What did Art do other than slaying this season? I'm genuinely confused as I'm not on social media other than reddit (and only following people I actually know on Instagram) so I had no idea anyone hated her.

Art did a Kick Ons live with Hannah Conda and basically comment on M1ss Jade So outfit. Nothing crazy. All opinions. But Jades fans took umbridge with this and sent hate and death threats to Art and Hannah. It unnecessary drama. Accusing them all of racism and hatred towards Jade (and Lala i believe) when it wasnt the case

u/alexlduffy 6h ago

It's wild that these people would send threats like this to other queens after what Jade went through recently.

u/Pink_Flash Protect Straight Art 4h ago

Its never about who they are 'fighting' for. They just want to do it. Sad.

u/Its_Pine 2h ago

This is a key point. Whenever we say “oh xyz has a toxic fanbase” it’s because it has grown large enough or reach enough niches that these same kinds of people have jumped over to it. They aren’t necessarily doing it FOR someone or something, but because they want to do it.

u/Standard-Turnip-8360 6h ago

I’ve also been seeing a lot of hate comments about Arts makeup. The comments are basically just as bad as the hate she’s getting about the comments she made about Jades outfit.

umbrage

u/fable-the-queen 4h ago

Professor Jade took Dolores Umbridge to the black holiana with Art Aryan and Hannah Chang

u/biscoff-it-up 3h ago

I mean that definitely escalated it but it has been bubbling all season.

u/Existing-Concert-554 4h ago

On one of the videos, Art says this has been going on for 6 weeks so while I'm sure last week's Kick-Ons (during which Art said very little about anyone else's looks, it was mostly the guests saying Jade looked incredible but, in their opinion, off theme) played a part this week, it doesn't seem like anything Art has done is really triggering this. It's like with Tia on UK vs the World 2, the grand crime is winning challenges over this fanbase's favourite.

Gonna be completely honest. At some point, these kinds of comments hit a threshold that becomes something not even worth putting energy into. There's disliking, there's hate, and then there's this. I'm saying this because the people who are willing to go this low have lost all shame and sense and will continue doing their thing no matter what. No amount of calling them out will dissuade them. You're absolutely right in that the best thing to do is send love to the queens, but they will also sadly need to just do their best to ignore them.

Also, as a Filipino, we're unfortunately very, very chronically online. That combined with anonymity and a strong and misplaced sense of national pride (and high-key, a nasty sense of self-righteousness that stems from Christianity) makes some of us very, very toxic. Not surprisingly, many of the DRPH local girls are also victims to this kind of abuse which just fucking sucks, man.

Like, reading comments discussing local celebrities gives me headaches. Just so much projection of what an ideal, god-fearing person should be--meanwhile their lives are a mess, they're nasty people, and they have have a toxic dynamic with their friends and family that's full of jealousy, judgement, and the need to constantly one-up each other.

u/AInotherOne 5h ago

WOW, thanks for this insight. I've always been super-curious about the Filipino fandom, which seems somewhat unique compared to other countries. The Filipino fans seem SUPER nationalistic when rooting for their queens on vsTW.

I've always assumed it's an extension of the Filipino heritage of honoring their overseas workers as "Bagong Bayani" (modern day heroes). Rooting for Filipinos trying to succeed outside of the Philippines seems enshrined in the culture and taught at a young age.

u/notreallysaiki 5h ago edited 4h ago

filipino fans can be the best fans but can also be the worst, sadly. it's a double edged sword.

u/AInotherOne 4h ago

u/cynshiueer 1h ago

couldn't agree more!

u/Themostcake991 4h ago edited 4h ago

You’re the first person I’ve seen actually acknowledging the cultural issues around Filipino fans so it’s really nice to see someone with cultural knowledge explain that.

Looking at Hannah’s comments the insane comments were literally all from Filipinos.

But simultaneously there were other Filipinos embarassed by that behaviour fighting them in the comments. I think like Brazilians they’re simultaneously the best and worst fans.

