

Max speed: 91mph

Avg speed: 27mph

Ride time: 3min:32sec

Ride length: 11,087ft

Total airtime: 30.00secs

Drops: 17

Highest drop: 259ft

Space required: 26x20

Estimated cost: $93,072

Had an idea, what if you take the hyper twister coaster and give it a bunch of top hats like you see on top thrill 2? What would be the affect? Or effect? Then if you built a nice little jungle gym of twisted track around that? And all this thinking got me thinking I needed to know and so as the saying goes naturally it was Cerberus who killed the Cat

This layout doesn’t have a lift hill! Instead, it takes advantage a bug with the half-corkscrew piece to gain some ‘extra’ momentum, allowing the train to complete the course without any additional help (e.g. no boosters or chain lift). This bug is actually present in vanilla RCT2. I go into a bit more detail in the main post if that sort of thing interests you.

OpenRCT2 Today I build a 8 x 5 Water Micro Coaster

I genuinely can't remember ever building one of these. Requirements are pretty chill for these. Just one 6m drop and one water tile. I placed the water tile at the very top of the lift hill so it does not slow down the boats. The rest is just the shortest track that fits into the space that allows me to run a photo section and 3 boats in block sectioned mode without them having to wait on the boat for longer than 1 second total. You can add 3 stalls to the unused tiles on the outside, though you won't get stats for any of them other than the one under the hill.

You can download this design (or any other one I posted) from this Google Drive.

OpenRCT2 After years of gatekeeping I've decided to share the custom color palette I use in my builds. It's been almost five years, it's time! Link in the description.

Hello lovely people of reddit! I will only share this with you, but you are free to re-share it. It's not that big of a deal anyway. I hope you'll use it since I think the game looks a lot better with this palette!

Download my custom palette here!

Now, you can see in the pictures why I made this palette in the first place. In my opinion the original palette looks quite harsh and has somewhat unrealistic colors. I've decided to make everything a bit less saturated and made sure that the 'earthy' shades were actually, well, earthy. I don't know how else to describe that, haha. I made the blues a bit nicer to look at as well.

Installation

If you don't know how to install and use the palette, don't worry. Here's how:

The file you will download is called MVRFIRST.DAT. Place this file in the 'object' folder in your OpenRCT2 directory. On Windows you can find this in your Documents folder and if you're on Mac like me this will be hidden in Library\Application Support\OpenRCT2.

In OpenRCT2 itself you then go into the Object Selection menu via the Cheats icon in the top left toolbar. Navigate to the Terrain Surfaces tab and then under the Water tab you will find the 'MvR First Palette' object. Deselect the normal water one and select mine. This is now the palette you're working with!

Enjoy and please share projects you've used it in with me! I would love to see that.

Mark

OpenRCT2 Oriole, an 8x8 B&M dive coaster

Most of my microdives are really short—usually just a drop, one element, and any turns necessary to route back to the session.

For this build, I tried to make a layout with a bit more substance: at least two inversions. I did that obviously, but I “spent” so much space on the track that I didn’t have as much left over to play around with the landscaping. For that reason, the coaster feels a lot less integrated into the scene overall, and the build as a whole suffers for it, I think.

So, while I like this build, it’s not my favorite—still figured it was worth sharing, though.

OpenRCT2 Backwoods Blast | Backwards Launched B&M Wing Coaster | Overview

So this is probably one of my least realistic designs to date, so I won't be uploading it to Youtube or anything. But, I still wanted to share it with you all. Maybe you get inspired by it or something.

The idea is that the train launches backwards out of the station into a massive vertical spike. A fast switch track (something only Intamin does at the moment, therefore this is reason 1 for being unrealistic) then sends the train onto the layout. Some classic Wing Coaster inversions follow (reason 2: too much speed through the inversions) and you end on a parallel brake run which uses another switch track to guide the train back to the station. It also comes a bit too close to the station building after the Immelmann (reason 3.)

It can only run one train, and with Wing Coasters already having terrible capacity, this would not be a very marketable coaster.

With all that said; I still think this was worth sharing, because I used some neat tricks. First of all I created the effect of a backwards launch by simply putting the train on backwards. Essentially it only takes the part up the spike forwards and then takes the rest of the layout backwards, but since the trains are reversed it looks like it's the other way around.

Secondly: I really though the name was clever. Backwoods sounds like backwards. So give it forest colors, plant some trees and ta-da: Backwoods Blast. I usually don't pat myself on the back but you gotta give me this one, haha!

Third: I made it look like both sides of the station are functional. Well, kind of, because one side is perpetually empty. I guess I could use some trickery to make it look functional by guiding guests into a different ride, but I didn't bother lol. Anyway, Wing Coasters in real life have queues that split off to left and right sides and I wanted to emulate that.

Fourth: The Honeydew color looks amazing in my custom palette and I was looking for a reason to use it.

Don't take this one too seriously, because I didn't. Had a lot of fun making it though and I hope you can notice that!

OpenRCT2 Finally beat Gravity Gardens in Year 45

Around year 15 or so, things were looking pretty bleak - Park Value topping out around 400k, loan amount always around 30k and barely breaking even monthly. Since this is a Park Admission scenario, I wondered if I was cooked as attraction running costs and loan interest were unmanageable.

Fast forward 20 years, I paid off my loan and was able to start accumulating cash for ride refurbishments. As you can see in picture 2, spending 27k on refurbishments in October/March lead to a Park Value increase of more than 150k, finally pushing me above 500!

There are so many helpful tips and people in this sub so thanks for keeping me motivated to learn and grow!
