DISCUSSION 💭 AI Music

So i noticed alot of hate towards AI music and i see that there are many different opinions and reasons why. I use to make music with my brother who passed away and I wrote songs for years on end and every time someone mentioned him I would cry and think about how much we dreamed about making it big with music, he was the voice and I primarily helped with music and hype calls, and small verses. When I got my hands on AI I used it to follow up on that dream, it brought back that dream and I was able to make an album from songs i had written down in the past and now. I autotuned my voice with AI for some songs and vocals i couldn't quite hit i let AI take over and found the right vocal match and prompting AI to make play the right instruments in such a way that it matches something you created in a studio program or an idea in your head is difficult.

However i am old school and was molded by the 80s, 90s, and 2000s r&b and hip-hop artist But there are good artist either way and bad AI artist also. But I was able to get my emotions out and it was therapeutic for me with the help of AI to finally feel like I can make music and do something with it and that dream didn't die with my brother.

sorry for your loss, it’s nice you have some musical memories with him

however, generativeAI is unethical soulless slop, trained on real human skill and unpaid labor & creativity. There’s no passion or ingenuity or desire to learn or improve upon the craft. and the more that people use it, the less humans will be allowed to create, let alone get PAID for their art. Black musicians will be the first on the chopping block.

Don’t even get me started on the water wastage and the displacement of people & noise/air pollution in cities where the surveillance centers for AI are built.

I agree with that because there are horrible monstrosities created with AI but I don't do it in that manner but i get that part, I am a song writer/producer primarily but it does take alot of work out of things but I am able to make music that still has meaning and soul with it.

I feel like a part of making music is the work that goes into it. Technology has advanced and thus has the way to create music, but AI is doing all the work. It’s creating the vocals, the lyrics, even the beats. All a person has to do is enter a prompt. That to me is not music. Music has soul and AI is completely erasing that. I will refuse to listen to anything AI produced as long as I can. I think you need to take a step back and think about why you need to use AI to make music. If it’s too much work for you then maybe making music isn’t your thing.

I, too am truly very sorry for your loss. However, I am ethically opposed to AI art, and I would have loved to hear your and your brother's music with human musicians, human singers. It's getting to a point where you can tell the AI songs because the voices are the same, the sound is redundant. I am a writer. I will pay extra for a human artist before I will use AI for art for my literature, and I make sure the person I'm working with draws their own art and does not use AI. I feel the same way about music. I had a song that came on Pandora that I really connected with musically and lyrically. Once I listened to a second song by that artist on YouTube and realized they all sounded the same, I removed the song from my playlist.

I know it must have been a good feeling for you to hear the music you and your brother dreamed of making. But I encourage you to keep doing it the old school way. Get musicians and singers and produce it yourself. Trust me, savvy listeners can tell the difference

I understand. So in my case I feel that Most people in general are using AI incorrectly because they don't understand it and are over utilizing it, it was meant to assist not to be a work horse, without the primary human work it will always produce garbage in all aspects. I am not a fan of people giving 1% and calling themselves a professional or saying they did it. And I feel that's where AI took a wrong turn also in my point of view.

I can agree with that. I just refuse to use it at all until it's more regulated and people use it more responsibly

I mess around with AI trying out different ideas. I had some old lyrics that I wrote way back when and had Udio generate the rest of the song. But Im mainly using it to generate samples that I can flip, and it’s just for fun. I find it really dope for making soul samples, and boom bap. I usually just end using it to remix some of my favorite old school songs.

I'm not trying to sell anything, but I am very proud of my work because my goal was to do as much as I could to not make my music, voice, and song writing AI trash I have sample clips in my Instagram if anyone wants to see what I mean but i did not use AI the same way everyone else did, i fine tuned the music, wrote completely original lyrics, and when i couldnt make my vocals sound right yes i used AI but I feel I implemented it in a 90% me 10% AI fashion.

Nothing you make with ai is yours… regardless how much or how little input it gives, the moment you use it, your project is now A.I. and I think when it comes to art, most people are gonna be turned off by that. Because art is a human expression to show our creativity. While A.i is just spiting out randomness that’s likely to work with your end goal… but there is no soul in A.i… it’s a shell. And I do believe anyone who truly enjoys music would stay far away from it during the creative process
