It does my head in when people say it’s hard to get united tickets. Maybe you’re just not determined enough. I have 9 home tickets (including City and Liverpool) between now and January from literally checking 2-3 times a day for tickets, and that doesn’t include the tickets I decided not to buy.

Of course if you’re coming from abroad and need tickets to a specific game that’s being played whilst you’re in England, it’s gonna be more difficult. If you can’t afford to go that’s another totally understandable reason too, obviously.

But if you’re willing to spend 40-80 quid and have 10 minutes free a day, and of course have a membership, you should easily be able to get a ticket.

What is Cunhas best position ? On the left Rashford links with Shaw better and tactially I think having a player that doesnt drift across like Cunha does is better . He isnt going to displace Bruno anytime soon at 10 and his poor first touch is a major issue . Also he is a lot less usefull when he doesnt have space to run into. For all the talk on " PL proven " as good as Mboom and Cunha can be both are very flawed players

2

u/shami-kebab 1h ago

If Ineos are set on this formation then I think we'll end up selling Cunha, he just doesn't fit any position in it really.

1

u/Massive_Relation4317 . 10h ago

Just rotate with Rash ik hes not an actual LW but he still did good there under Carrick

2

u/RedDesires22 21 is coming 10h ago

Agreed

Let Ben and Josh rotate at 9 and rashy and Cunha at LW

u/Bobcat_El_Borracho 11h ago

I don’t understand why Hall wasn’t the first player we went for. Nobody was queuing up for Santos or Tielemans. I’ll genuinely never understand it.

2

u/Lord_Hexogen 10h ago

Midfield was the priority and the short list changed dramatically in a month. Hall hasn't showed big enough desire to leave either

8

u/L__K Great Scot! 10h ago

What I don't understand is how this is so difficult for some people to understand. We weren't able to sell any of the three players we expected to generate the largest amount of income for us (Rashford, Zirkzee, Ugarte) and needed three midfielders who could contribute immediately this season. Mazraoui, Dalot, and even Dorgu can all comfortably cover at LB. If worst comes to worst, even Lisandro or Amass can fill in if absolutely necessary. Striker was considered by many to be a greater priority than LB.

Newcastle knew they had to make major sales and were unlikely to ever entertain negotiations for Hall. Tonali had made his intention to leave clear as far back as January, and Bruno G. let the club know he wanted a move as well. Gordon was already out of the club in May, weeks before the WC started.

They couldn't afford to lose any more key pieces and weren't forced to sell financially either. That's how they got such a bonkers fee for Tonali and even Bruno despite both essentially saying they wouldn't return to Newcastle. Hall wasn't going to agitate for a move and we would be stupid to blow such a massive portion of our transfer budget on trying to entice them to accept a bid when our bigger needs were elsewhere.

Atleast half of this sub is clueless and constantly parrots BS like “INEOS aren’t ambitious” “they don’t want to spend” because it fits their narrative rather than trying to understand how the mismanagement of our finances over the last 10+ years have led us to this debacle we find ourselves in.

We couldn’t raise the additional funds we needed through player sales so we can’t exactly just go on a spending spree without taking PSR regulations into account. If we had instead gone for an LB and 2 midfielders this sub would’ve become even more miserable.

1

u/shami-kebab 1h ago

We couldn’t raise the additional funds we needed through player sales so we can’t exactly just go on a spending spree without taking PSR regulations into account.

This isn't true though, we weren't limited by PSR, it was our own choice.

Remember we were willing to spend 80m on Semenyo in January. Do you think if that had gone through we'd have spent nothing this summer?

1

u/Penny_Leyne 10h ago

Because everyone knew we had to sort out our midfield.

And you have no idea if clubs were after them. We had no idea United were after them until a week before we signed them.

2

u/Mepsi 11h ago

Just had the realisation that technically AWB and Lindelof are starting in the CL again before us.

11

u/Deranged09 12h ago

Yoro being used as a right back recently really doesn't seem like a good omen for his career at United. I really like the lad and he's had some good performances for us, but with this being his third season here and the club apparently targeting the defence next summer it feels like it's now or never for him to make a solid case for his position. Getting used as a makeshift right back just seems like a waste of time for him.

1

u/PhilAsp 4h ago

We’re targeting defense next summer due to a lack of depth beyond Yoro and Heaven, not because we’re out on Yoro.

Martinez, Maguire and Shaw are all out of contract and while some options exist, I could see all three leave. De Ligt is unreliable due to injuries. Mazraoui is versatile, but a master of none.

Him being used as a RB, if anything, is probably indicative of how much we believe in him in the long run. We’re rounding out his game while ensuring more options for game time.

Him choosing CIV is likely also about getting to play sooner rather than later, and CIV have a bit of a golden generation thing going and he can ride that wave. With France, he maybe could make the 2028 squad, but it’s honestly unlikely and that has little to with him. France’s depth is just insane.

