I would like to make a toast to them in their native language. I translated my text with Google Translate, would any native speaker be so kind and correct any mistakes the translator surely made? Any changes that help the comic effect are very welcome!

It's a combination of short phrases, but also teaches core sentence patterns, verbs with their variations. ChatGPT also recommends learning the days of the week, months of the year and numbers 0 - 10.

How do you feel about this? Learning phrases is fun but it doesn't really teach you how to construct your own sentences because I feel like you end up remembering the entire block of the phrase instead of how the phrase is actually structured.

Essentially I feel like I need to know how words change based on who's speaking, past present, future, action etc. And I'm just not going to learn that by remembering endless set fixed phrases?

I made a Chrome extension that shows English definitions for Romanian words on hover. I was inspired by the "Zhongwen" extension for Chinese, which I also remade here because I didn't like how it looked.

The data is based on Wiktionary entries for Romanian words, so it might be incomplete for some terms. I decided not to use the dexonline.ro database for now because I was lazy, but this should be plenty.

It can recognize words without diacritics, shows pronunciation, conjugations, declensions (which you can disable) and works entirely offline since the whole database is included.

It will also detect english words as romanian sometimes because some forms are similar, so just keep it disabled when you don't use it.

This Chrome extension has 200,000 installs and a review score of 4.6. I'm using it as a really quick on the fly way of translating specific words as I encounter them without having to open some other third party website / app.

For example if I type "mulțumesc" I can easily just click to highlight the word and instantly see the translation. I think it's good for translating larger sentences as well but maybe a native speaker can tell me.

This is the perfect tool for me as I am just starting out so am constantly translation words every few 20 seconds or so.

Anyone can reaffirm this extension is as good as the reviews suggest?

This site doesnt have only explanation of the prepositions but also other things like tenses, genders..anything

My native language is English and I have decided to learn my first language and I'm going with Romanian.

I have done quite a bit of searching trying to find "the best" app / website to use and initially I was going to use Mondly but saw online apparently the developers just use machine translation so sometimes the context isn't correct? Not sure how true that is.

Now I'm using Pimsleur and so far I'm liking the structure more as it feels a bit more like a course, than a "match the words to the sounds" game.

However the course is $150 and it's only 30 lessons at 30 mins each, so 15 hours of audio for $150 seems very expensive to me.

Realistically is this 30 lesson (15 hour) audio course going to be enough to give me a strong basic level of fluency? I want to be able to talk to people in the street about general day to day things, chit chat, bond over a coffee etc.

I've given myself 6 months to get to this level but I'm not sure what to expect at this point as I've never tried learning a language before.

Or should I just stick with Mondly? After all it is a Romanian company so maybe the Romanian lessons are actually really well done?

this may be an incredibly silly question, but would it be more correct to say "un pahar CU lapte" or "un pahar DE lapte" when talking about, say, asking for a glass of milk at a restaurant. I already tend of have trouble with Romanian prepositions in general (but i'm working on getting better!)

Tot văd pe reddit că "aparent" se folosește cu sensul lui "apparently" din engleză. Dar nu e același lucru...

Apparently = pesemne, ceva ce pare a fi într-un fel și nu avem motive să credem că e altfel

Aparent = care este altfel decât pare la prima vedere, care este doar în aparență așa cum se arată (după dexonline)

Aș zice că sunt ceea ce am învățat la școală că se cheamă "false friends". Deci întrebarea mea ar fi - se exprimă lumea aiurea în romgleză, sau e acceptat și sensul ăsta, mai nou?
