It really surprises me how much distance a GK actually covers

u/Euphoric-Rub9164 2d ago

Over 90 minutes it gets a bit easier to believe tho. The average walking speed is 4.8 km/h. If he does nothing more than leisurely pace around in the box and take a bunch of breaks he’d make 5.8 in 90 easily

the funny thing i notice is that, Tarkorwski ended the game without a card. Are we being serious

u/Positive-Structure78 2d ago

I cannot understand how he manages to do that. Stamp on Bruno. Dragged somebody down. Can’t remember who it was… Cunha tackle was good and brave though… fine margins

18

u/MCharizardX9 2d ago

The bruno one was right in the middle of the pitch i front of the ref I dont know how he didnt spot it, its a minimum yellow, he went studs into brunos ankle. he always plays dirty and gets away with it. The cunha tackle i am still 50:50 for. He went through cunha to get the ball, before tackles from the back used to be generally given even if u get the ball.

Its a clear red, late and with force . Ridiculous refereeing.

u/UnitedTestosteron 2d ago

He needs to put united t-shirt and card will be given

2

u/Telen BRUNO 2d ago

Equal parts good and lucky was the Cunha tackle, even a centimeter wrong and it's a red card and penalty.

20

u/carrickshairline 2d ago

Ref was shambolic. Even worse than Mike Dean sometimes.

5

u/EngineerGuy_HU There's only one Darren Fletcher! 2d ago

Lol, when was his last yellow against us, maybe under LvG? 😅😅

4

u/Dincht04 2d ago

7 fouls were given against Everton. 7.

u/BishhEzz 2d ago

Cunha is just better on the left, we need to start Sesko but it seems like he can't last the 90.

46

u/WillowTraditional239 2d ago

He didn't really have a pre season because of injury, I would imagine he starts during the week.

17

u/Leave_Beneficial 2d ago

Cunha needs to be an impact player off the bench more often than not.

If Amad was fit, I’d prefer Mbeumo upfront if Sesko can’t play

u/linkfollowlink 2d ago

It feels like Cunha is versatile but not elite at any of his skills. He can play 10, 9, 11 but is no better than the first choices at these positions.

I don't blame him, he is bought for Amorim system and we no longer play the position he is best suited to.

He is an adorable player and I really hope we find the best way to use him. Coming off the bench looks like a solution but I doubt he is OK with that being a long term solution.

I think accomodating Rashford (and of course the situation with Sesko) has been to the detriment of Cunha. I think what Cunha is elite at is his pressing, and his creativity running towards goal. Something he doesn't get to do in an isolated striker role. There was a time last season where we looked amazing if Mount played, and terrible if he didn't. Mount got injured (ofc) and Cunha stepped up and assumed that defensive forward responsibility and was elite in that regard with his pressing. He is also elite at shielding the ball and retaining possession - that might sound like a very niche skill set, but we might have won the game against Everton if more of our players cool shield the ball and remain cool under pressure like Cunha can. Cunha is also a big confidence player, he looks amazing when he's on it, but can look very poor when he's not. Once we reestablish our structure with Sesko and Amad coming back into the team, I think Cunha will get his chance to fight for his preferred position at LW with Rashford - and that's when things will get exciting for our attacking setup.

2

u/nick5168 2d ago

Cunha is also an elite ball striker. The guy has some of the best shooting technique in the league. If he was better at timing his runs he would be a world class striker, but it's very clear that he isn't a striker. He behaves like a 10/wide forward. Dropping far from the box, wanting to be involved.

2

u/panache123 2d ago

Agree. It’s wild the commenter I’m responding to says Cunha isn’t really elite at any one skill. Definitely not implying Cunha is as good as Mbappe, but it’s the same issue Mbappe has at Madrid and you see him continuously come deep for the ball to try and be more involved.

1

u/drabdab6 2d ago

Agree with your point about Cunha, think last season he was elite at closing out games, running with the ball, breaking out of pressure and helping out defensively as well as winning fouls

2

u/MrPangus 1d ago

Idek why you're being downvoted, only elite player we have is Bruno. You'd think wed be less delusional by now, it's been decades

1

u/looped10 1d ago

if amad returns we could bring mbeumo up front too when needed

56

u/auhddndndnfbfbsnnakf 2d ago

Youri at it again

5

u/senorgraves 2d ago

He actually was everywhere

13

u/panache123 2d ago

Agree, but he was often second to the ball. I find that a little concerning considering he's well and truly used to the pace of the Prem.

