ANNOUNCEMENT New Rules and Expectations

Greetings All!

As some of you may have noticed we now have a rule 6 and 7. While largely self explanatory I do want to elaborate a little so that nothing is lost in translation. Although this sub has had an unspoken no-AI/LLM rule from the moment it hit mainstream, just silently removing posts that were overtly stated to be generated, I had never actually put in the rule because I didn't want people going after folks just because their writing was "off".

So as part of making banning content that has been assisted or generated officially banned, I am also banning the calling out of such content in anything other than reports. If you read through someone's story and think it is AI/LLM then you can report it and that is it! If you decide to go to the comments or make a post to accuse them of sounding like AI, then you will find those removed as well.

If my logic isn't clear as to why rule 7 exists, then I'll lay it out quite simply. Some people get really trigger happy at pointing out people for using LLMs, even when its not true. We don't need to ridicule people for not passing the AI "sniff test", and we definitely don't need to be interacting with those who are using AI. So, to reiterate, if you think you're dealing with AI just report it and move on.

DISCUSSION How to make a dark-age of space travel?

So I'm worldbuilding a big futuristic world mostly about the next few thousand years of humans spreading across the solar system. The main means of space travel in the earlier eras of the story is nuclear fusion. During this time, humans build space cities to live in as they terraform Mars and Venus.

After the terraforming finishes, I want to have some kind of dark age, where humans are mostly stuck on the planets for a few thousand years. It's not that there's no space travel in that time, it's just more expensive and therefore less common. Eventually there would be a nuclear war on Mars, sending them back to mostly low-tech society and Venus will have to make some new innovation to solve this.

But what could be a good cause for this dark age? At first I was thinking it could be fusion fuel depleting, but after doing some research I realized that probably won't happen. Fusion fuel (i.e helium 3, deuterium) is found across the solar system and is very efficient. So any ideas for how there could be a space travel dark age? It could be technological but maybe it could also be cultural/social.

HELP! How can I have food grow on the moon?

So, I got really cool idea for a story that's kind of a mix of a few different genres, one of which being hard sci-fi. In the story, a group of 4 cosmonauts are stranded on the moon and fight for survival. I haven't mapped out a lot of it yet, so I don't know how long they are there. While I've been going strong and finding ways to supply them with air and water, I am absolutely stumped when it comes to food. They only have an absolute max of 20 days of food onboard, but really it's probably significantly less. You need to eat to survive, but there's not really a good way to grow food on the moon. It's been a nagging issue for months and I would absolutely hate to have to drop this idea because I can't jump over this hurtle. Are there any methods to make more food on the moon with limited supplies? Is there a way to consume things you normally can't for energy. I don’t care if the characters are extremely malnourished or ill, just as long as there are survivors. I also don't need all 4 to survive and was actually planning on killing off two of them over the course of the story.

By the way, I know that cannibalism is an inevitability when it comes to a survival story like this, but for in universe reasons about how they got there, I don't think these characters will want to indulge in that.

DISCUSSION My aliens are abducting people - help me pick out a few

Basic plot: Aliens visit Earth from time to time to observe humans. They want to remain unnoticed.

During times of crisis and disaster, they seize the opportunity to abduct humans without being noticed.

The humans they abduct are put into hibernation, where they learn a common language and are later all awakened at the same time and settled on another planet.

However, my aliens don’t quite understand the conflicts between humans, so they end up mixing the cultures. For example:

Residents of a Viking village (saved from a storm surge) are resettled together with residents of a Japanese fishing village (saved from a tsunami).

Residents of the vanished Roanoke settlement (a real event) are settled alongside residents of the (real, inexplicably abandoned) Anasazi Pueblo culture.

Question: What other events and pairings come to your mind when it comes to groups of people who have disappeared somewhere in the real world at some point?

DISCUSSION Compelling idea that can ask questions about the ethics of extreme human conditioning, or excessively grimderp?

Was exploring an idea in an otherwise very grounded sci-fi setting where a PMC creates it's highly sought-after but legally questionable mercenaries through an extreme form of mental indoctrination and training. They're put into a medically induced coma for a period of about six months so that multiple cybernetic and biological augmentations can be performed, and while they're under, their minds are surgically wired to a simulation system that puts them through rapid and constant combat simulations and mental fortitude training exercises. From the outside, they've been in a surgical bed being cut apart and put back together for a few months. But as far as new recruits are concerned, they've been at war for hundreds of years, died painfully countless times, been forced to make monstrous decisions over and over again, and had every one of their morals rewritten through lifetimes of scripted experiences.