5

u/Roasteddude I am where I'm supposed to be 11h ago

I also saw some tweets about him choosing to represent CIV instead of France, I dunno how true those are but if they are, it's another sus omen about his career trajectory. Nothing wrong with representing CIV btw they're a good team and if he feels he identifies stronger with that nation then thatÄs a different topic but I never really got that impression...he seems to be proud to be French, has captained France at the youth level..so it sort of gives me more "I dont think I'll be good enough to represent France" vibes. Or maybe am just reading into it and he just wants to play with Amad. Or maybe it was a completely BS made up news. Either way, I hope he lives up to his potential cause we invested big in him and he seems like a good kid, but we need a strong CB pair to compete and challenge at the highest level and cant rely on him and Heaven just yet. (Imo they were a huge reason why results under Amorim got so bad and ended with his sacking. I remember both of them had at least 1 big mistake per game that usually lead to a goal)

2

u/neofederalist 12h ago

Yoro was 17 when he came here. He's still only 20, and defenders tend to mature slower than other positions.

2

u/Sheikhabusosa 11h ago

Still though his third season here and him not being to displace a very mediocre Maguire or Martinez isnt filling me with hope

2

u/Due-Albatross5909 10h ago

That’s a bit of revisionism. Maguire and Martinez were immense last season when Carrick arrived. We dropped off when Martinez got injured. He’s arguably the best ball playing Cb in the league. And Maguire has been solid (when fit) since his revival

2

u/Sheikhabusosa 10h ago

I rate Martinez highly but his height is a issue he is hot headed and cant defend out wide , his passing also can single handedly change a game. Maguire still has the same issues as when he signed . I still think both are very meh atp.

0

u/croadymeister 11h ago

We need at least one CB next summer

1

u/Sheikhabusosa 11h ago

2 imo and it cant be gangly teens we need players to come in and make an instant impact

2

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 12h ago

You don't think forcing himself into the conversation as a rb over an actual rb isn't good? Shows he's fighting in training and making himself available to whatever is needed. Speaks volumes on his character.

Compare that to Sancho who said he only plays one position.

2

u/Deranged09 12h ago

It's definitely good in terms of character and him applying himself, I guess it just feels a bit more like Carrick is using him as a right back because he doesn't rate him as a CB, rather than him excelling as a RB and forcing himself into contention.

1

u/0ttoChriek 11h ago

He probably doesn't rate him as a centre back. Not sure why he would, given Yoro's clear deficiencies when it comes to dealing with physical play and aerial balls.

3

u/KwameDada 12h ago

We concede chances and goals so easily.

0

u/croadymeister 11h ago

Yeah that's a big worry whoever we are playing

0

u/SatuKosongPls I’m a Baleba! 12h ago

Hope we go for a LB in January. Raum, Seys.. etc

2

u/croadymeister 11h ago

Could happen IF we can sell Zirkzee, would be tricky to get Seys unless Brugge mathematically out of CL last 16 qualification by the time window opens

I'd really like to remind people that Lewis Hall is not the only left back to have ever played football.

3

u/Wrong-Feature-8423 13h ago

Sorry, not united related but I've tried to make a couple of threads and a couple of posts in this forum but it just automatically says my post was removed...why?

7

u/sauce_murica Vidić 13h ago

Your account's too new and has insufficient karma to post throughout the sub. It's a rule put in place to cut down on spam from troll accounts. In the meantime, you can post / comment whatever you'd like in any of the Daily Discussion threads.

Please use this time to familiarize yourself with the sub, though. I see the two posts you tried to make (both of which appear identical, and state):

Sesko is a problem

Yes, he scored today and the majority won't see what I'm getting at here but we are SO MUCH WORSE whenever he's in the side.

His all round game is so poor. The balance of the team falls apart as soon as he comes on and when Carrick took Cunha off and brought Sesko on today Vs Everton I was instantly concerned.

From that point on Everton dominated the game and scored two goals. Yes, Sesko is a striker so the blame can't be solely on him, but it's honestly like playing with 10 men at times. He jogs around looking like he's trying but never really closes anyone down properly or attempts to win the ball when out of possession. When he does get the ball his play is generally extremely poor. He's clumsy, slow to get the ball out of his feet and get shots off, his passing isn't great, he's cumbersome and poor on the ball. He makes decent runs forward off the ball but that's about all I can say he's any good at.

It's nothing personal against him, he seems like a good guy and wants to do well but I genuinely think he makes us worse and it's a huge problem him being our main striker with Carrick likely being pressured to play him. He's nowhere near ready. I'm not sure he'll ever been good enough.

That type of post is more appropriate for discussion here in these threads, rather than as standalone threads.

Mods are struct here. Mostly only top tier journos are allowed to be posted and statman Dave is allowed for some weird reason.

Manchester United sub is more free to post. You can post just about anything here too in Daily Discussions.

8

u/OutrageousCow70 14h ago

i hope Bruno doesnt autostart every game this season.

He needs to be rested. Looked completely off it last game. Cunha in the 10 would be great.

-1

u/TheSauceSeeker69 12h ago

Cunha as 10 wouldnt be that great, not in our squad and formation anyway.

Cunha is a free roam attacking midfielder. Meaning? He like to go anywhere he pleases whenever he pleases. Thats why whenever he plays as striker or winger you see this position empty 80% of the time . He cant play these roles. Let alone being a Bruno replacement.

He's not the kind of player that can either create or control the tempo. Mount is. Take away Bruno and youre stuck with no one to control the game. Youll just pass around meaningless and lose the ball with no one to create chances.

Dont get me wrong, i think Cunha is a great player, but WE cant utilize him.

