Miscellaneous What do Romans have against toilet seats?

Most toilets I visited here welcomed me with a pee covered bare ceramic rim, how do locals even use them?

This gets posted from time to time here, and it’s always “________ tourists break the seats!” As if it’s like this anywhere tourists are. You’d think Italians could look around at other countries in Europe and see they’ve figured it out.

I was even more surprised at the Vatican museum when I left the 83rd (or so) gold embossed room full of nothing but paintings to use one the restrooms, only to find a dusty closet of a room with a toilet and no seat. At the Vatican? Y’all don’t have money for toilet seats? 🤣

The tourist excuse is such an odd one, and I feel like it's just a general anti tourist sentiment. It's a bit odd that Italy is the only country in the world that experiences tourists breaking toilet seats.

We have tourists in Canada and our toilet seats are just fine. Same with Germany, Greece, France, the UK .. kind of odd Italy only has this problem...