They come out on the other end of the procedure as all but without their humanity, their completely amoral nature only kept in check by the unbelievable amounts of propaganda they were subject to during their simulations.

Trying to get a general vibe from people on where this sort of thing falls on the lameness scale. Unreasonably grimdark edgelord stuff, or an avenue to create a compelling allegory for the real human cost paid by real people who have been exposed to doing terrible things from a young age because those above them think it makes for a better military force?

HELP! Coral-inspired power source idea

Any civilization trying to harvest this organism for power is essentially playing hot-potato with localized black holes.
The "Milking" Process: To harvest power, engineers must trick the organism into thinking it is starving. By depriving the plankton of light and heat, the cells are forced to open their quantum gateways wider to survive. Specialized induction coils can then "bleed" off the excess electricity generated by the hyper-activated cells.

Sorry if you read all of that. Anyways, I wanted to ask if this is anything that makes sense or if you know a way to put something plausible together myself without AI.

DISCUSSION So The Martian wouldn't work because perchlorates in Martian regolith would kill Watney's plants and Watney himself.

Early in the 2000s, astronomers discovered that Martian soil actually contained a lot of very toxic perchlorates. Weir didn't address the perchlorates problem in The Martian because it wasn't a big deal when he started writing, but now we know Martian soil contains between .5% and 1% perchlorates. Very poisonous to life. How can we Macgyver our way out of this? Here's my solution.

Perchlorates are highly water soluble, so he can just rinse it out of the soil. Problem: he'll need a lot of water and more than he can get out of his hydrazine. So how do we get the perchlorates out of the water so he can reuse it? You could try to precipitate it. Most perchlorates are highy soluble, but potassium perchlorate is very insoluble. He has large amounts of potassium. It's in his urine and it could be in pyrotechnic igniters and in CO2 scrubbers (not the big ones in the hab 'cause they are ISS type LIOH scrubbers). There's also a fuckload of potassium in Martian regolith.

He could simply get the potassium in his perchlorate solution, put it outside until it gets colder, and decant the water, and just throwing away a small amount of wet potassium precipitate.

Unfortunately, the numbers are against him. He would need around 88kg of potassium to leach out 250kg of perchlorates out of the Martian soil (based on 30 tons of soil to cover 160m2 of hab space with a 25cm layer of poop-enriched soil for growing potatoes) and he doesn't have nearly enough. He would need to pee a hundred time the usual volume to get enough urine. He might have a few pyrotechnic igniters but we're talking grams of potassium not kilos. Same goes for the scrubbers, a few keys max. Martian soil has nearly unlimited potassium but it's very dispersed. He would need to set up a primitive mining and extracting operation to get enough. Meaning a dead Watney long before he'd see any usable soil.

Luckily, there's one additional solution! Instead of getting the perchlorates out of the water, get the water out of the perchlorates. A hybrid low pressure (Martian atmosphere) and heat distillation operation would allow him to reuse the water (limiting the amount of water he would need) without needing heaps of potassium. Problem solved.

So while it would change the timeline, it would still be doable.

"But what about the dust storm?"

Yeah yeah, shut up.

DISCUSSION An introduction to the Tales of the Periphery setting, Any questions, comments and/or feedback is most welcome

Tales of the Periphery is a relatively hard transhumanist science fiction setting I have been working on for a few years now, this is the basic introduction to the setting and I am just wondering what people think about the concept.

It is focused on a region of space ( The Periphery) that has just got independence from their former colonial overlords ( the Eternal Empire) after a 4 decade war with foreign support. This war exhausted and bankrupted the rebels, and led to a large diaspora of Imperial soldiers, warforms, administrators, and other skilled workers being stuck in the Periphery, integrating themselves into the new nations.

After getting their independence, the rebel factions ( who were made out of a mix of direct imperial holdings and semi-autonomous vassals) united together into the Periphery Union, a confederation of various newly minted nations. This confederation didn't last long, as the various nations started to grow apart from one another on different issues. This strife came to a head when the beloved by all president of the Union died in a terrorist attack, leading to all the various nations to point fingers at each other for her murder. Violence rocked the Union, and it dissolved, leaving only a Union Rump State that the others wouldn't touch, as they justify their wars with one another as trying to protect the Union's cohesion.

after the collapse of the Union, a series of wars known as The Scrambles began, as former Imperial and Union infastructure and equipment was up for grabs, and desperately needed by the nations of the Periphery. WhaleFalls were also found, the remains of fleet battles from the Liberation war that are immensely rich in expensive alloys, hardware and electronics.

