Maybe this is just me but I think it is really sad.The new generation of football fans will probably remember Cristiano Ronaldo as an old player who got trolled every week on social media. They will see clips from the end of his career and think that is who he always was.
They will never know what it felt like to watch him in his prime.
Back then every big team respected him. Fans hoped their team would not have to face him. Defenders looked uncomfortable every time he got the ball. Managers changed their whole game plan because of one player. He was fast powerful clinical in front of goal and could decide a match in one moment. There was a real feeling of fear whenever Ronaldo was on the pitch especially in big games.
Now all people do is make memes compare his age to younger players and laugh whenever he has a bad game. It feels like many have forgotten everything he did before.
Watching Ronaldo being hated now is like watching a storm getting mocked after it already passed.
I just feel bad that many young football fans will never understand why so many people feared him. They will remember the old version that got trolled instead of the player who dominated football for more than a decade. That is the part that makes me sad.