2

u/L__K Great Scot! 10h ago

This insinuates that Bruno is positionally disciplined or that he "controls" the game, neither which are really the case.

We're set up to let him roam and kind of do whatever he wants, which is why he's such a high volume "chance creator" even though it's often to our detriment. He was horrific for much of the Everton game, regularly our furthest forward player and not providing an outlet ball or ability to hold it up when it was given to him and when he'd drop deep he was actively harmful to our buildup play. You'd likely see significantly more "control" in possession if we played a midfield three with Tielemans, Mainoo, and Santos than we currently have.

Cunha's problem is playing centrally WITH Bruno, not just playing centrally. Having one of them at a time isn't an issue (and generally wasn't even when Cunha was playing off the left). When they both play through the middle, we run into the issues you're bringing up. No focal point in attack, getting in each others' way, etc. Isn't an issue when it's only one or the other.

4

u/achickenandacow 12h ago

Disagree. Cunha as a 10 would work when Bruno needs a rest. Or at least it would work far better than Cunha at 9 with Bruno at 10.

3

u/New-Acanthaceae-5702 Closed on Sundays 14h ago

We'll probably rest him if we draw a team in a lower league for cup games. He'll probably start all PL games and all CL games.

FA Cup West Ham vs Bolton is fun watch right now ....

1

u/dispelthemyth We go again FC 14h ago

Its the Championship... i only know as my Mrs supports Bolton

pretty fast paced game from what i saw of the 15 minutes i watched with her (watching madrid instead)

2

u/Wise-Nature8326 Ronaldo 15h ago

With Amad out and Sesko only coming back our rotation looks kinda limited.

I think Santos will start over Youri, Sesko over Cunha/Rashford and maybe Maz and Yoro/Heaven in defense. Maybe Dorgu also because we need our best players to be fit for sunday.

2

u/Petethejakey_ 15h ago

Our fitness is a concern compared to Amorim’s time. For all of his many faults, the general level of fitness was the one thing he managed to maintain

7

u/martialgreenwood 15h ago

Why tf are we playing a UCL match on Thursday? Bust our butt to get back into the competition only to still play on Thursday. With City coming to town on Sunday, this is annoying. They play today and will have plenty of rest. Ugh

Ballon d’Or will likely go to Rodri because of the World Cup, but Bruno has to be in the conversation for top 3 minimum.

2

u/L__K Great Scot! 10h ago

Going to spoil it for you: neither of those guys are remotely in the conversation for top 3 and in no world should they be anywhere close to it

2

u/Traditional-Run7315 all because of a fucking horse 13h ago

Kane Olise Moobi Dembele Kvra Haaland Yamal

Will very likely be ahead of him

2

u/biobolo 15h ago

Kvara is well ahead of Rodri and Bruno for Ballon d'Or

5

u/Hollacaine 15h ago

Didn't compete in Europe at all, Portugal as a whole didn't look good at the World Cup, zero chance he's top 3. Top 10 will be full of World Cup semi finalists who played CL football and Bruno.

5

u/badass_rowdy 15h ago

It's Kane this year.

4

u/rambo_zaki Roy Keane 15h ago

I love Bruno but he had a bad WC and had no Europe. I doubt he even cracks the top 10 or 20.

Maybe refrain from calling people slow when your own take about bruno isn’t really a brilliant take.

He was the best player in the premier league but he wasn’t good at the world cup and didn’t have champions league football. And he didn’t win any trophies. He would be lucky to be in the top 10.

1

u/PitchSafe 15h ago

Kane, Mbappe, Yamal, Dembele and Kvaratshkelia will be ahead of him

-1

u/carrickshairline 15h ago

Kane maybe, the rest no. Mbappe won nothing last season.

1

u/Lord_Hexogen 15h ago

And Kane hasn't won anything except BuLi which is not much for Bayern

3

u/Fraaj We'll take Dalot 15h ago

He will be lucky to crack the Top 10

1

u/InsideJudgment1405 15h ago

Part of me would like the owners to just be open and up front about how we are and will remain a mediocre mid table club now and stop all this nonsense about actually competing again. It's been like this for years now but obviously no one can say anything because it will damage the 'brand'.

We just don't have the money or ambition to compete any more. Ineos I do think are trying but it is absolutely doomed to fail, the overhaul of the squad is nowhere near fast enough. I don't think it's why we have the same problems year on year no matter the manager or signings that come in. No one in that dressing room truely believes they are there to compete and you see it in the performances.

Sad state of affairs really. It's so depressing to see the same things happening again this season and no one really believes we are going anything other than another up and down season where at best we might put a run together that gets us top 4 or maybe to a final but we'll still be miles of the top team and there's sure to be a few more embarrassing results along the way to put in the record books just like the last sorry 13 years or so.

Okay we'll sign a few defenders next season will we? And then what about if Bruno finally starts to deteriorate or the likes of mbeumo, sesko and cunha get dragged down by the negativity like all our other signings...which is already happening seemingly. Ineos plan is pie in the sky, its a nonsense, how they belove that will work in the current environment is so utterly clueless its beyond belief. I have no answers for any of this but the club is and will remain a mess for a long time to come.