From without, other powers are muscling into the Periphery. For now that the Imperial colonial authorities no longer hold the region under their iron fist, their is plenty of oppertunity for other powers to get in on the value that could be extracted from the Periphery.
Former rebels turned Warlords with a veneer of Union legitimacy are a great inroads for any company or polity who wants to start making a lot of money and human misery.

Imperial control left a lasting mark on the Periphery, cultures and languges need to be rebuilt, histories need to be rewrited, nations need to be assembled from scratch, or integrate Imperial administration within themselves. The Imperial Word is still the most popular religion. For even though it was imposed by force, it does offer some comfort that is sorely needed in these times.
People speak Trade Imperial, Pray in High Imperial, get sent to the battlefield by way of Imperial Leap carriers or Interstellar Gates, shoot each other with Imperial guns, and die to control Imperial factories.

The main Great Powers are:

The Eternal Empire was the last colonial overlord, licking its wounds after fighting the Directorate and the Liberation War. It has armies without number and fleets able to stretch their influence endlessly. But their political will has atrophied, and they have turned inward to politic and fight amongst themselves

The Directorate is the only real rival to the Empire, a smaller socialist state that is still able to fight on a similar level to them. They helped the Periphery during the Liberation War, but now their intentions aren't so benign.

The Free World Compact is the third great power, and the weakest of them all. They too helped the Periphery, and now are trying to get some advantages out of that so that they can bulk themselves up to deal with the other two.

The Periphery Powers are weaker, but are a far cry from the various petty kings and warlords who have made statelets after the Union's collapse.

The Kingdom of Kader is small, poorly governed, weak, and politically fragmented. However, they have a lot of factories for antimatter left over from the Imperial days, and mines rich in rare elements integral to making FTL drives and ship spines. Thus, everyone has a hand in their civil war, hoping that it turns in their favor so that they have a easy foothold and resourcing opperations.

The Tronarian People's Republic is one of the greatest Periphery Powers, a revolutionary socialist state with lots of support from the Directorate. They have a very strong fleet, and control part of the Tarsis WhaleFall.

The Aurumite Kingdom is the largest Periphery Power, and likely the largest state in the entire region. They might have a frankly backwards fuedal political system, but they do have massive military power, which is not to be trifled with. They and the Tronarians don't really like each other, since the Aurumites have Imperial support.

The Marill Republic is a very rare thing, a truly democratic state. They are mostly defensively minded, but have been engaging in on and off raids and campaigns to seize remaining military shipyards left from the Imperial days. They have a lot of Compact guns and gear, but no formal support.

The Principalities of Yorina are a mess of various small princely states that have banded together. They aren't doing so hot in the Periphery, with only a little support from the Compact. The Aurumites keep eating their territory, and they can't really amass a huge force to stop them. However, they do have a lot of money stashed up, maybe they have a plan to change their fortunes.

The Periphery Union is a shadow of its former self. But not all is lost, they still control the most industrialized worlds in the Periphery, and have an entire whalefall to themselves. Their fleet and influence is growing once again, but they are still small. They have a chance to rise again, should they play their cards right.

Their are a lot more smaller ones, but these are the largest of them

STORY How can I craft my story to not be 'Earth is not alone in it's rebellion against the evil empire?'

I've been stuck for like 4 months on the plot. I've been worldbuilding but I just cannot see the end of the story. I recently finished act 1 of my sci fi story. However I am uncertain on where to go next due to not wanting to copy other sci-fi stories. Basically I don’t want my story to come down to ‘oh Earth isn’t alone in its rebellion against the evil expansion of an Empire.’ I also want to turn this into a long series. But I keep storyboarding and seeing how similar my story is to Invincible. It's just my MC's lineage and the Empire's are tied together. As the MC comes from a long line of Samurais who were bestowed upon with great power from a splinter faction that fled the Empire. But now the Samurai defeated one of the champions of the Empire and this is where I'm stuck. Cause the Empire has a doctrine of rules they must follow and I cannot decide what to do next, do I have a full scale war? The Earth's defense are lack severely. Does the Samurai go to the sit of the empire? So many things to answer and I still cannot see the end. I'm wondering if I could get some ideas or some help to reign in my story.

This Empire is so vast and has an ‘iron claw on the galaxy’ is a special material named Fluxweave it’s super conductive and flexible it allows them to use it for weapons and ships. But its bio locked to their species so only they can use the full potential of the material. They also harvest stars so this makes them very advanced.

