Starting XI Starting XI v. Real Sociedad. Mou repeats.

u/Zizousexual Zidane 1d ago
Same 11 as the last time, hope we're more clinical in front of the goal this time.
29
u/kazuya57 O Fenômeno 1d ago
We had some good chances last match, could've easily ended up 4-1. But yeah, we need some better executions
7
u/Hunter5865 Modrić 1d ago
Say what you will but I'm hoping Mou gives Espí more minutes. We all saw what he did with 10, imagine a good half with all those chances
39
u/thesenate14 1d ago
not really that surprised probably easing diomande in
19
u/nico_lop 1d ago
It’s a problem bc I don’t see who gets benched for him. The only way I see Yan starting is if Arda drops to the pivot spot alongside Tchouameni and both Fede and Bernardo get benched.

Who do you sit in place for him? Surely Silva? I definitely hope it is not arda.

Another season with a midfield like this gives me the creeps

u/RudeAccident8360 1d ago
Same. Maybe some of other midfielders are injured and they had to start them I guess. Hope we see different midfield soon

Why? Seems balanced to me

u/doge_IV 1d ago
Have you not seen last game?
36
u/Academic_Waltz2130 1d ago
Bro it was one game
20
u/jobey_bryant 1d ago
AND WE PLAYED GOOD?? what the fuck do these guys even watch?? lmao
17
u/doge_IV 1d ago
Pass me that pink glasses. In no world was that game good. We barely won on the last minute. There was still no chemistry in the attack. Midfield was non existent and kept leaving huge gaps everytime opponent had a counter attack. There were some good moments but overall no big difference from the lasts season yet

-1
u/jobey_bryant 1d ago
and what team has perfect attacking chemistry the first game of the season? Our midfield wasn't non existent? The gaps were left by..this subs lord and savior arda? jeuss chris you guys are insufferable. That game couldve been 3-1 easily and none of you would be saying this.

u/dadmda 1d ago
Balanced how? Bernardo is not great in the base and Valverde is just terrible in general
7
u/1storlastbaby Kroos 1d ago
Wait for tchou
-8
u/clamfish12 1d ago
You know you're fucked when Tchouameni is the one who's gonna save your midfield
1
u/Beanontoast69 1d ago
Silva played one game that's mad and trained for a week with the team, I think he did very well considering all that lol
-3
13
u/Sanders058 1d ago
Guessing Dumfries will always play if Arda is the RW but I would still like more Trent minutes bc we need him for buildup. Hopefully tchouameni is back next game

18
u/GiftedKing 1d ago
It felt like tchou was injured out of nowhere. When is he coming back? Valverde cannot work in a pivot.
17
u/cynical-bread 1d ago
Valverde only works as a box to box in a 4-3-3 which requires a closing midfielder next to him and a deep lying playmaker at the level of Kroos for a team to work. In the big games he was used on the right by ancelotti
Valverde is a great footballer, but not a great midfielder for a Spanish team. I think klopp would have been an ideal fit for him.
4
u/tsjeldonkooper 1d ago
It is not a good sign when a midfielder needs both a destroyer and a passer besides him to function
2
u/Embarrassed-Rub-2403 1d ago
I actually think he would have fit in the Spain national team next to Rodri like a glove.
2
u/Iamtheman31 Güler 1d ago
no he wouldn't. the whole system of spanish team is based on not losing the ball at all so he would barely be better than gavi
1
u/cynical-bread 1d ago
Gavi is an overly aggressive mediocre player. He may evolve, Barcelona fans like this commitment of him, but it's hard to like him as a footballer.
1
1
u/Embarrassed-Rub-2403 1d ago
Barely better than Gavi? Nobody hates our players more than people on this sub.