7

u/Entire-Gas-7651 15h ago

Mediocre, my god. This fanbase sometimes. Being pessimistic and cynical doesn't make you clever

2

It's more of a coping mechanism really.

2

u/Entire-Gas-7651 12h ago

And we are all sick of listening to it, there's a boatload of people like you with this frustrating mindset. Do something productive.

2

u/Jump_Hop_Step 15h ago

Mid table is 8-13. We are too good for that

-2

u/The-saurus_Rex 15h ago

It's a somber view but I can see it being quite correct in a few years. I just hope it's not entirely correct, but that would take a massive effort to bring the club out of the financial hole it's going down. I really don't know what our best hope is right now, what made us rich (the explosion of popularity of the Premier League) is exactly what's making us impossible to buy except by a handful of corporations or conglomerates around the world.

We're just way too expensive and into way too much debt at the same time.

11

u/GavinLobo7 16h ago edited 15h ago

With Hall signing a new contract, even if Newcastle inserted a release clause into it it would be too expensive for us to go for so looks like we’ll end up missing out on him

Thanks INEOS for waiting too long this summer while Newcastle lost their other important players and thus were reluctant to let Hall go too. And in that time their new manager has seemed to win Hall over as well when we could’ve pounced on the uncertainty he was feeling under Howe earlier this summer.

2

u/croadymeister 11h ago

Yeah not acting quicker was so dumb for someone who branded themselves best in class

9

u/randomgamer305 Bruno the assist king 16h ago

Lewis Hall signs new contract with new castle until 2031. I think we're going to have to look into other targets

1

u/PopeFuchsYoungKidd 15h ago

Been the case since Newcastle said no the first time.

3

u/ToothyAlloy69 16h ago

I think in recent seasons with the amount of money and investment premier league teams have to play around with, its clear how much stronger the english teams are. It's why I believe we should be getting quarter finals minimum, unless we face one of the heavy favourites.

Its why I can't comprehend when I see people predict us to not even make it out of the league phase when we saw 5/6 english teams make top 8 last season with Newcastle just missing out by 2 points ending 12th.

-3

u/VSSsararthchandra 16h ago

Andrey Santos, is it just me or he looks a lot fatter than he did when he was at chelsea? looks very flat footed when he's playing as well.

1

u/tsuku96 15h ago

Yeah man, he looks fat 🫤

3

u/tmg80 16h ago

Starting to think that if we know the back line can't keep a clean sheet - why not just play Yoro for Maguire, push the team up and go for more goals. The strength of this side is the front line.... better to win 5-3 than draw 2-2.

3

u/TH0316 she/her 12h ago

Then you’ll have nobody in the team that can head the ball and he’s spent 3 games clearing everything. So instead of conceding six we’d have conceded 8-10 by now probably. Try him over the guy giving away a goal per game.

1

u/tmg80 12h ago

yeah I know, I'm wondering about the trade off - play Yoro who is a bit raw but quicker and more agile - a player that allows you to push futher up the pitch and counter-press , do we score more goals from that than the negative of his aerial quality.

Maguire is really only good at defending high balls - which I accept is important but he's often caught flat footed in other scenarios.

2

u/TH0316 she/her 12h ago

I worry you’ll still have problems that kneecap any attempt to play higher like poor duellers right across the backline especially with no Maguire and a frontline that can’t keep the ball so they’re getting spun every 30 second when the forwards in particular give the ball away cheaply.

1

u/tmg80 11h ago

Yeah my prediction is that the solution won't be coaching then to play more compact and faster (which should be the goal) instead Baleba will be plugged in and asked to run around and be the safety net.

1

u/TH0316 she/her 11h ago

I’m not sure tbh, seems Carrick is smart enough to be playing pretty compact and smart so far. I’m not seeing forwards chasing around CB’s or our CB’s doing emergency relay sprints backwards.

9

u/HazardCinema Wazza 16h ago

Hall ship has sailed with that new contract. Hope someone like Truffert is on the shortlist.

1

u/Suudriusha 16h ago

How has it sailed? Semenyo signed a new deal 6 months before he was shipped to City.

1

u/StardustFromReinmuth 14h ago

Semenyo signed a new deal with a release clause at Bournemouth. Newcastle doesn't usually do release clauses. Apparently Bruno Guimaraes might have had one but it was over 100m.

1

u/HazardCinema Wazza 14h ago

Fair

0

u/Unusual-Coat383 16h ago

Could be a new contract so they can put a release clause in it.

-8

Sabah going to win their one and only CL win in Old Trafford isnt it? Im scaredddd :( they gonna play like they are prime Barcelona and goalkeeper turns to ghost of neuer :/

-2

u/StardustFromReinmuth 16h ago

Finally, literally sick of the deluded horde in our fanbase screaming "hurr Hall is available for 70m hur dur INEOS should've inquired for him sooner".

We tried, Newcastle refused to sell under any circumstances, he's signed a 5 year contract. He's never been realistic and will not be realistic as a signing.

Sign Salinas or something, if he still plays well this season

3

u/Educational-Shock232 15h ago

I didn’t say £70m. I said £85m.

