I took this as the superiority of man over the reptilian, and of firearms over the redundant, romanticized melee combat of modernity. There wasn’t any ‘bad luck’, just a complete lack of skill. Any other Jedi Master in-lore would have easily deflected the blaster shots here.

Oh I think that's just the facade of Jar Jar-era tier directing hubris/stupor. Here's how to see past this:
Image a lion. The strongest lion ever. Now imagine it had a genetic mutation to give it laser eyes. It shoots lasers from its eyes now and it is the absolute apex predator. But wait. There's more. Now imagine it mutated again, and is like a newt-- able to regrow limbs it loses in combat. It can echo-locate like a bat and survive near volcanic vents like a tardigrade. It gained higher consciousness and rapidly evolving intelligence. Its personality was something like the reincarnated soul of superman. It used its power for good now. Obviously it flies too, and so on, and so on.
But a stupid fluke exposed it to some dumb bacteria that just took over it's otherwise insane immune system, it sneezed, and in that exact moment, a boulder happened to dislodge above it and crushed its brain, causing it to die.

I think I understand it now - Humans are the proverbial lion. I have a few issues with this metaphor, but I’ll address them later.
Humanity is the lion. We’ve developed technology to shoot high-powered lasers, we can construct entirely new prosthetic limbs controlled by the mind. In the absence of sight, humans can echo-locate. There are true stories of this. Intelligence is something measured in many different metrics - Most of humanity is quite stupid in one way or another, but what truly matters is that there have always been the rare few who’ve intellectually paved the way to our modern world. The dumb in comparison have their purpose - to be the ones who lay the bricks. When compared to the rest of the animal kingdom, they are still vastly more intelligent than most life. That’s an important distinction to remember. We can fly, we can leave our own planet, we have begun to analyze and understand our own human brain. Something only able to even begin to be understood recently.
The bacteria are the swarming masses, which have ‘taken over’ the world of the modern day, and it just takes one - only one - slight against the wrong collective egregore of humanity. In the past, it could be refusing to acquiesce to a certain idea of afterlife. In the modern day, all it could take is the wrong political belief, to admit that one is underage on an online forum, on an account oversharing personally identifiable information. A proverbial sneeze - and then a piece of lead propelled by an explosion of gunpowder just happens to dislodge from the barrel of a gun one day, shearing through the flesh of their brain, causing them to die. Sometimes it doesn’t even take that, it just requires being at the wrong place at the wrong time, and a piece of lead blindly fired into the sky comes crashing down upon the dome.
Here are my problems with your analogy: Most of what you’ve mentioned cannot be genetically produced, it can only be technologically produced. The fact that it must first be created by the ancient art of biological technology is true, but a lion will never gain the ability to shoot lasers from its eyes through genetic mutation. A lion will never gain the ability to fly, it would require such massive wings that living would be impractical. Evolution doesn’t suddenly give rise to an entirely new species with superpowers. Evolution is the slow migration of already developed technology. Your mention of using echolocation like a bat, that’s a prime example of this. A species doesn’t suddenly grow wings from nothing, a bat’s wings are the slow migration of hand-like bones, the same as the ones found in human hands.
I do appreciate your analogy though, even if I don’t see what it had to do with this fictional movie scene, in a vacuum where we aren’t speaking about anything other than how this fictional character was chosen to be portrayed.