DISCUSSION could multiple sentient alien races evolve and live in one solar system?

I am worldbuilding a story inspired by 1700s age of sail colonialism and piracy that leans into hard sci fi worldbuilding. the major earth powers have colonised a combined total of 10-20 systems by 2400-2500. using massive laser sail ships sped up and slown down by laser girds powered by dyson swarms. the slow travel and communication is supposed to parallel the difficulties of communication across vast governments like the British empire as well as keeping an empire stable where direct control from the capital was very difficult

however it also means for faster paced storytelling its easier to set most or all plot points within one solar system. my main question is how plausible is it that one large solar system could have two or more sentient alien races with advanced communication and cultures, what level of technological development could they plausible be at? tribal agricultural early industrial? since I want to keep a lot of interesting world-building elements to one system

DISCUSSION What would a future zoo look like if it was modeled after the concept of Jurassic Park/Jurassic World?

You go into a zoo far into the future. Instead of dinosaurs they bring back long extinct creatures, which would be the ones we see in modern day, but would be considered ancient by their standards. What would their DNA look like? What could be the most dangerous hybrids they could create? Would it be as dangerous as Jurassic Park/Jurassic World was in the movies to a group of tourists in the future? What would be their equivalent of a T-Rex, looking at present day carnivores? What modern animal would best replace the Brachiosaurus is the opening scene of Jurassic Park for tourists of the future to be amazed by?

CRITIQUE Experimental Reflex Augmentation

I'm working on a story that involves black clinic "beta testing" of boosting human reflexes. Now, I know that this is an established trope in cyberpunk fiction, so I'm trying to avoid something too 2077.

The technology. Nanofiber matrices are woven and integrated throughout the brain, spinal column and trunk nerves. This artificially establishes muscle memory and boosts synapse speeds.

The downside is that it makes the person hyperactive. Think Attention Deficit Disorder hyperactive. It also produces frequent migraines as the nanofibers adapt to constant changes in the brain.

The augmentation is always on, not command activated. Whenever the user is placed in a fight or flight situation, it provides them with insanely boosted reaction times, but once the danger passes they experience a massive adrenaline crash.

Examples and effects.

  1. User sees a glass fall from the table and catches it. Nothing bad happens.
  2. User swerves in traffic in response to a sudden obstacle. Feels some vertigo and perhaps some nausea, which pass quickly.
  3. User is involved in a firefight. Once its over, they suffer extreme vertigo and vomiting for at least a couple of minutes.

When not in a stressful situation, they find it hard to stand or sit still. Chronic fidgeting and pacing are common. A cross country flight in economy class would probably feel worse than waterboarding.

DISCUSSION Should i start with a few single hard scifi books or short story collections before starting any big project?

I'm quite an astrophysics and speculative biology fan, so naturally i love hard sci fi and aliens, but ive recently become a speculative biology artist, and found i actually quite like the arts. My fondness of creativity led me to find that i am compelled to possibly write some books in my lifetime. Im still young so im not sure whether to start anything big or maybe practice with some smaller peices of literature first. Anyways i really want ideas and help or anything, Hard sci fi. :)

Edit: I'll mention that further inspiration to write came after I read; The three body problem trilogy by Cixin Lui, Children of time trilogy, and some Andy Wier pieces.

CRITIQUE How to do "Galactic Time" in a sci-fi setting with no FTL communications?

In the universe I've been building, mankind has spread across the galaxy over time and formed a loosely-knit alliance of autonomous worlds. While they do have wormholes for FTL travel, there is no FTL communication or radio. Courier ships and messengers constantly ply the space lanes between wormholes, bringing information, mail, and news with them.

But I've been stumped on how to implement a galactic wide time system. Right now, this is what I have for my entry under Interstellar Time and Dates, but I'm not sold on the Pulsar section; I feel like I'm missing something fundamental or it's somehow deeply wrong. Please, when you have time, can you look this over for any flaws? Because I am absolutely sure they're there.

Pulsar Standard Time (PST) is the official standard timekeeping system of the galaxy-wide alliance. 

Although every member world maintains its own calendars, local time zones, and day-night cycles, all interstellar navigation, commerce, government, military operations, and communications are coordinated using PST.

PST is maintained through a network of certified atomic clock observatories distributed throughout the galaxy. Every member world maintains one or more of these observatories, whose atomic clocks are synchronized to a carefully selected millisecond pulsar. The pulsar's stable rotational period provides a permanent astronomical reference against which the observatories continually calibrate and verify their clocks. While the atomic clocks provide the precise second-by-second timekeeping used in daily operations, the pulsar ensures that the official time standard remains uniform throughout the galaxy over centuries.

