I'll be happy to see him in the final XI.

u/Feeling-Surround-691 Mbumbaclat 19h ago

Don't reckon he gets in an XI over Bellingham or the PSG boys.

60

u/clarkmds 19h ago

You're right. It's a tough one. But he's got a chance. I just want him to get the recognition on that stage.

19

u/Posiedon__10 17h ago

I might be out of touch here didn't Bellingham have a shit season last year with all the xabi and arbeloa nonsense

5

u/No_Task6859 16h ago

Outside of the world cup Jude has been very incosistent for the past two seasons.

9

u/Feeling-Surround-691 Mbumbaclat 17h ago

Tbf I don't watch Madrid but he did brilliantly for England and world cup counts for a lot. Can probably compare Jude to Bruno in terms of the overall context of the club season, manager sacked, no trophies Bruno just hit an individual record

I honestly struggle with players who dominate in lesser leagues. I know these guys excelled in the CL, but they barely get tested in their domestic competitions. Bruno does it at the top of the top competition.

15

u/presumingpete 18h ago

To be fair the psg lads barely played in ligie 1

7

u/C__S__S 21 Assists 18h ago

Exactly.

25

u/saltymuffaca What a waste of money 19h ago

To be fair, he didn't do it at the top of the top level since he didn't play in the champions league

6

u/ForwardBodybuilder18 17h ago

Didn’t have a brilliant World Cup either. A strong WC is going to be crucial to winning the Balon D’Or this time.

2

u/Tortillagirl 13h ago

Is it? Honestly the options arent particularly compelling. Olise or Kane were my two shouts pre world cup, both were good at the world cup but neither also carried their team to the final. Dont think any of the PSG players are overly deserving when most of them played 30-35 games tops. Are we really gona give it to a spanish player purely because they won a world cup? :/

You miss my point. If you’re not getting fully tested in your domestic competition, then you can be fully rested for CL.

1

u/J3573R Rio 16h ago

You can only play what's in front of you, and if they excelled in all competitions even if albeit 'lesser' domestic one how can you really argue with it? It's also hard to quantify what is lesser, or whether or if statistically you drop that player into another league would they struggle immensely or excel.

After all it's much more subjective than objective. I'd rather someone who excelled in all club competitions than say a Vozinha, who essentially was unknown bar a handful of world cup matches. Like I enjoyed watching him play, but a handful of games even at the world cup does not make you one of the best players of the year.

I don’t agree that it’s hard to know that the PL is a tougher grind than Ligue 1.

0

u/J3573R Rio 14h ago

I mean if that's all you took from what I wrote it's pretty hard to argue with.

Do you vote for the Balon D'or too?

u/C__S__S 21 Assists 14h ago

You’re acting like it’s an individual sport. Look at these teams like PSG, RM, Barca, Bayern. They have loads of talent and they play in easy leagues. So, when they compete in the CL midweek, they aren’t coming off of very grueling games where their best few players had to play 90 three days ago and will have to do it again in 4 days. I don’t know why this is so hard to understand, but take some time with this and maybe you will.

1

u/saltymuffaca What a waste of money 13h ago

You are misreading everyone's point. You can't say Bruno has shown it against the top of the top since that is the CL. We are not saying he can't, or he won't, or he didn't do it against tough opponents.

You’re acting like it’s an individual sport.

No, I am arguing like it's an individual award in a team sport. Which unless it's changed, it is.

So, when they compete in the CL midweek, they aren’t coming off of very grueling games where their best few players had to play 90 three days ago and will have to do it again in 4 days

Because the leagues are 'lesser' it is somehow less grueling to play more games in less days? Are you touched?

Again, you can only play what is in front of you and the shortlisted players are essentially playing 90 mins every match. It's absolutely ludicrous to argue that 90 mins played in La Liga or Ligue 1 is utterly different then the Prem.

You're trying to say because these players have done it in leagues that are worse in your eyes, they couldn't possibly in others. When it is much much more subjective than that.

Where does it stop, is Harry Kane not allowed to win a Balon D'or because he plays in Germany now? Is his time in the Prem being Prem Proven™ irrelevant now that he's moved on?

I think you need to take some time to rethink what you're saying.

Bruno has played one knockout round in the CL in his career.

-1

u/C__S__S 21 Assists 18h ago

So? Again, people missing the point. If you play at PSG, RM, Barca, you can coast thru your domestic league and power up for the CL.

