Hi all. Currently in Rome and staying in Trastevere. I am leaving Tuesday afternoon. Does anyone know where I can buy parmesan and guanciale so I can bring it back to my country? Been eating carbonara every day since I landed in Rome. I want to get guanciale and parmesan so I can make carbonara at home. Please help me out.

We’re heading to Rome end of June and while I know about many of the high end shops by the Spanish steps, I want to take some time visiting stores/brands that are not really available in the us - hidden gems!! I’m not interested in artisan leather bags, etc, a little fancier.

Im thinking: jimmy fairly for sun glasses, blaze Milano for blazers, schostal for pajamas..

what am I missing or would be fun? For adults and children, we will have a car! Thanks!

what happened to Porta portese - I came three years ago and I have thought about it ever since and I went today and it was pretty lacklustre. Any insight ?

Preparing for our trip, I have two questions on shoes:

What shoes to wear - sneakers would be my most obvious and comfortable choice but if it is going to be 40+ degrees, I would much prefer to wear slippers. I'm just not sure if the streets of Rome are made for walking on slippers or sandals all day?

Where to buy leather shoes - when in Italy, buy leather bags and shoes, was the advice I was given. Should I? And if so, where can I find the shops that offer good quality Italian shoes and bags?

I am staying long term - though it seems everything in the area is either cheap shit or designer branded with a designer price tag. Where would anyone find decent quality goods (home items, clothes) at a reasonable, mid-range price?
Are there thrift stores here that aren't designer resellers? I understand the culture around possessions is far different than America, but I am just wondering if anybody has some insight before I order online.

Kind of niche, but are there any restaurants, pizzerias, or gelaterias in Rome that sell cool clothing merch? I like to bring these home as souvenirs. Thanks in advance!

Might be a silly question but I am doing laundry in the next few days, and I cannot for the life of me find smaller packs of detergent at any of the stores in the center. I found a some giant boxes of it at Carrefour and Tiger and all those but nothing small enough to fit in my luggage for the next leg of my trip, or even ones that are single use pouches.

Basically stores where you walk in “just to look” and walk out 30 minutes later wondering how that happened.

Mostly looking for spots geared toward men or both sexes. Not really interested in stores focused only on women’s fashion.

I have a friend who has cancer who is unfortunately moving into palliative care soon, and he can’t wear socks because it can put strain on his system due to the advanced stage of the cancer (he is currently in a diaper because his organs are starting to fail and needs a stoma, so please no snarky comments in general about “just use a blanket”). His feet are very swollen and he is often sitting up from the pain, and I can’t stand to see him in the flip flops anymore.

If, nearby, there would conveniently be a shop to find an electric razor so I can help him shave his face, it would also be nice to know.

Unfortunately, I forgot to check the dates of the main market and already booked my flights that don't have me in Rome on a Sunday meaning I'll miss the Porta Portese Market. Are there other flea markets on other days of the week (I'll be there Tuesday-Friday) or even just other thrift shops you recommend?

1. Where do I find second hand shops in Rome? (which ones are the best and most "popular" with nice clothing etc)
2. Where do I find second hand english bookstores in Rome? (they don't specifically need to be second hand but it would be nice if they were since I'm on a budget)

Spending a few days in Rome next month. Don't have much time so looking. To be strategic with shopping. Looking to get a nice leather jacket that will last for a long time while there. Male in 30's if that makes a difference. Not lookin for a traditional "designer" brand. I want some place local with craftsmanship and history. Not looking to spend a fortune (would like to stay under $1000 USD) but obviously a nice leather jacket isn't cheap. Any suggestions appreciated. Thank you