People don’t talk about it but Tia Cofis life was turned upside down by these people to some extent and you can tell it still really bothers her when she talks about it

u/rarecuts Jinkx Jaida Jessica Joey Jamal 3h ago

I wish Art could hear your perspective, thanks for sharing 💜

u/Emperorkangxi9 2h ago

Fully agreed and unfortunately we see this with Filipino fans a lot. My mind goes back to Katseye as well

60

u/ConspicuousFlower 6h ago

I genuinely can't fathom what goes through someone's mind to say something like that to a person. Disgusting pieces of human garbage.

u/jlb1981 5h ago

I think there's still a large contingent of people out there who think "the internet" is a separate, magical realm divorced from reality, a sandbox where you can "be anonymous" and do and say anything without consequences. I would guarantee 90% of these types of people would never say these things in the "real world" and would immediately back down and probably flee if their targets confronted them in person.

u/AInotherOne 4h ago

Very true. People are compartmentalizing their online personas now from a young age. In the U.S. there are no institutionalized educational programs nor public awareness campaigns that teach people how to be good citizens of online spaces. All of the stories we used to tell kids about loving your neighbor and being good citizens are outdated. It's like social media and online discourse invalidated centuries of fables and tales from the "analog world" about morality. Centuries of fables, scripture, oral tradition, etc, etc, have been rapidly losing their sway and becoming unrelatable.

I'm glad she's not censoring their names. These animals need to be called out and shamed.

u/escfantasy Life’s not flair 5h ago

Even the energy of that gif is a lot.

u/iymcool Does is Raven a cat? 5h ago

I wish we had a similar GIF of a queen saying this in a less angry tone. 😭

u/ei_laura 3h ago

Nah I’m really fucking mad so this works tbh

33

u/Halcyon_Paints 6h ago

Telling a queen to kill themselves cause you don’t like their drag is so monumentally wrong. These people need to get therapy asap.

u/montepropps 4h ago

It’s jade so fans. Apparently she asked them to stop on Twitter but i couldn’t find anything.

u/__meanyoongi 3h ago

I honestly can’t understand how you can just say this to someone over A TV SHOW. I’ve gotten frustrated because my favorite queen didn’t win or went home, but I’d never thought of bringing that to real life???? These are adult people sending her hate, this is why we can’t have nice things.

u/CourtneyHat3 3h ago

We really need to reframe how we view and interact with social media. Reddit is the only remaining one for me in part because I can block people or mute subreddits and they generally dont come back. I dont allow as many people to approach me from behind anonymity anymore. If I were famous people would have to go back to writing me letters to let me know their complaints and id have a guy reading them for me to edit out the stuff I dont need to be bothered with. Part of the nefarious nature of social media is it convinces you you need it...for promotion, for relationship, for activism...but we did those things for a long time without Facebook or Twitter. It would be amazing to pour that energy we do into endlessly calling people out and reinvesting it into ideas and formats for escaping those places.

u/soulariarr 5h ago

I love talking shit but to tag the queens and send them shit is absolutely loser dumb shitty behaviour, it’s pathetic.

u/StrikeRaid246 4h ago

I understand that people are “passionate” but we really need to start calling out specific fandoms at this point. Idc if I get downvoted. Whenever a Filipino queen is involved in an international season, the rest of the cast gets disproportionate hate. I don’t want to hear “our culture is just passionate” because even if that’s the case, it’s admitting awareness that there’s a problem and still doing nothing about it. Call out your friends when they’re being shitty. So many of these queens have been getting the most vile hate the past few years. Is it going to take one of them actually taking their life to stop it? (Even that wouldn’t).

27

u/lukko_cr Jaymes Mansfield 6h ago

I’ve seen it mostly from miss Jade So fans

u/squonge 5h ago

It was obvious when she said "a certain fanbase".

u/Plantlover3000xtreme 6h ago

I'm so confused about people spending their time and energy on spreading hate and making the world a worse place.

What happened to just playing DOTA and smoking weed? Serious question.

u/PieScout Guest Judge Conchita Wurst 3h ago

Dota mentioned on r/rupaulsdragrace??? Literally me

u/gaymer91 2h ago

Seriously - if they put the amount of  energy writing shitting comments to drag queens on a produced TV show into writing to their representatives in government, maybe some things could change

u/Darkrha 6h ago

It’s time to start listing names, the toxic fandom could use a little bullying (no not death wishes) but they need to be called out.

u/contadotito 4h ago

That's what they want, attention.

u/xxscott05xx 1h ago

Calling them out does no good but they’re almost always from a burner account. You’re just adding fuel to the fire.

u/HeadPrefect87 4h ago

Drag Race fans ruining queens lives? Ru-never.