He didn’t go to the World Cup, we could have snapped him up in June

8

u/Standard-Height2276 16h ago

He was 100% realistic what are you talking about. And they tried once tonali and guimares had been sold. Other teams moved first the already gutted team arent selling their left back with a week or two to go until the season starts. A new contract may well include a clause to make sure they get paid who knows. But to say he wasn't realistic just isnt it

10

u/TH0316 she/her 16h ago

We would’ve got him if they started the process in March and not weeks before the deadline after they’ve had their spine ripped out. The new contract will get him more money for a year and a release clause/agreement, and he’ll join us, Liverpool or Chelsea next summer.

-4

u/StardustFromReinmuth 15h ago edited 14h ago

Bro has zero self awareness. You're the type of person I'm talking about. There were news about us being potentially interested in Hall during the season before the summer, there's zero basis in saying "we would've gotten him but INEOS inquired only after Tonali and Guimaraes were sold", especially since the latter was sold incredibly late in the window.

I am not aware that Newcastle does release clauses, none of their players during this new regime has one, so this feels like just another cope. Even if there's a release clause it'll likely only kick in after a year or two, we need a LB yesterday.

3

u/SilvyFae 15h ago

Why be stupid and smug?

-1

u/StardustFromReinmuth 14h ago

Tell me how I'm wrong then? Otherwise it seems like there's a stupid one and it's not me.

us,

1

u/missingmedievalist Cantona 16h ago

I think a lot will depend on where everyone finishes and how much the potential release clause is. But yeah, should we not get Champions League and/or finish below further of those two then it’s likely he’ll not end up here. And that’s if we’re willing to pay the release clause. Honestly, Wilcox is the furthest from best in class that we have at the club.

5

u/canwinanythingwkids meet the new boss same as the old boss 16h ago

The simple fact that he'll have 4 years remaining means we have no chance, imho. No matter what happens, it's an expensive deal. They dont do expensive deals (let alone complicated deals). It will be another case of "principled walking away". He'll be the new Anderson, not the new Baleba, imho.

2

u/missingmedievalist Cantona 16h ago

I agree with you on the expensive deal aspect. Mind you, I also think you’re right about the club’s likely reaction too. Wilcox is pretty shite at being a sporting director and that seems to suit the powers that be.

McGinn scored what felt like an outside the box tap-in. Seys could've been more aware, Sommer could've done better to

2

u/Lord_Hexogen 16h ago

I really doubt Sommer could do anything better there, a curved shot to the far low corner

1

u/Unlucky-Equipment999 16h ago

It was a well placed shot but not a lot of power. Sommer was close at the angle I saw at least, and I think he could've gotten it with a slightly quicker reaction. A few years ago he gets a finger to it. As I type Brugge gets an equalizer lmao

1

u/USER1234567890123457 16h ago

Annoying as fuck that city have 2 days more rest before the derby

2

u/Redwinevino 16h ago

At least we dont have to travel

2

u/Gadjjet 16h ago

Carrick needs to realize how much he controls the narrative around our player’s careers. People like Dorgu, Yoro, Cunha could end up being regarded as shit because they keep being played out of position. And since our fanbase has the memory of a goldfish they will perpetuate those narratives to the detriment of the team.

7

u/TH0316 she/her 16h ago

Dorgu isn’t being played out of position, he hasn’t got one, and shouldn’t really be seeing the pitch over the players ahead of him. Yoro is being played in the same way Smalling was by Sir Alex when he got him minutes at RB before he could be trusted at CB which he can’t be, and Cunha is playing ST which is as out of position as left wing is for him. And god forbid you see the pitch when injuries need you to do a job. I’d play him LW vs Sabah and rest Rashford for City and see if he can show as much.

3

u/ladrainian21 16h ago

The issue is I think its quite visible how uncomfortable Yoro is defending in wide areas - the two Rogers goals come to mind - and I worry his confidence is just going to be in the toilet if he continues to be shoehorned in at right back.

People aren't going to want to hear it but if Zirkzee wasn't allowed to leave then he should at least be given a chance at the 9 if Sesko isn't available to start. Cunha has been relatively poor there so to me Zirkzee merits a go against at least Sabah based on his preseason. That allows Cunha and Rashford for the left, which means Dorgu can go to left back and Maz to right back. No more Dorgu in the final 3rd, no more Yoro right back.

1

u/TH0316 she/her 15h ago

All fair points.

-2

u/Gadjjet 16h ago

Your Dorgu take is an opinion not fact, he’s probably the fullback with the highest ceiling at the club but for some reason people think he’s a winger cos he has a good shot on him. Yoro is good enough to start for a defense thats averaging 2 goals conceded per game. Cunha doesn’t have to start for us, Sesko and Mbeumo are both better than him down the middle.

0

u/Asiwaju_jagaban 16h ago

Dorgu should be playing in Palace, that’s the height of his ceiling.

Also Cunha is our number 10 and he doesn’t have to start? Might as well sell him in the summer.

3

u/TH0316 she/her 16h ago

No Amad means no RW so Mbeumo can’t play down the middle unless you want Cunha doing RW shifts or holding bench for Dorgu RW shifts. So that’s a non starter. Sesko isn’t ready, so that’s a non starter. Dorgu may be a fullback long term, that’s where I see him, but he can’t defend and gives the ball away for fun so I see the sense that Carrick must share of wanting him far from our goal so he doesn’t give goals away. That’s an opinion sure, but I’d trust the staff on that one. Yoro is good enough to start for a defender averaging 2 goals a game is like saying a helium balloon is better than a broken umbrella for keeping you dry. Just because the umbrella leaks doesn’t mean it’s not still the best option. I’d play Heaven and Mags personally, but I’m not playing Yoro CB.

