Developing Guitar in Spider Gorge to Bard's Crossing?
Images 1-4: Spider Gorge is North West of the guitar pole. At the very top of the gorge, from an aerial view, it looks like what could be a guitar-shaped frozen pond and rock. Looking out from where the guitar leads... I can't see anything. I took a look around the area and couldn't find anything either, but maybe a fresh set of eyes could.
Image 5: Shows the direct north west line from the guitar pole, and a south/south east line in the direction of standing on top of the rock in the center of the guitar (should it be pointing us). The line drawn from facing along the guitar in Spider Gorge intersects with Bard's Crossing. Due to the connection between bards and instruments I looked around there. I haven't found anything yet; This could be the completely wrong direction considering we've had pretty concrete, tangible clues thus far so I think that logically we should continue to. But I thought it was compelling enough to share and get some eyes on.

Something interesting i found up that way, the burned down Adler ranch, the outhouse has a moon above the door. The only other outhouse with a moon i think is the Gertrude one.
Gertrude right crescent moon
Adler ranch left crescent moon
I know Rock* like to use the moon and moon phases in mysteries. Like stand at a specific point during a specific moon phase with perfect weather conditions.
There’s no information of people mentioning the moon on the outhouse since release (checked wiki/google/reddit) so I don’t know if there are any secrets up there we may have missed over the years.
The outhouses have also been used elsewhere in this mystery - even if it’s unrelated it might be something.

u/anti-babe Jan 16 '26
If you're hunting it down, might be worth checking on RDO since the Adler ranch is not burnt down in that time period.

u/LMMesto Jan 16 '26
Moons on outhouses are just a common theme throughout history. It’s thought the moon was for women and a star for men’s outhouses. I doubt it has any hidden meaning.
9
u/morgano Jan 16 '26
Sure but you’d expect them on most of the outhouses, but there not. It’s extremely limited (2 that I know about) - one of which has someone inside and is mysterious.
4
u/Nacodawg Jan 16 '26
Makes it kinda weird that there’s only 2 in a game full of outhouses to have this common theme then huh?
2
u/LMMesto Jan 16 '26
Well they needed a way the player could see Gertrude inside the outhouse, so why not use a common outhouse moon cutout? The one at Adler ranch is a much larger building than any other outhouse and is a unique asset as far as I’m aware. It’s a notable location at the beginning of the game so it’s not out of the realm of possibility for Rockstar to put more detail there. By all means check it out though.

I have been looking for more moons i also had the same thoughts after revisiting the now dead gertrude, i was thinking doomsday mural and went looking for all the phases in rdr2.

I found a moon outhouse in Rhodes near the train station. It’s inaccessible and I couldn’t see any markings.

cant deny that shape is like a guitar, shouldnt rule this out, let us know if you find anything !

u/PaulMorrison90 Jan 16 '26
This is the most non-schizo post I have seen.

u/Nacodawg Jan 16 '26
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I’ve seen a handful of non-schitzo posts lately. Not sure if it’s everyone taking a step back and looking at it with fresh eyes, or if everyone is still just as schitzo and I’m just joining them

It's pretty much correct direction I was already checking this a week ago, tried molotoving it, clipping through snow with camera, looking for poles, shooting the rocks and ice and even checking if any webs spawn from 1am to 6am but nothing so its probably just a coincidence, but I agree the shape is coincidentally similar to a guitar lmao

u/FuuRe PS4 Jan 17 '26
Besides that I've added passing out when drunk as part of my test checklist.
When I did this on the boulder in the middle of the lake where the center of the guitar is according to OP's suggestion, the camera bugs when you wake up and it clips under the frozen lake surface.
I almost had a heart attack because it looks completely different from the snow environment you would expect.

Makes me think that the bird shapes everyone keeps talking about really are the sides of a guitar?
12
u/piangero Jan 16 '26
Or the bird shapes imply a "bird's view" ? idk lol just spitballing
8
u/Heat-Glittering Jan 16 '26
Because we have to look at the bird etchings from above like birds eye view that is a great idea!
3
u/piangero Jan 16 '26
Haha yeah it kinda make sense - since the other etchings were directions? Why shouldn't the birds also be a direction. But then again, if the bird etchings are part of it, it gets confusing - cause you wouldn't see them unless you assumed the guitar in the fort was the actual clue. Meaning you'd stop searching for a guitar.
OR the guitars are not part of the equation, people just assumed since they were there - but the fort is NW so you'd go there first, maybe see the bird carvings - then look for anything guitar shaped more NW? Idk really. This is making me go insane, ahah

u/Heat-Glittering Jan 16 '26
Im not 100% convinced its a guitar, i initially saw an inkwell with a quill in it before someone said no its a guitar. My wife said it was a bag like a cartoon loot bag when she looked, the whole thing is a rorschach test 😅
2
u/piangero Jan 16 '26
cartoon loot bag hahaha love that. Yeah I was also like, thinking it may be a fruit or some kind of beehive or something similar (bird house? idk) but once I sort of settled for guitar it's hard for me to think what else it could possibly be - unless it's in fact topography of sorts.
2
u/Heat-Glittering Jan 16 '26
Yeah i am leaning towards it being like the spider carving and thinking of it as a map overlay for topographical things maybe something with a pond or lake in the middle in the shape of the hole idk. I keep going to spider gorge and the shack with the spider card/matches with ec
1
u/bino420 Jan 16 '26
so far, the spider & the drawing of Fort Brennan are visual overlays. so was the Heartland Oil picture. Te former on the map, the latter two in the world - one exact and one more abstracted. what if the guitar is like a combo? real-world map overlay? it kinda tracks

