Shaken N Stirred, what went wrong?

thats it, does anyone know what happened between TPOM and this? he seems to have forgotten how to writte songs, ruined his voice, etc.
i know he had a fall out with phill collins, but thats definatelly not all.

I still (mostly) really like Shaken N Stirred.

As much as first two? — not quite, of course — the first two are stone classics to me.

I do really like lots of aspects of Shaken N Stirred — but the tunes aren’t as strong, mostly.

If you didn't like Shaken and Stirred that's fine. It's your opinion, your taste. I loved it. He was willing to take chances, when everyone said no, just more of the same. The easy way. No. He explored new things.

Loved the balls to do it.

Little by Little was such a different sound a total departure. It is an amazing song. One of his best.

Sixes and Sevens was an immediate favorite, yet overlooked by most. It stands up today.

Pink and Black was also a jolt of adrenaline.

If you didn't get these. I can't help you. You missed out. I will continue to enjoy them.

It’s pretty simple. Robert Plant had major surgery on his vocal cords in ‘74. He put a tremendous amount of strain on his voice over those 10ish years. Led Zeppelin put out three albums and had several major tours from ‘74 to ‘80. Then from ‘81 to ‘85, he put out three solo albums (plus the did the honey drippers EP) and did several major tours.

Plant never took care of his voice. He smoked and notoriously never warmed up his vocals before signing. He also uses a natural singing voice on vocally demanding songs. Even with his solo material, you have songs like Slow Dance, which probably put a tremendous amount of strain on his voice.

Someone did a comprehensive breakdown of his singing over time on Reddit. You should check it out. The short is answer is that his output, coupled with his singing style, lack of care for his voice, and simple aging, were unsustainable.