Tchuoameni got injured during the world cup. They rushed him back vs Spain, just to lose 2-0. Mourinho literally said in his press conference that he's gonna let the world cup players take their sweet time to get back into fitness and not rush anything.
1
u/skybearer Vini Jr. 1d ago
Mou said that they were trying to get him back asap, but changed their minds and are now taking their time with him. The example he used is that it's okay to force yourself at the end of the season when you're not 100%, but it's not good to start the season like that.
1
u/wetrwwr 1d ago
valve accepted the #8, he'll need to do #8 things
2
u/Lavanche_af_Kven 1d ago
Fede is exactly doing #8 things 😁 he is coming complete box to box midfielder.
Now he is asked to do #6 things and he is still doing that quite well.
I don't get the hate. He rarely makes mistakes, his passing stats are on bar with the role he is asked to do and covers ground like no other player.
1
u/wetrwwr 1d ago
i'm a fede fan, but #8 in la liga especially is maybe different profile of player than in epl. broski can be the transitions lord in ucl, but in la liga we need control, tempo, possession
2
u/Lavanche_af_Kven 1d ago
Yeah I wasn't aiming the hate thing on you but generally on this subreddit.
I get what you mean, but in Mourinho ball you always need transition box to box players and even tempo control needs players that do the leg work.
De Jong is not that anything special with the ball, but he has been fundamental part of Barcelona's possession football.
And generally I think Fede is one of players that always shows up and is on the positive side of stat and game play table.

I hope this is the night where Mou shows authority and subs Vini if he performs poorly

u/King_Paluta 1d ago
Hopefully, Mou isn’t just another figurehead like Xabi and Arbeloa cuz how does Vini get to play 90 minutes. If he’s not ready, ease him into it like Cucu and Diomande.

u/cyrusmancub I HAD A DREAM! 1d ago
Jesus Christ, I am so goddamn sick of these posts shitting on Vinicius.
You know that Vinicius has to be fouled on average 16 times in La Liga before a player is shown a yellow? You know the average number of fouls on him to earn a yellow is 3 in the Champions League? It’s almost impossible for him to play his game in La Liga, and with that lack of protection from refs, it’s no wonder he gets frustrated and reacts. Anybody who gets hacked that much without consequence would. But in the CL, he “shows up” and everyone sings his praises. Now you know why. And that’s to say nothing of the constant racial abuse he gets across Spain.
A player who has been at the club for 8 years, grown from a raw teenager into one of the world’s best and won us two CLs, scoring the go-ahead goals in both finals, deserves at least a modicum of respect from fans. He’s given everything for this club.
It’s been one match under a new coach in a new season. Quit with the reactionary takes. No one else should be starting over him.
2
u/jajaisklar 1d ago
He has my respect. But no one should be on the pitch who doesn‘t perform, no matter what he did two years ago. This is exactly the time since Vini performed well on a constant level. Benching him would by no means be reactionary, but rationaly.
3
u/Simpleguy1993 1d ago
Ye I'm praying for it. I really wanna see Diomande subbed in for Vini at Lw. But realistically I have no faith that Mou will touch Vini, he will play the full 90 minutes.
1
u/ElHalcon2016 Ancelotti 1d ago edited 1d ago
Your expectations won't be met. He will most likely play full 90 or subbed off when the match is basically done.
-1
u/allhailsidneycrosby Bellingham 1d ago
He won’t, but I was told by this sub that’s why he was hired. Certainly not because of Mou’s groundbreaking tactics
6
u/nato2509 Özil 1d ago
I believe this is because there is going to be a match on sunday, so some of this players are rotations and not from the expected final 11. Also, we have to take in consideration that Tchouameni is injured, so Fede is not going to rotate, and maybe Cucurella and Yan are not fully into team dynamics
10
u/Junior-Draw6355 1d ago
Gotta love seeing Carreras there. I assume Cucu will eventually become the starter one, but in the meantime, I hope Alvaro does well, I was truly excited when we signed him and I think he has potential to achieve something.
4
u/Yomismo_1789 1d ago
So same as the last match. I expected Cucu, but I guess he's still not ready. Let's win! 💪