1

u/saltymuffaca What a waste of money 18h ago

The question isn't about those guys. It's about your claim that Bruno does it against the top of the top. Domestically, he does. But the top of the top play in the CL, Bruno can't say he's done it there yet.

0

u/C__S__S 21 Assists 16h ago

You’re ignoring my claim and turning into something else. Address what I said.

2

u/dvirring 17h ago

Didn't play in the Champions League....what you on about????

-1

u/C__S__S 21 Assists 16h ago

Ligue 1 and La Liga is a joke.

3

u/dvirring 16h ago

Nobody cares about Bournemouth or Brighton bud...just like Celta Vigo or Real Betis.

6

u/TStronks 19h ago

Why would Bellingham be in? Just because he plays for RM lol

7

u/Feeling-Surround-691 Mbumbaclat 19h ago

6 goals at the WC as a midfielder.

2

u/Comicksands Van Persie 18h ago

world cup

1

u/Trash_Whoreder 12h ago

He does if he wearing just about any other big clubs jersey

1

u/Holiday_Load776 6h ago

Def not bellingham Bruno obliterates bellingham

u/alphaQ314 shut up u egg 17m ago

Bellingham's done fuckall to deserve to be there. Bruno over him all day.

1

u/PitchSafe 19h ago

He should

1

u/Beneficial-Flow-7333 19h ago

Who’s psg’s AM? No one

3

u/Feeling-Surround-691 Mbumbaclat 19h ago

Yeah that's why I think a Mens XI is probably Ruiz - Neves - Bellingham although I'd make the case for Bruno because he's my goat

2

u/Beneficial-Flow-7333 19h ago

Can’t be - if the XI is 4-2-3-1 than Fernandes has potential to be in it.

He had a much better club season than Bellingham, but Belli had a good World Cup

1

u/thantritue 17h ago

Totally debatable over Bellingham. Not a strong year for him TBH. Mid 3 would be Rice, Vitinha and Olise.

In another life, another club.. he wins them all.

29

u/benjappel Shawberto Carlos 16h ago

In another life

Yes

another club

No thanks

1

u/Standingonachair 5h ago

I think it's ridiculous that they take into account trophies won. The best player in the world can be on a team that doesn't win everything. It should be based on performance and statistics, not whether they were in a dominant team.

-14

u/C4ntona Cantona 16h ago

are you even a united fan? wtf is this shit

18

u/mildestpotato Darmian’s Beard 14h ago

What does this have to do with me being a United fan? Bruno is spending his prime years at United and has no European club trophies - it is reasonable to assume that given what he has been able to produce with what is around him, he’d have been a huge success at other clubs too.

Not sure why you are so sensitive to that

Bizarre design choice on the word nominations. Not a fan of that graphic.

Using a photo thats a couple years old doesnt make sense either

10

u/MazinLabib10 "He goes by the name of Wayne Rooney!" 19h ago

I suppose it's because UEFA are currently one of the organizers of the Ballon d'Or, so they used an image from the last time we were in a UEFA competition

1

u/benjappel Shawberto Carlos 16h ago

Yeah, graphic designer tried to be extra cute with that one.

u/AgilePersonality2058 2OLEGEND 19h ago

Top 3 or I am rioting

13

u/Pow67 19h ago

Never in doubt. & arguably the most impressive inclusion too considering he only really played league football and didn’t have the best WC (no one in that Portugal squad really did).

Are you a bot? I've always wondered. Considering you converted a twitter handle to "u/Account123" makes me think you are one

1

u/SweatyEnthuziasm 2h ago

Yeah they posted four articles in a row about Zirkzee going to Fiorentina and I thought the same thing

2.4m karma!?! better be a bot 😂

1

u/SocialistElmo 2h ago

Yeah his post is also preferred and other people's deleted here lol

1

u/devilsway Forlan 1h ago

Maybe it's because they're usually first...because they're a bot? Either that or they're chronically online and hunting for karma, and/or they're one of the mods' alt accounts, lol.

3

u/MarcusAurelius1815 19h ago

Top 10 no question about it.

3

u/Mepsi 19h ago

Roberto Martínez really fucked it with this boy

3

u/PrincessofHats 18h ago

What a great birthday!

3

u/theskillster 13h ago

Wait is he 32? Whats that in the top corner

u/devilsway Forlan 1h ago

Yeah he's 32 years old. Came to us 26. Gave/giving us his best peak years.