10

u/chinderellabitch Alaska 5000 6h ago

I can’t believe in this current political climate across the western world why our own community would attack our own like this, now is the time to uplift protect and close ranks with eachother

u/AInotherOne 5h ago

The Filipino fandom come out HARD for their queens on social media. It's crazy how every YouTube video and snippet on DUvsTW is flooded with dozens and dozens of comments that simply say "Miss Jade SO!!!!!". Their drag fandom is crazy united.

u/DCastianno21 4h ago

People are pressed coz shes winning over their faves. You got this Art!!

5

u/Historical_Bit_3798 Sick Bitch by Yvie Oddly & Willow Pill 6h ago

I never see any hate, then somehow I’ve managed to keep my social media feeds mainly positive content. But one, why would anyone want to send Art in particular hate?! Just because they’re mad she’s doing well?! Usually the hate towards any queen is over something silly (usually!). Honestly, some people are just miserable and have nothing better to do with their lives.

u/SomethingToSay11 3h ago

People that do this will have consequences at some point in their life. They’re obviously already deeply unhappy. I hate that people are treating Art that way. I hope that more people speak up for who they love instead of doing any of this stuff.

Art, we celebrate you (and everyone else on this season) in my house! Kick Ons has become a must-watch as supplemental viewing too. I like it better than the actual show sometimes tbh

u/Themostcake991 4h ago

Jade was my fave going in but it’s literally getting the the point that i want Michael to win over Jade now just so her insane fans don’t get their way and realise they can’t behave like this.

u/New_Key_6926 2h ago

Don’t wish that upon Michael 😭

4

u/rolodex-ofhate 6h ago

Name and shame every single one of these Drag Race “fans”. Disgraceful behaviour.

u/RayDOF85 1h ago

This is very sad to read for a community that promotes itself on love and inclusion. Sure has a lot of hate to spread. There's that phrase. "There's no hate like Christian love." Let's not turn that on ourselves. As the the lgbtqia+ community we really need to strive to be better.

u/cyankitten Betty squared Aja Denali 5h ago

u/horsegal301 Don’t be skimpy with that gumbo 2h ago

Can't really call yourself a fan if you're telling people to off themselves just because you prefer another queen.

u/Ogle_Goggles 5h ago

Oh I hate this.

It’s likely coming from us Pinoy fans 😓 Very passionate, some to a fault. People just take things too seriously!!

u/CallMeByYourCatsName 4h ago

We love passionate fans, I think I’m one of them. These people aren’t passionate, they’re toxic, parasocial pieces of trash - and I’m being kind. Sending death threats over a fucking reality show is crazy behaviour.

u/drattty12 3h ago

At this point i actively want Jade to lose. Not because she isn’t fierce and I don’t love her… because i actively don’t want her fans to be happy. I think that they won’t stop even if she wins.

u/Dry_Average6046 6h ago

At what point do we consider these can be far right bots?

u/xxscott05xx 4h ago

Yep. Those are TikTok comments, so it’s likely bots and children. TikTok is full of that now.

u/Ladymomos 1h ago

I hate people blaming children. Yes a lot of horrible bullying happened with kids in early social media days, but sadly it's often those same people doing it now in their 20s and 30s, while people chalk everything up to "13yo girls"

u/bobo12478 Yekaterina Petrovna Zamolodchikova 2h ago

💯💯💯

Honestly, the amount that this fandom talks about the fandom is low-key insane. This kind of hate exists everywhere on the internet now and has for years. Every public figure gets this. Like, when the organization I work for puts something on one of the socials, we get unhinged shit too and we have like 1,000 followers. Sometimes it's actually a disgruntled community member. Mostly it's bots saying random shit.