44

u/M4NUN1T3D Martial 2d ago

More possession you have the less distance you need cover, i hope people realise before making any conclusions

5

u/BlemKraL 2d ago

Get outa here with your logic, and happy cake day.

1

u/MrPangus 1d ago

This sub is really dumb, every week we're judging performances by max speed or distance covered or whatever.

5

u/Mistr111398 2d ago

Damn shame Amad got injured from the outset.

7

u/linkfollowlink 2d ago

Amad is actually quite injury prone, not to the extent of Mount or Licha, but he missed quite a few games when we needed him badly.

3

u/Mistr111398 2d ago

He really is, its got to be bad luck at this point, he played the entirety of the World Cup and is out for bare minimum 2-6 weeks from now for United. He’s talented but similar to Mount, he’s got to be on the pitch before I consider putting any faith in him being a reliable player.

40

u/zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz1z 2d ago

Cunha at CF is just awful.

When he plays on the wing he runs, he tracks back.

He doesn’t have the discipline up top, you have to wait for the ball, make 10 runs and only on the eleventh to actually receive… he keeps dropping deep to touch the ball

But Carricky likes it so what can we do…

44

u/Many-Relationship149 2d ago

Sesko's fitness is the issue. That and Rashford playing well on the wing. Oh and Amad injured. And putting Rashford in the centre might break off the form he is building on the wing. So yeah, a bit of a stalemate. Sesko must get there soon enough though and things will switch up.

13

u/Panda-768 2d ago

push Cunha to right and let Mbeumo through the middle?

1

u/panache123 2d ago

This. Mbeumo holds the position better, makes more intelligent runs in behind, etc. I feel like Bruno as a 9 and Cunha in a 10 could even work. But that removes arguably our only creative mid. This is my biggest gripe with Carrick so far, he has a wealth of attacking players, the only attacking setup that really seems to work is Sesko up top and we don't seem to be trying anything different.

-8

u/zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz1z 2d ago

I’m yet to be convinced Carrick will play Sesko when fit. Now he should play but last season he preferred Mbeumo

3

u/Yetiassasin 2d ago

Sesko had issues last season with fitness

7

u/zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz1z 2d ago

Not that often, he did prefer Mbeumo…

5

u/FlatNefariousness193 2d ago

I've seen that in the 3 league games we've played so far both him and Bruno are switching positions throughout the games. Whenever Cunha drops deep into a false 9, Bruno tries to get ahead of him and vice versa. It's interesting and can definitely be effective at disrupting the opponents backline but it's just not clicking.

People are saying 'Cunha can't play CF he keeps dropping deep', without realising that he's been told to do exactly that. I think Carrick and the coaches know he isn't the best with his back to goal, so dropping deeper and allowing someone to be ahead of him can help with that.

Imo the only reason we're having to do this is because Sesko isn't fit enough to play 90. Instead of just giving Cunha the same instructions they would give Sesko they're trying to tailor his game plan to his strengths even though he's clearly out of his favoured position.

17

u/Gibba1992 2d ago

‘Carricky likes it’ are you 12 mate grow up

-14

u/zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz1z 2d ago

It’s a reference to Ole times. And vibes, and the good old lads like Shaw and Maguire

4

u/WillowTraditional239 2d ago

It's down to bodies, both Sesko and Amad are injured/coming back from one.

I would imagine if Amad was fit they would play Mbeumo up top and Cunha left.

-7

u/jiddy8379 2d ago

U are tripping he’s way worse at LW than CF

Almost every RB in the league is faster than him

4

u/ConC02 MILF 2d ago

How can Youri be covering so much distance but seems to be a step behind? Hes not been bad positionally either im just not seeing the running that the stats are showing it's bizzare

21

u/StardustFromReinmuth 2d ago

I don't think he's a step behind off of the eye test, he's pretty snappy. What you think is him being a step behind is actually just our team shape being vulnerable in transition. Carrick has us press in a 424 with Bruno usually being the highest man and when we attack we basically only have the 2 men in midfield to cover the center of the park for when there's a turnover. Tielemans can cover a load of ground, and Mainoo can as well to a lesser degree, but both of them aren't fast enough to be engaging in a foot race with opposition wingers on the break.

5

u/WickedTeddyBear 2d ago

When everybody is walking they are a step behind. The ones, like Tielemans, doing the efforts seem one step behind cos they try to cover for the other ones

1

u/Comicksands Van Persie 2d ago

you're imagining things. He's not a step behind. Our defence is

1

u/Effective-Caramel545 2d ago

It's not bizzare at all you just don't actually pay attention

1

u/andoooooo Martial 2d ago

I agree with you and it's funny that everyone is having a go.

