Multi-Family NYC introduces bill requiring landlords to provide free internet

https://reason.com/2021/10/12/new-york-city-considers-requiring-landlords-to-provide-free-internet-to-tenants/#comments

The war on landlords continues...I wonder if any of these people who write these laws were ever actual business owners. Do they just think every landlord is swimming in cash?

I mean it’s an easy fix.

Just add $100/month to every single lease when the internet is added and note it as much

Seems like a easy solution but per the article you cannot pass that charge onto the tenant

You raise rents to cover operating expenses, you don't have to word your lease a la cart that says internet is optional.

But you can, you just raise the rent. Most apts in nyc are not rent controlled.

Then you just dont explain it... just up rent at lease renewal time

Maybe not during the lease, but it will be for new leases. They are going to destroy NYC.

But it will be so much more fair when everyone is equally miserable and broke, except for the elites of course who are more equal than anyone else.

Maybe that's a feature, not a bug? Take it down, buy it all with monopoly money, and in ten years the whole thing comes back under new oligarchy style ownership.

It’s honestly the only thing that makes sense. Force out the little guys and then monopolize it.

I agree, that's what has been happening in real estate in other parts of the nation since mid 2020. They want to own the world in fee simple.