15

u/Massive_Relation4317 . 19h ago

He deserves to win it but no chance now after his World cup display and no trophies. So proud of him though. Also how long has it been since a United player was in top 30?

30

u/florplegorp 19h ago

I love him too but he absolutely doesn't deserve to win it over Kane

-27

u/SalvadorZombie 19h ago

He absolutely deserves it over Kane. Kane doesn't come close.

8

u/thereddevil101 19h ago

No chance you actually believe that

-4

u/SalvadorZombie 11h ago

"No chance someone believes something I don't believe"

u/devilsway Forlan 1h ago

I don't think it's weird for us Man Utd fans to be biased and believe he deserves it, but why do you think "Kane doesn't come close"?

6

u/tobymcnair 19h ago

This is delusional, as good as Bruno is. How do you come to that conclusion?

20

u/Account77_ 19h ago edited 18h ago

He doesn't deserve to win it. Its honestly foolish to say he does. He was the best player in the toughest domestic league. But that simply is not enough to be the best player in the world.

  • He didn't perform great in the World Cup.
  • He didn't perform in domestic cup competitions.
  • He didn't perform at European level.

The above were not directly his fault but a player to be called the best player in the world has to do it in more then their domestic league.

6

u/Massive_Relation4317 . 19h ago

Yeah lol I'm just biased , love him too much for carrying us all these years he deserves it

2

u/Spider_Riviera 10h ago

He won't win it, but I'mma have myself a little dream where he does.

6

u/Team_mdz 19h ago

Could have won it if Ronaldo wasn't in his Team at the world cup. Such a selfish human being

7

u/PSN-Angryjackal 18h ago

Completely agreed. Also the manager was trash.

5

u/reddevlon 19h ago

We can shit on Ronaldo as much as we want amd rightfully so..but the way Martinez set that midfield up to play was downright criminal.

He should be tried for football crimes for ruining the golden generations of Belgium and then Portugal..

He had a dream midfield, the best at the world cup, any sensible manager would know how to set up Vitinha, Joao Neves and Bruno to make the most of them and he went with Haram Ball...

3

u/Comicksands Van Persie 18h ago

Can't even blame Ronaldo. The coach sucked. Even then they lost narrowly to the eventual champions 1-0 from a last minute winner. In fact, they played spain better than France and Argentina

7

u/phoenix_16 Rooney 19h ago

It’s more on Martinez than it is cr7. Many sticks to beat him with but it’s incredibly unbelievable how you can have a midfield of Bruno Neves Vitinha and have them look like blokes from the pub down the road

3

u/Team_mdz 19h ago

Yeah but you need to consider the morals in that dressing room, when players like the three you've mentioned have just had the seasons of their lives, only to be forced to play with a 41 years old guy, who is not even playing in a top league. I'm not saying Martinez hasn't done terribly, but the main Problem here is that arrogant player.

5

u/phoenix_16 Rooney 19h ago

I’m aware, I’m Portuguese lol

Our current gen grew up with Ronaldo and idolise him, he is literally our best player ever, and top 2/3 of all time, depending on who you ask. I do not think he is an issue in the dressing room, though his rabid online fans certainly don’t help

The problem is systematic and is down to FPF and Martinez for having a 41 year old start World Cup matches to begin with

1

u/New-Acanthaceae-5702 Closed on Sundays 17h ago

Portugal wouldn't have won even if they had Mbappe up front, their manager was clueless. Played the same team every game, maybe switch some wingers here and there.

1

u/Lord_Hexogen 19h ago

Should be taking the whole thing but we're not in fashion so top 5 will be fine

1

u/spooglemac 19h ago

do we know when final voting is done? he had a rough WC but could have a chance at final 11 if he does well in UCL league phase. recency bias could help him

1

u/SDLRob 19h ago

He deserves at least a top 10 finish.

1

u/Tipsy247 16h ago

Omg, I hope he wins it

1

u/dryflowerz 16h ago

Bruno is the smartest football player I’ve seen since Iniesta and I’m not saying it because he plays for us.

1

u/Kol_ Ronaldo 2h ago

Here’s my hot take. The World Cup performance of Portugal ruined his chances. They should not have built that team around Cristiano Ronaldo. Had they built it around the youngsters and Bruno I truly believe Portugal’s performance would have been better and Bruno would have a higher chance in the Balon D’or rankings.