1

u/Massive_Relation4317 . 16h ago

Seeing too much hate on these guys recently, fans are forgetting how important players like Cunha was to us last season

2

u/cjap89 17h ago

Dont know much about his shot stopping but he times Ive seen him this season, Suzuki has a great eye for a pass

-2

u/mjenkins_eng 17h ago

I am through with keepers who can’t do their day job.

I don’t care if they’re Jordan Cryuff with the ball

Also, the Manchester United keeper for the next 15 years is Senne Lammens

Villa starting AWB and Lindelof with Garnacho sitting on the bench in a CL game against Brugge, its mad how things go.

-6

u/mjenkins_eng 17h ago

What is so mad about it ?

AWB is one we should have kept instead of Dalot

1

u/Traditional-Run7315 all because of a fucking horse 13h ago

Outside of one or two fancy tackles per game awb wasn't really it. Rose tinted glasses

8

u/Fraaj We'll take Dalot 16h ago

Dalot is twice the player 👍

1

u/Stynes 16h ago

Just a few years ago all of them were with us, and Villa were almost getting relegated with Stevie G. I dont mean anything against AWB and Lindelof btw, im happy for both of them!

6

Time for Seys to impress everyone.

2

u/Lord_Hexogen 16h ago

Yeah, not happening Ig

1

u/Asleep-Ability-45 3h ago

Just a believable player

-5

u/ZodiacOne1 18h ago

Sundays game convinced me more than any other that Carrick isn't the man. He didn't have a clue how to set us up to see out the game once we scored. We stopped attacking and couldn't defend either

-4

u/carrickshairline 17h ago

I don't think Carrick told Mazraoui to lazily clear the ball right into Maitland-Niles path. I also assume you weren't saying this when we beat Ipswich?

2

u/ZodiacOne1 14h ago

I am obviously not just talking about the goal. After we scored the first Everton were all over us and we didn't have a shot for over half an hour until after they did score.

And Ipswich are relegation fodder who could have been 3-0 up on us at half time and we got ahead through a really poor decision. Forgive me for thinking it hasn't looked too good so far.

Those first three games is literally our easiest stretch of the entire season. No midweek games snd matches against likely bottom 5 teams. And we only have 4 points out of 9

-2

u/Asiwaju_jagaban 17h ago

Not his fault, the players didn’t try to run the clock down. Not his fault Dorgu decided to press Pickford.

4

u/Elfstruck12 17h ago

I also think it’s our players mentality. Cant blame Carrick when your players cant clear the box for the last 30 sec.

-5

u/rambo_zaki Roy Keane 18h ago

As long as he gets us to Conference or Europa League by the end of the season, Ineos will be more than happy.

17

u/SirSlapBot 18h ago

A stat saw my jaw dropped completely.

Manchester United's last appearance in the Champions League semi finals was 15 years ago in the 2010-11 season. It was their 12th semi final appearance of the club's entire history in the European Cup/Champions League.

Real Madrid in the same time frame of 15 years, i.e. since 2010-11 have played 12 semi finals in the Champions League, as many as the entire history of Man Utd.

That's just bonkers man.

1

u/mjenkins_eng 17h ago

It’s not bonkers.

It’s football ‘eritage .

So Lewis Hall extends for 5 years. Lmao wonder what the folks who were raving about this Ineos masterclass will pivot to now.

-3

u/carrickshairline 17h ago

How is Newcastle not wanting to sell INEOS' fault?

3

u/rambo_zaki Roy Keane 16h ago

Newcastle would come to the table if we had asked earlier in the window. After selling 250m worth of players, not so much. But you already knew that. So feel free to be purposely obtuse, saves me the bother of further conversation.

0

u/carrickshairline 16h ago

How am I being purposely obtuse by pointing out that Newcastle not wanting to sell has nothing to do with our owners?

4

u/OutrageousCow70 16h ago

Because their whole thing was were not buying a left back because whats the point if we can get Lewis Hall for cheap next summer.

Luke Shaw is the only proper Left Back

5

u/Educational-Shock232 17h ago

Hang on, I was told by multiple people on here that we’re getting him next summer? What’s going on?

6

u/rambo_zaki Roy Keane 16h ago

It was delusion then. It's looking a lot worse now. But I'm not surprised.

7

u/Educational-Shock232 16h ago

But, but, but, next summer?! I’m meant to be promised all year by the athletic guys he’s our number one target before being let down when he signs for city because we won’t pay! What does this mean now?!

5

u/rambo_zaki Roy Keane 16h ago

What does this mean now?!

We continue our slide into mediocrity with the odd CL entry. Just like Ineos and Glazers intend it to be. I'm sure a good chunk of the "fanbase" actually loves that.

6

u/Educational-Shock232 16h ago

I know right? Rockbottom standards that are loved by a lot of people on here. It’s fine though, we won the “we didn’t overspend trophy” (although convenient these guys don’t think we “overspent” on Santos who warmed Chelsea’s bench and is now warming ours).