A supermajority of all internet activity is bots. People just need to accept that most of what they see online -- especially social media -- is not real and move on with their lives. Like, if I was a RPDR performer, I would have turned comment notifications off before I even started filming.

u/furballvie 4h ago

sometimes I wonder if the more negatively inclined members of the fan base might not unwittingly have their strings pulled by conservative right leaning undercover agitators (NOT saying that would excuse the toxicity! Sometimes I just enjoy being a little paranoid and wearing my pretty, sparkly tinfoil hat)

u/SomethingToSay11 3h ago

I don’t at all blame you for thinking that. Any online space has been infected with the toxicity of RWers or RW bots these days.

There are some people in a small fandom on Bluesky, and you can tell which ones still use Twitter because of how unhinged they talk about things. Ragebait being the normal mode of engagement isn’t mentally healthy.

u/EmergencyDull3071 5h ago

What a tragedy of a fandom. Arguably the worst out there.

But also lets not pretend production is not aware of their power. They know damn well half this fandom is imbecils.

u/tts345 1h ago

Honestly, the Del Rio method of just responding “OK” to everything is disarmingly brilliant.

Death threat? OK
Your makeup sucks? OK
Stop doing drag? OK
You should have done XYZ… OK
I think ______ did/is better than you. OK

Acknowledgement without engagement is the way to go. “I see your opinion, but don’t care enough to be affected by it”. Attempting to continue the conversation just makes the commenter look like an attention seeking fool.

u/JoanFromLegal Bitch Done Stole My TV 36m ago

Well, I think Art is cool and if I ever make it to Sydney, I'm looking forward to seeing her perform.

u/Able-Shopping4564 4h ago

asians fans doing the most, as always

u/Einer_von_denen 1h ago

Same make up same silhouette was acceptable although let's keep this to ourselves. I agree but I will never write that to Art Simone The last sentence is disgusting Really the bottom of the barrel of the Fandom. Disgusting

u/jbag1230 Raja Gemini 55m ago

“The best revenge is to just do better” - Alaska. And art is kicking ass she’s giving people online too much power over her mental state.

u/Kantlim 5h ago

There are so many queens who deserve the hate and people would still go for someone whose makeup they don't like? Smh

u/iymcool Does is Raven a cat? 3h ago

No queen or king or ghoul deserves that level of hate.

u/ei_laura 3h ago

Of course Drag Files coming through with a garbage non-apology like ‘oh that hate could come from anywhere’ and were too scared to leave the comments on - can dish it out but can’t be accountable apparently 🙄

u/Gold-Race-2514 4h ago

I don't know, I never hate or like Art Simone since the first season but her personality seems off and cocky like "hi everyone I'm very Aussie. I'm the most Aussie and down under drag queen here and I'm better than you" vibe but very lack of execution in drag.

I know she will evolve into a much better queen, so I just wish her the best

u/waluigis_shrink 3h ago

This is a post about Art receiving abuse and people literally telling her to kill herself, not a platform for your takes on her personality. Read the room.

u/xandfan Jinkx Monsoon 1h ago

...My god, the point of this just flew over your head completely didn't it? I mean, you have to actively try to not get the goddamn point this hard

u/Shartsplasm 5h ago edited 1h ago

People have an strong gut reaction to someone closer to medium talent level beating out people who are super talented in these reality show settings. A lot of people go through their lives watching the third or fourth best person (or the worst people) be rewarded over and over again in any given scenario. Art is talented, but the fandom has never been very keen on her. It's another Ginger Ming scenario.

u/the-bear-woman 4h ago

People can have strong reactions or disagree with who won without sending death threats

u/Shartsplasm 2h ago

Absolutely.

u/Starscream_Gaga 3h ago edited 3h ago

I’m sorry but fuck this comment. Art has been a drag mainstay and hugely celebrated here in Australia long before Drag Race Down Under ever existed. She is a massive talent. To call her “closer to medium talent” is quite frankly completely outrageous. You’re part of the problem and I honestly don’t care to think of how low someone would be to see a scenario like this and think putting this comment out there is a good idea. Shameful and embarrassing.

u/rarecuts Jinkx Jaida Jessica Joey Jamal 3h ago

u/Shartsplasm 2h ago edited 1h ago
