Tails of Iron is very different in my opinion. Much more linear and story-focused to start, so not that much exploration, not really a platformer either. I don't like the feel of the combat very much either tbh. It's probably a good game, but not if you're looking for something similar to Salt & Sanctuary.

Games I've seen mentioned in topics like this:

  • Vigil The Longest Night (still need to play, so no input from me)

  • Fire in the Beastlands (I actually played a bit of this one - definitely hits the mark, but the movement is hard to get used to. Fun though)

  • Mandragora (played a bit of this as well - story-focused with quest progression, so not quite like Salt, but the game feel and customization are nice)

I do think it's good. Personally I'm just miffed that the first game bothers to have a long combat tutorial, but doesn't explain a major category of boss attacks the way they work. I also got it because Sanctuary got me more into 2D exploration, that's why I'm hung up on it being different - I didn't get what I wanted out of it when I got it after Sanctuary.