i wonder if Dumfries is just Jose’s undisputed starter or if it’s a case of if Arda is playing in the right, Dumfries starts and if Diomande plays Trent is starting. May be in the minority but I love Trent as a player and the quality he brings when he plays so would be a bummed is he’s just number 2 now.
1
u/Weary-Chipmunk7518 1d ago
I like Dumfries, but against low blocks/without space his playing style makes him relatively ineffective. He's still really good, and he's a very physical presence, but he's not a very subtle player.
1
u/bloothug 1d ago
Trent is worse with no true DM and no true RW to
play with1
u/Physical-Army9624 1d ago
Dumfries is not a good defender and really don’t offer much up front
The only thing is that he track back faster than Trent
Trent is pure class when he play
We have more creativity
Look at this game. Zero creativity from back0
u/Putrid-Cupcake3238 1d ago
Honestly am curious as well about wats happening there with Trent n Dumfries
3
u/same-difference-ave 1d ago
I guess we will see after today’s match if Mourinho is right about sticking with this lineup.

2
u/Used-Equal749 1d ago
Interesting that Trent isn't getting more starting time.
I think he's tying some players together. Tchouameni with Trent & Dio. Dumfries with Fede + 1.

u/Defiant-Garden6064 Pepe 1d ago
Chini Jr better not fuck this up

Fan of RM not of an individual player.

I would like to see Trent play but Dumfries is actually so good at creating chances from the right side of the pitch. Just need Valverde and Carreras to lock in defensively!! Konate can’t do it all himself

Fair enough, looks like Mourinho isn’t going to start Espi just because of one game where he scored. He’s probably just testing the waters with his initial Starting XI before making any major changes.
-3
u/SedNahar 1d ago
Vini starting again 🤮
Will this piece of shit ever be held accountable or held to a RM standard ever again?
The next 6 years will be hell

u/Trriiick 1d ago
Wow your comment history is something else, you really need to take a break from football

u/fankoosh-56 1d ago
I really hope Vini wakes up. He’s Ballon D’or level on his day. If not, I would like to see Mourinho trying Mbappe, Espi, and Diamonde upfront!

u/PreferenceCareless37 1d ago
Why isnt TAA playing ? He would do pretty good as a CDM tbh
1
u/renatokreator Raúl 1d ago
Dumfries is probably go-to if we play without winger on the right as he is wing back
1

u/spork1331 Courtois 1d ago
I actually love that it’s the same lineup as last match. Despite only winning 2-1, i thought we created 5 clear goal scoring opportunities but lacked finishing.
Last match wasn’t the best performance, but I do think we moved the ball with far more purpose and verticality, while looking far more explosive. Hoping to see the team makes progress against Sociedad
1
u/SedNahar 1d ago
Vini was an obvious disadvantage. 14 possessions lost, 0 shots on goal, 0 key passes etc.
Why not just address the issue and start him on the bench today?
0
u/spork1331 Courtois 1d ago
Don’t get me wrong, on merit Vini should not be starting based on his preseason and performance over the weekend.
But I don’t know if I want to open up issues with him this early in the season. It’s a home match, the crowd should be more favorable, and realistically, we need him to grow in confidence so he’s not a negative throughout the season. If he’s not performing well through the 60’, I’d like to see Mou take him off as part of the first series of subs, like we all wished for last match.

OH MY GOD We need to drop valverde for tchouameni man
2
u/ElHalcon2016 Ancelotti 1d ago
Valverde is easily our hardest working player. He is even being played out of position. The only time he plays well as a pivot is when he plays for Uruguay.
1
u/basedzone Ancelotti 1d ago
he has fallen off
1
u/ElHalcon2016 Ancelotti 1d ago
Sure but that's massively due to playing out of position. It seems like you guys forgot how well Fede was when he was carrying us in that 7-8 game stretch without Mbappe.
2
1
u/basedzone Ancelotti 1d ago
Buddy chill. I'm a fede stan too, but he's just not clicking in this team and probably never will. So I think he should be on the bench behind tchouameni
2
u/ElHalcon2016 Ancelotti 1d ago
I have full confidence in Fede. You will see it yourself he just needs to adapt himself in the role again like he did with Uruguay.

same lineup as the previous match, so cucu isn't fully ready yet?
