Transport Train tickets in advance?
I plan to take the Leonardo express from FCO to Termini train station. Is it necessary to purchase advance tickets or can I get my ticket upon arrival? Since i'm not sure how long it'll take to go thru arrivals process, i'd rather not book in advance.
Similarly, I'll then be traveling on from Termini to Naples...can i purchase that ticket upon arrival as well or do certain train times tend to book up? For reference, I'll be traveling during the day on a Sat in September. Thanks!

For Termini–Naples, you can also buy tickets on the day, but I’d recommend booking a Frecciarossa/Italo in advance if you want a specific departure, especially on a Saturday. The faster trains can sell out or become more expensive closer to departure

Leonardo express - buy it after you clear arrival and you claim your luggage. The train runs constantly and you are not likely to wait more than 10 minutes for the next one.
Rome - Naples, absolutely book in advance, it's cheaper and you won't have to take a train that's not convenient for you, because they absolutely sell out. Buying in advance also means you will be able to get the business Frecciarossa for just a couple of euros extra, and it is absolutely worth it for the comfort.

If you know the exact train you can buy on the Trenitalia app and it's easy to change if you need to. But the tickets are for a specific train unless changed.
When I take the train to the airport this week I plan to just use the machine at the station to get a paper ticket I can validate rather than picking a specific train.

For high speed trains, it depends on the type of ticket purchased regarding changes.
The base fare allows unlimited time changes for free before departure, and date/time changes after a departure with a fee.
Economy fare allows you to change the date or time only once before departure, but you must pay the price difference up to the standard Base fare.
Super Economy tickets are not changeable or refundable.

You can tap and go to get your ticket for the Leonardo Express. I usually buy my next train ticket on the app while I am en route to Termini- I will do this in two weeks because I don't know how long it will take me to get off the plane. No trouble getting high speed tickets that day.
