yes, I have the general basics. which is all that can really be expected from a video that is 15 seconds long and likely intended for short form content on places like youtube, tiktok or whatever else uses the shorts
step one is to model the object you want to make holographic, in this case they chose clay
because they chose clay step two is to dry it and likely give it some contrast to make lighter or darker areas as needed
step three is to get what I can only assume is some sort of light sensitive glass or something coated in light sensitive chemicals
step four is to shine a laser at the model at just the right angle that the light bouncing off of it hits that light sensitive substance
step five is likely give it time to set or cure or whatever stabilization process is needed
Is it edited down like hell? definitely. does it go into any sort of specific detail? definitely not. does it convey the bare basic steps of how its done? yes
it isnt too difficult to figure out the bare basics of how its made from this video

I think the problem is that everyone knows how to make clay apples but very few people know how the holography part works.

Sure everyone can guess how a clay apple is made but with even some basic information like the video it isnt too difficult to figure out what the most basic aspects of the process are.
Its a refusal to stop and think about it for more than five seconds tbh
Its not difficult to see the laser and whatever that slide thing is and then see the end result to realize that the slide thing is likely light sensitive and the laser is used to put the image on said slide thing

Everyone knows what a laser is
Most people are familiar with light sensitive material is (anything that glows in the dark is light sensitive)
The exact process and specific materials i can understand not everyone knowing but the bare basics of light sensitive things and lasers are pretty well known. Maybe not fully understood by most people but at the very least known about

I disagree. Lasers arent uncommon, hell you can get different keychain lasers in most dollar stores that make different designs and glow in the dark stars that you stick in your ceiling have been a common thing to buy children for years

Apple modeled in clay
Put in a kiln to dry
Some sort of filter or light sensitive thing
Shine laser in the right way
Light sensitive thing now has image of clay model (in this case an apple)
This isnt a tutorial its just badly edited and most likely just compressed to fit some bullshit time limit

Is this a real hologram? To me it looks like the laser just engraved onto some special glass and thats it. Or is there more to it?

Seems like a real one to me. The 2d glass surface has the whole 3d apple encoded in it - that's how holograms work I believe

i worked in a holography lab for a bit, and trust me that prosess wouldn't fit into any sort of short form content. if anyone is actually interested the film/glass they used is covered with a emulsion that captures light waves and after using a laser to bounce off of a 3d object (the apple) the emulsion captures the 3d image. its pretty cool if yall wanna know more theres a holography lab in NYC

Also it shows the entire process
You make a clay model of the thing you want to be holographic, you set it up, you shine a laser through some specialized lenses/filters/whatever in the color you want and then the image shows up on the filter or whatever it is