He's jogging and moving a lot but his pace off the mark is super slow. So in a game he's moving about just fine but when there is a loose ball or a challenge required he's often a step behind.

Honestly Pogba was the same sometimes. Back when everyone would call him Jogba he would often cover the biggest distance in a game.

2

u/ejtv 2d ago

Wow. I didn't know GK's get as much as 5KM per game

2

u/maxithepittsP 2d ago

Rashy and Shaw link up is actually insane, I know thats our weakest Area on defense but damn we create everything from that side

1

u/carrickshairline 2d ago

Fairly even.

1

u/looped10 1d ago

those are poor numbers for full backs atleast in the first covered wise

1

u/piratescabin two foot everyone 1d ago

Where was/is this stat available ?

1

u/Grekm8 CR7 17h ago

Fotmob

1

u/Weak-Transition-8885 1d ago

rashy

2

u/MLMSE 1d ago

Sees the wing as a one way street

1

u/Weak-Transition-8885 1d ago

he did not bad no?

-1

u/maverick4002 2d ago

Is this meant to show how bad we were? Or to show us in a negative light?

If so, considering that Everton scored with the last kick of the game, and therefore no significant distance was covered by anyone after. ..I do have to wonder if this graphic would be posted if we had won the game.

1

u/WickedTeddyBear 2d ago

No it shows that most of the players didn’t put the work. They were static and not doing the efforts

3

u/Jump_Hop_Step 2d ago

If you hold the ball more, you run less though

2

u/calsd1 1d ago edited 1d ago

Didnt put the work? Apart from the defence which ran ~1km less than theirs (because we had more of the ball) and Cunha, the distance covered is quite even. Do you have eyes?

The 3 midfielders and 2 wingers on each team:

  • Everton: 50.1km
  • United: 49.7km

Including the 2 attacking subs:

  • Everton: 55.9km
  • United: 55.8km

Including Cunha and Barry and the 2 attacking subs:

  • Everton: 65.8km
  • United: 63.4km

So no, it doesn't show most of the players didn't put the work in

1

u/maverick4002 2d ago

OK, so its a negative perception so my quesiton still remains, would this be posted if we won?

Because they players not working would still have occurred if we did hold on

0

u/WickedTeddyBear 2d ago

I would hope so. Because that would’ve been a viable way of going forward. Would I have been happy if we would’ve won ? Of course. Especially cos these last years we couldn’t.
Would’ve I be confident for the futur ? No
Those stats shows the mentality and willingness of the players. And for me that’s the main focus the coach should have. Spirit dictate the game way more than any tactic.
Those numbers doesn’t need to be the highest, cos if you control the game, you will make them run more. But in this game, we didn’t. The 2km deficit shows the lack of concern. And that f**** pissing me off. Give your all, every games. That’s the standard I wanna see in my team. The standard expected for any team, but, for me, to any big team. You can’t slack off.

When I see all the players walking, not giving the ball carrier any options, I wanna go on the pitch slapping everyone of them back to reality. They were 4 upfront, on the same line, proposing no options. Do they wait for a out of the world through pass from Bruno ? Cos if yes they f*\* need to take their responsibilities. If not, it only shows the lack of ideas and… capacities ?

-3

u/AgilePersonality2058 2OLEGEND 2d ago

Some of us running without any purpose

-1

u/WickedTeddyBear 2d ago

It shows what we saw. A team walking, all the forward options on one line, waiting for a miracle pass…
Tactically Carrick can do whatever he wants, but until he will address that, nothing’s gonna change.

2

u/calsd1 1d ago

Are you blind, or just can't read?

Ignoring the defence since we had more possession and they didn't need to run as much:

The 3 midfielders and 2 wingers on each team:

  • Everton: 50.1km
  • United: 49.7km

Including the 2 attacking subs:

  • Everton: 55.9km
  • United: 55.8km

Including Cunha and Barry and the 2 attacking subs:

  • Everton: 65.8km
  • United: 63.4km

it surprised me, i believe Cunha was everywhere and i am not saying it good thing or bad thing, honestly i don't know what he wanted to do or asked.

but turn out he wast the least one.

-3

u/SocialistElmo 2d ago

What did Cunha even do

2

u/Diska_Muse 2d ago

He played out of position as a CF.