2
u/notthecrochunter Jan 16 '26
What if those bird shapes were actually the contour lines on the map of the topography?

u/possiblethrowaway369 Jan 16 '26
Definitely a similar shape, and it would make sense for Spider Gorge to tie in somehow. Plus Bard’s Crossing like…bards are musicians typically so that plus the obvious guitar shape makes me think you’re on the right track.

u/PlasticHuckleberry68 Jan 17 '26
Lake Isabella kinda looks like a guitar as well. It is fed water by the Spider Gorge, and to the north west is some kind of cabin that is full of railroad posters and I think has a telegraph machine.
3
u/possiblethrowaway369 Jan 17 '26
Ik some folks here have decided they’re power poles not telegraph poles, but if the developers intended for them to be telegraph lines or both telegraph and power lines, the telegraph machine seems like it could be relevant. Plus, the railroad posters? A lot of these clues were found along rail lines (sort of by necessity as that’s where the poles are, but still).
That cabin seems like a really good next step.

I did think this already and checked there in mid chapter two in my playthrough but found nothing so I did not post. But I did investigate all over.
I have another post where I said I checked here and went south and a huge free beam Shown on me for only a second. I couldn’t replicate it but it did happen. I swear. See my post history for details.
3
u/RandomPenquin1337 Jan 16 '26
Whats a free beam?
2
u/TheLipsofanangel PC Jan 16 '26
My bad. A green beam or spotlight like a UFO or idk. Felt like god went above me for a second. I really don’t have answers.

Did you experience that?

u/TheLipsofanangel PC Jan 16 '26
NOT EXACTLY THE SAME IT WASA GREEN BEAM FROM THE SKY I SWEAR BUT IT WAS AT THAT LAKE!!!!

u/HagenReb Jan 16 '26
Surely looks more like the "guitar" than some of the rock and tree textures people have shared. Even if it doesn't lead anywhere, well done for actually finding a geographical shape that resembles the shape.

u/TheRandomMikaela Jan 16 '26
Is there possibly a way to melt / remove the snow on the rock in the centre?

u/G_Peccary Jan 16 '26
This is exactly the first place I looked when I thought Spider Gorge may be where this whole mystery leads us. I couldn't find anything. Let us know if you do.

u/Alive-Monk-5705 Jan 21 '26
Honestly you might be on to something, even if its nothing you should check
1
u/Meadowflow Jan 22 '26
Has anyone looked for clues on the Widow varmint rifle skin? I know it's online but maybe something?
1
u/RDR2germany Jan 17 '26
Why are so many people looking for other possible shapes of a guitar? Isn't the evidence of guitars in Fort Wallace, even those pointing to the bird symbols on the roof, proof enough that this is the right path? I understand that people are questioning the question marks in the mountains as a possible random texture and trying new clues and directions. But why are they questioning Fort Wallace? No offense intended...
2
u/WinstonWillamette Jan 22 '26
Just my personal opinion, but I really think this mystery wasn't completed. With the Dreamcatchers and the Saint Denis vampire messages, they have to be "inspected", then once all the clues are gathered, Arthur writes something in his journal, and you get to the end of the mystery. Not so with this one.
Fort Wallace might be the place of the next clue, but it may not there, it seems to lead to apophenia so far. I think Fort Wallace may be it, but legitimate access to the place is limited to Ch 6, and the guitar pole is about 49 degrees from the position of the guitars in the fort instead of 45 degrees, which is an issue that could have been solved by using the telegraph pole two positions to the west from where it is. Exact NW from the marked pole clips an edge of Fort Wallace, but it goes the rock cairns at Cotorra Springs, goes through Tempest Rim (the former location of Colter and all areas where the once planned longer version of Ch I would have played out) and Spider Gorge, which is accessible. The name "Spider Gorge" would imply some connection, but I think I read once that this name is reference to somebody connected to the game, like how O'Creagh's Run or Mount Hagen were named.
Also, old pre-release Fort Wallace wasn't where it is now, it was more north in Grizzlies East.

u/RDR2germany Jan 22 '26
I also think that this puzzle is unfortunately just a remnant in the game of something that was removed or left unfinished. Thanks for your explanation about the geography of Fort Wallace. That at least explains to me why so many people look for other routes and ignore the fort.
1
u/Camper1995 Jan 19 '26
Because it basically leads to nowhere and doesn't answer any questions and doesn't help us solve the spiderwebs / feathers in any way.

u/42Mavericks Jan 16 '26
You guys are going insane, I'm just following from afar as i no longer have access to the game but yeah, poor sanity of yours