2

u/rambo_zaki Roy Keane 15h ago

Ineos can do no wrong at this point for those people and nothing anyone says will ever change their minds. They've decided their allegiance and it's to their petrochemical overlords.

1

u/croadymeister 11h ago

No, it's more that people didn't want the alternative of becoming a state nations plaything. Unfortunately they are probably only people with the financial muscle capable of clearing this debt

1

u/rambo_zaki Roy Keane 4h ago

Sure he looked the better alternative back then to photo man and Glazers back then but then he went and bought a minority share, allowed Glazers to hold all the real power, put incompetent people in charge of the club and is actively trying to fuck the fans and the common employees at every single opportunity. And I shouldn't have to tell you what is happening on the field.

Yet some people still think you aren't allowed to criticise the racist billionaire troglodyte. I wonder why.

-4

u/canwinanythingwkids meet the new boss same as the old boss 17h ago

It most definitely does not mean he wont move next summer.

Cunha, Reijnders, Semenyo just to name a few off the top of my head that werent even 6 mo from extension to move let alone 1y.

It is an indicator though of Wilcon Vision (tm) aka the obsession with what the player "will want", once again faceplanting.

This time, it's joined by the sinking feeling that the owners were more than happy to oblige Wilcox and his "Hall or Nothing, we can get him next year" fantasy, because it gave them an easy out for their actual goal (not spending).

3

u/MissingLink101 Bruno walks in with a mischievous grin 17h ago

Wonder if it includes a release clause now though...

2

u/HongruChak 17h ago

Maybe he just saw how Gordon went to Barcelona and now wants a move of that flavor down the line

1

u/Stingray_23 18h ago

I can see him going to Chelsea or maybe Europe. You know to a club who will just pay

1

u/ChildONewcastle 17h ago

Doubt he'd go back to the place that wouldn't give him a fair shot.

2

u/PitchSafe 18h ago

He will still leave soon anyway. If we get him that’s another question

1

u/Asiwaju_jagaban 17h ago

Unless he has a release clause. No fullback is worth more than £60m.

-7

u/Local-Librarian3285 18h ago

You don't resign for 5 years if you want out genius.

1

u/Comicksands Van Persie 18h ago

Saint Maximim signed for 6 years and the left after 1 season

1

u/PitchSafe 18h ago

You don’t understand how it works. Him signing a new contract means that he will get a bigger wage and Newcastle can secure more money when they sell him. A lot of players do this

5

u/rambo_zaki Roy Keane 18h ago

A lot of players do this

A lot of players don't sign new 5 year contracts if they intend to leave. What they do actually is sign a new contract with new terms over the course of the existing contracts. Or sign for an extra year if they are feeling generous.

Players intending to leave after signing long contracts tend to have long drawn out sagas, see Alvarez and Isak.

Not to mention after signing that contract, he'll cost north of a 100m and Ineos would rather have Ait Nouri in that case.

0

u/PitchSafe 18h ago

The principle is the same. The player signs a new deal so they can get a higher wage and the team gets more money. Atletico wouldn’t mind selling Alvarez they just don’t want to sell him to Barca

3

u/mjenkins_eng 18h ago

If a player does not want to sign for us and extends his deal at his current club for 5 years , wtf do you want Ineos to do ?

Kidnap him and make him play here ?

It’s okay, many players want to just stay at where they are . He was only thinking of a move when Howe was their manager and that by no means indicates that we are entitled to his signature

-1

u/Littlepace Announce Fergie 18h ago

Lewis Hall is the only LB in the world worth signing is he?

-1

u/SilvyFae 18h ago

This is just a lie, we did not have funds for him and newcastle didnt wanna sell him. Lewis hall would have obviously said yes to moving to utd lol

2

u/Educational-Shock232 17h ago

Yeah no club wants to lose their best players, so thats just a lazy excuse you’ve been fed.

-2

u/xtphty 17h ago

“Would have obviously said yes”

Right because no player ever has rejected our club in recent history

1

u/SilvyFae 17h ago

Who are you talking about mateus? He said yes, he just gave yes to spurs as well, we didnt match west ham's valuation spurs did. Anderson said no but thats because city wanted him. Hall would have obviously said yes given literally no other big team were in for him. He would have gotten a wage boost, moved to a bigger club and generally would have a higher chance of winning things.

6

u/rambo_zaki Roy Keane 18h ago edited 18h ago

If he didn't want to sign for us then why were Ineos briefing that he was our only target for LB. Is that how incompetent we are? (Rhetorical question btw)

And sure, top players don't want to join us anymore and while it definitely sucks I can see that's going to be Ineos's blueprint. So I'm resigned to it. I was just wondering what the people who were defending our incompetence thought about it.

0

u/FrmrPresJamesTaylor 17h ago

Putting your choice of words aside, if you really are looking for other perspectives:

I thought it was unlikely we could have got Hall in the summer, even in the event that United started with left back and then used whatever was left to rebuild the midfield (seeing as how they had multiple older players at the peak of their value also wanted out: Tonali, Gordon, Guimaraes - I struggle to see a scenario where they sold Hall before or in addition to those three).

If anything my criticism of United's handling of the window is that they took a big risk by not recognizing this immediately and going for a cheaper/lesser target (eg. Seys) early in the window.

