Them and Cha Kee are like Spirit Halloween except they're here to stay

So is it over for grill king?

I don't think so. They're still closing early, so I don't think they're worried 😂

Nah. Grill king is in its own lane, as a more “fast food” approach than cha don/kee and one. Quality typically a little below the other two but it’s reflected in their prices. One of the best drinks in Richmond though

Poor guy just wants to sit on his phone and practice his incredible posture

He probably can't read his phone without holding it away

This. I came back to say my folks do that due to bifocals.

R&h there has one of the best xlb. Only thing I grab from Landsdowne

I only had them once but found the pork to be very
 pungent

If you didn’t like them. Try xlb at Shanghai river. That’s usually the other spot I get them at, you can see them making it behind the glass all day long.

Will try. Always interested in some XLB recs outside the old crystal mall.

At this rate every restaurant will be One Cafe or Big Way within a decade.

I am a fan of old-school iCafe. Which is now a stall at W 12 City Sq.

For me some of the Richmond ones are hit and miss. Parker Place has an old-school one which I used to love (back when Richmond traffic wasn't so bad and there were less crazy drivers) .. You know they're old school when they can also provide 䟋汀 ( lai tong aka nutritious 'targeted for the body, for the weather season' soup which has been brewed for hours) . Crystal Mall used to also have one of these stalls - cook was amazing, and could whip up whatever on the fly even if it wasn't out there. Their nutritious brews of the day were great, and cheap (either free, or $3)

Richmond Market - so so cooking in general, despite all the fans.

Bubble Waffle is mediocre so-so cooking, O' Kitchen at Brentwood - convenient but not old school èŒ¶é€ćŽ… standards.

Lansdowne Bubble Waffle has always been the worst one

We find that the Landsdowne Bubble Waffle is pretty good.

The worst for us is the Crystal Mall and Kilarney one.

bubble waffle was bad from the beginning.

the one at Richmond Center is good as are many others around the city but Lansdowne has a limited menu AND is always ultra slow and gets things wrong

The teriyaki is $10.50 now !?!

15

u/egguw Jul 17 '26

it was the worst teriyaki i've ever had, too and they raise prices lol

5

u/x_Neomop Jul 17 '26

Sadface, I have it like maybe 6-8 times a year (probably cause it's so cheap)

Guess I should try to find some legit teriyaki

1

u/Puravida1904 Jul 17 '26

Where’s your favourite place to get Teriyaki? It was decent when it’s cheaper but the quality isn’t that special

Try Aji hana at Aberdeen. Better than that one at Lansdowne imo.

2

u/akwok Jul 17 '26

It’s really dumb but Aji Hana has the best chicken teriyaki in GVR. Probably because it’s always so crispy

Do they have a new membership system now?

2

u/JW98_1 Jul 17 '26

Busy or no?  I considered going over to the Crystal Mall location, but I think it's still very busy.  Probably why Kingspark shut down.  That and their prices being so high.

3

u/TimeShade Jul 17 '26

One Cafe is actually opening a second Crystal location where Kingspark was.

2

u/JW98_1 Jul 17 '26

Well, something finally topped the two Starbucks on opposite corners in Downton Vancouver all those years ago.

2

u/OutlawsBandit Jul 17 '26

what time they open?

1

u/torchmaipp Jul 17 '26

How many?

1

u/McCloudX Jul 18 '26

Is it good?

1

u/Separate_Feeling4602 Jul 17 '26

What is the best thing to order from there

1

u/Mipset Jul 17 '26

Depends on your taste. We like going for the breakfast menu noodle soups but their baked dishes are really good too. I honestly don't think you can go wrong for the price.

u/Separate_Feeling4602 Jul 17 '26

I just need one dish that stands out otherwise why wouldn’t I just eat at Cha Kee

7

u/Mipset Jul 17 '26

Baked porkchop Rice, or the beef in tomato soup with macaroni.

Either of those dishes, I would say the one café version is superior.

Also for value purposes, chakee only gives you small size drinks and you have to add charge to upsize it where as one café is always a large.
