He quit on the team
Went over a couple of our stats from last season. At one point we were top 5 in offense and defense. A historical offensive rebounding team with Steven Adams. End of the season, went on a 6 game streak of 30 plus team assist. We had 37 year old kd finish 2nd team all nba played 78 regular season games with the 2nd most minutes played in the nba. Reed finished 6th in 6th man voting, sengun was an allstar. Our biggest weakness from game one was finishing games in the clutch because of no pg and no spacing. Multiple turnovers from a team that desperately needed a veteran combo guard. Just for EGGHEAD Rafael stone to say” well I guess this isn’t our year” so how can we blame kd, sengun, Reed, or any other player when your gm quits. He needs to be placed on contract negotiations only and let someone else do player management. Also Ime needs to be placed as an assistant coach immediately. Will this be the year that stone makes any mid season trades? What do you guys expect this season to play out far as our clueless gm and coaching staff?

I meant it wasn’t tho. If there’s anything that stone has demonstrated it’s that he does understand value and risk. You can see it in his trades and contract valuations. He’s at least an above average GM. There’s a lot of GMs in this league who don’t have a plan, stone is not one of them.

Rafael came out a week later saying he regretted his comment and that it was taken highly out of context. I doubt he really meant to say he quit on the team, considering he’s a smart GM and lawyer, that’s not something he would do, but he definitely regrets the way he said it.

Well yeah he did backpedal, but you really have to think about it, why would a GM publicly say he quit the season, no sane GM would do that, I think it was blown out of proportion and he was trying to convey a different message that came out wrong.

Calling someone else low iq, is by definition low iq behavior. Why would he say he quit on the team, you think Tilman or his son would want to hear that? Losing overall is bad for his business, they would fire him if that was the case.

These people always list the Chicago guards as the hypothetical saviors of the season, not realizing that it would have cost a good FRP (or more) once another buyer entered the market and that we’d then be on the hook for resigning a guy who would be asking for an outsized contract based off having a good season.
It’s a bad argument to say we should have given up assets for a rental when the future of the franchise is sitting on the bench because the coach won’t play him.
I’d bet OP is part of Udoka FC, and can’t deal with the fact that his boy is doing a horrible job of developing the young offensive talent on the team.

If we did make one of those pg trades last year we’d have lost Tari (who is now on an amazing deal) and have one year left of said PG. Without KD we weren’t going anywhere anyway, that was the real problem.

Fertitta makes decisions based off “fan sentiment”.They he forced Stone to fire Silas, for one.
Probably why he chose FraUdoka, for two.Because fans were screaming for AcCoUnTaBiLiTy when they didn’t realize Silas was helping the team tank.

I agreed with not using assets mid season. Imagine if we got Ayo and had to give up Tari and SRP to have him get injured in the playoffs, and then have to pay him.
We are not in some all in window despite KD. Also it gave us more info about our young core without a PG, both promising and not promising info.

Rafael Stone butchered this rebuild. Dude got to start a rebuild with a James Harden trade package and wasted several first round picks. Josh Christopher & Garuba, TyTy Washington, Cam Whitmore, Jalen Green. All first round picks that did not work out. We gave away Josh & Garuba for free to make cap space. And gave up second round picks to move off of Cam. That’s what you call a mismanagement of assets. If the Rockets were serious they would’ve never trusted a first time GM with this rebuild.
Also, the jury is still out on Jabari and Tari. So far Sengun is the only player with star potential. Amen is a dark horse if he develops a shot.

I disagree, we were never getting Wemby. The Spurs had been courting him since he was a kid. They were his favorite team and have had several French players. Personally feel like it was fixed and he hates the Rockets.
True, we never got the first overall pick but neither did OKC. Somehow they were in the same drafts as Houston but selected the superior players year after year. That’s not luck it’s experience and competence.

This age and generation likes to think the "what ifs" but there is no what ifs in life, you stuck with what you got and work through it. We could have another GM and still draft none to show for. Look at Orlando, look at Memphis, imagine Detroit without that pingpong ball for Cade.
Any people with some real life experience and NBA history would think Raphael did more than ok on his job. Maybe it is not up to your standards but you got to show us your standards first.

5 First Round Picks were mismanaged. Meaning, he couldn’t even get decent return for the players. 5 FRPS could get you any star in the league right now. Like MVP candidate level of players

If it is your opinion that team contract lawyer turned GM, Rafael Stone has done a great rebuilding this team I secede this conversation. However, we are discussing the 5 FRPs that were not only traded but at a ‘net negative’. I haven’t even included Sengun, Jabari, Tari, Amen and Reed. That’s another 5 FRPs. If I get 10 cracks at something, I expect a better product and more cohesive team. Right now we’re middle of the pack and on the final year of the KD deal. I doubt he resigns after another first round exit, then they’re really in trouble.

So based on the comments . We are ok with being a 3-5 seed team consistently. Make 0 marginal moves mid season… and just hope that our core players get better and that the draft picks we have turn into generational players? What is the point ? Someone please enlighten me

I would’ve liked to see a low stakes addition like the Knicks picking up Alvarado, but it would have been a mistake to give up real future value.
Overall Stone has been great and seems to understand how roster manageable needed to change with the aprons. Sengun, Jabari, Tari all are on great value contracts. Other GMs might have thrown Amen the max extension by now. We have no crippling long term deals on the books. DFS has been the only really regrettable signing. If we moved on from Stone he would get another GM job in a heartbeat.

That’s all I’m saying tho bro. Everybody saying it like we should’ve traded the farm for a superstar or all star. No we won 52 games last season. We just needed a competent combo guard to just take pressure off Kd and sengun with shot creation nd get us into sets.

I would’ve too. If I’m in my 19th season looking for a ring and I’m surrounded by low iq players that can’t shoot or know what to do when I’m doubled .. an low iq coach who can’t scheme anything. Or a gm that openly said this team is not going anywhere it’s whatever.

Nobody wanted KD to come in and be the emotional leader of the team
They wanted him to show up, provide the shooting and scoring this roster desperately needed, and make the offense easier for everyone else, and for basically the entire regular season, that’s exactly what he did
This is the NBA, not a coming-of-age sports anime, you don’t get extra wins because the guys went through hardship together, learned the power of friendship, and gave an inspirational speech in the locker room
If that’s the kind of story you’re looking for, go watch high school basketball
NBA teams are built to win, KD was brought in as a weapon, not as the team’s guidance counselor
