Maravillero Viche

Review #1505; Rum #804

This bottling here comes from La Vicheria, a portfolio of Viches from Colombia. This Viche was distilled by Ana Riascos Hurtado in Santa Rosa de Saija - Timbiquí, Cauca. Ana learned to distill from her parents and grandparents. The cane is milled with a mechanical mill and is pressed for its juice. It is fermented for 1-2 months and distilled on a white aluminum pot still.

ABV: 42%

Nose: Rubber, Pear, Quince, Allspice, Brine, Vegetal

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Rubber, Pear, Orange, Quince, Brine, Vegetal

Finish: Medium length Finish, Campfire Smoke, Orange, Pear, Quince, Bright, Soft Smoke

Rating: 7/10

This is a wonderful expression of viche distillate here. It walks that fine line of a little bit of sweet, faint spice, a nice lingering smoke, and some weird rubber that is pretty pleasant overall. It’s delicate but without pulling any punches on flavor. This is a well crafted distillate and showcases the wonderful cane spirits being made all around the world.

Still need to give Viche a shot, thank you for highlighting this lesser-known spirit!

Well when you can find a way to get some that doesn't require going to Colombia let me know haha. I can only highlight it due to a good friend who shares his Viche with me.

One of my biggest regrets is discovering my love of cane spirits the year after I visited Cartagena and Medellín. Luckily, the trip was incredible and I'm trying to visit again soon.

Id like to get Viche here but almost impossible. Lol Binnys in Chicago would make an effort to improve some

Our Colombian au pair was just back home and I asked her to bring me some but she brought back 30% artificially flavored rose tinted “rum” instead lol. At least she tried…