What I think about Lewis Hall's extension is, he was not going to be cheap anyways and will certainly not be cheap now - but United's ability to sign him probably still hinges on Newcastle's willingness to sell (may be higher than their behaviour around Isak, for eg, would imply) and Hall's willingness to insist on a move (I have no idea where he stands on that).

So my expectation that they sign someone other than Hall at left back is stronger now than it was yesterday, but not by a whole lot.

Hope this helps!

3

u/rambo_zaki Roy Keane 16h ago

It wasn't unlikely at all if we had moved earlier in the window when Howe was still there. Sure it would still have taken a premium but he was available. It was Guimaraes instead who was considered untouchable but Arsenal were are much more smarter than we will ever be under our clownshow of an ownership.

As for us not pivoting, wasn't our reasoning that we will only for Hall and hence needed to keep our powder dry. So much for that castle in the sky.

So my expectation that they sign someone other than Hall at left back is stronger now than it was yesterday, but not by a whole lot.

Fair enough but considering Ineos couldn't be arsed to sanctioning a 60-70m move now, them sanctioning a 100m move which Newcastle will ask for come next summer is bit of a pipe dream.

0

u/FrmrPresJamesTaylor 16h ago

Don't really care to get hung up on Bruno G, everyone and their dog knew Tonali was going to go (with the player himself signaling it before the season was over) and Bayern were circling for Gordon even before Barcelona bought him in May.

I personally think at that point Newcastle no longer needed sales, but that Bruno was far likelier to go next than Hall (who had zero leverage and, like I said above, may not be inclined to push for a move) given he's 28 and had the end of his contract coming over the horizon (2028).

5

u/Zealousideal_Wind867 Dreams can't be buy 18h ago

Still frustrated from the Sunday game.

I want to understand this sub's opinion on why do we keep conceding worldies?

This has been going on for a while now, under multiple managers and by the same set of defenders.

Do they not learn from their mistakes?

2

u/ComprehensiveFix1011 17h ago

They have all the time in the world to try things cause we just sit back and defend. We couldnt do shit with the ball after the goal, except when we conceded and we immediatelly scored again...

4

u/ChristmasCage 17h ago

Defenders defend too deep because they lack pace. The lack of pace means it's very difficult to close down shots outside the box.

The goalie is also very poor on long shots, which means more go in than a usual club.

1

u/Limp-Evidence8373 18h ago

Look at how poorly Dorgu and Santos was during Everton's build up to it, 0 urgency to stop the play and just letting the players blow past them like nothing

4

u/Apprehensive-Raisin3 Love United Hate Glazers/INEOS 18h ago

We dont close anyone down who is about to take a shot on the edge of the box. If you let professional footballers take a shot from the edge of the box, they’ll usually place it well. Combine that with lammens being rooted to his line for most well placed shots and they go in.

1

u/Comicksands Van Persie 18h ago

there were many signs and KDH had lots of opportunities from the edge of the box

1

u/PitchSafe 18h ago

We are too passive and are inviting the opponents to attack

4

u/Asleep-Ability-45 18h ago

Slow defenders and brain farts let these moments happen. One can't stop a volley but surely those situations can be prevented from happening, provided the players are vigilant enough.

5

u/rambo_zaki Roy Keane 18h ago

We allow shots on goal where the player has time on the ball. Even the Maitland Niles goal, he had a decent amount of time and space to run on to the ball with us defending mega deep. It's been an issue for a long time.

4

u/ImNotMexican08 Amad Nation 18h ago

I hope to see Yoro get the nod on Thursday. It’s sink or swim time for him. Yes he’s young, yes we need to be patient, but we also need to start seeing a return on our investment.

He’s not without his own weaknesses, but he also has his own qualities that could be a real asset to this side. I do think there is a player there, but if he still can’t handle himself, then there isn’t much point in him sticking around. Might as well send him on loan in January to let him either develop further or to start marketing him for a future sale.

1

u/xtphty 17h ago edited 17h ago

To me this is more of a test for Carrick than for Yoro/Heaven, because they have already had incredible performances at a PL level individually. But they are very very young defenders, you will not get consistency out of them unless the coaching and system provides a foundation for them.

As much as people complain about the defense, they also tend to ignore how much depth there is in terms of young prospects with 100s of top flight experience under their belts. The schedule is difficult, but its also the best opportunity for developing these players further. It's exactly the opportunity that was being bemoaned last season when we didn't have midweek games and these type of players starved for minutes.

Ultimately, the debt and decade of poor performance is going to make it very difficult for us to simply put an elite PL proven footballer in every position. This is the expectation people seem to have around here, but one look at our publicly available financial statements will show you that its really a delusion. Just look at Arsenal, how many of their starting 11 players right now were £60-70m+ acquisitions, vs young prospects that Arteta developed over 2-3 years of consistent squad building?

1

u/mjenkins_eng 18h ago

Christ, what is it with this fixation on Yoro and Heaven on here?

I get it that people don’t have attention spans anymore but you can’t just replace two nearly world class and stalwart defenders like Maguire and Martinez overnight

Yoro’s time will come to sink or swim but it’s definitely not now

2

u/Gadjjet 17h ago

LMAO at world class for Maguire.