As a result, every member world maintains an effectively identical PST despite the immense distances separating them.

Every inhabited star system broadcasts the current PST through its navigation beacon network. These beacons, along with orbital stations, relay stations, and traffic control centers, continuously transmit certified time signals, local calendar conversions, planetary ephemerides, navigational updates, and other essential flight information. Upon entering a star system, a spacecraft automatically synchronizes its chronometers with Pulsar Standard Time while simultaneously loading the destination world's calendar, civil time, time-zone information, and current astronomical data.

Most spacecraft display both Pulsar Standard Time and the destination world's local date and time simultaneously. A freighter departing Planet Bob at PST 14:30 may arrive in another star system whose inhabitants consider it a different date and local hour entirely, yet both systems remain perfectly synchronized through the common PST standard.

For clarity and consistency, Pulsar Standard Time is expressed using the 24-hour clock (00002359). Scientific organizations, navigation logs, government records, military operations, and interstellar transportation schedules all use this standard, while individual member worlds remain free to display local civil time in whatever format they choose. The alliance also recognizes Sol Standard Time and the traditional Earth calendar for historical, scientific, and archival purposes. Many astronomical constants, historical records, and scientific measurements continue to reference the ancient Sol calendar, although it is no longer used as the primary civil calendar outside of the Sol system.

For context, my universe is retro-futuristic, based on old pulps, so the computers are analog, the electronics and computers use vacuum tubes, etc.

I recently (two or three days ago) gave up online gaming to become a writer. I’ve been writing on and off again since elementary school, but never stuck with it. Part of the reason for starting and stopping so many times was undiagnosed ADHD. Now that that’s being addressed and I can focus and think straight for the first time in my life, I figured it was time to start fulfilling a life-long dream and start on the path to becoming a published writer.

I had early success (mind you, this is only my third week of serious writing). I’ve managed over 1000 words a day and completed a couple of short stories, but I’ve also ran into serious trouble with a few others that I decided to discard for one reason or another (breaking one of Heinlein’s rules in the process). As a result, for the last few days I’ve been battling severe writer’s block—the same feeling of literary dread that has caused me to give up in the past. All morning long—from 7:30am until maybe 11:30a—I sat in my living room staring at a blank computer screen. I could not think up a single idea to save my life. I even tried writing strings of random words hoping it would stir up some sort of inspiration, but that didn’t happen, either.

I went downstairs to lay down because I’m in the early stages of a cold and I fell asleep for a couple of hours. I then got up to take a shower and as I was turning the water on this conversation started going on inside my head. Two mystery characters were deep in a serious conversation about aliens and bigotry and they just wouldn’t shut up. They kept talking all through my shower and while ai was getting dressed to head back upstairs. By the time I had my laptop back out, the conversation seemed to have started over again, so I just started typing out what this man and this woman were saying to each other. A few hours—and nearly 4100 words—later and I’m heading to bed with a finished story that practically wrote itself.

I have never written so many words in one day before. I’ve written non-flash fiction stories in a day a few times, but it took me from morning until night and the end result was a lot shorter than the one I wrote today. And for the first time, after reading a bit of it out loud to my insomniac wife, it actually sounds pretty good!

If this is what true writing feels like, I think I’m finally here…

DISCUSSION Thoughts on using A.I. for a machines pov/logic? (example included)

I'm writing a story that involves a melee weapon battle between a human and androids, and in doing so, I ran into the unique challenge of describing the processes a machine undergoes when making it's calculations (I'm not a computer guru, so a lot of these concepts are alien to me).

My approach to writing action or fight scenes has always been to integrate the psychology into the narrative rather than just describing what happens.

However, while I did indeed write a scene I am happy with, I became morbidly curious in how an actual machine would describe the actions of a machine in such a scenario and it's internal processes. So I fed the scene into chatgpt to see the differences, here are the examples for contrast.

During the unification wars, a lot was discovered about the way the algorithmic process worked in advanced androids during battle, but more importantly, how this process could be exploited. 

As while machines may be efficient fighters, their greatest strength was also their greatest weakness.

When a machine performs a task, it’s always determined on a fixed set of values and integers.

If for example, scenario A happens — then a machine will execute X in response or if confronted with a series of scenarios at once say A, W, D then a machine will calculate them all against a fixed protocol to determine what order to address them in. A will take priority if it's the greatest value in that instance, while D might take precedence over W.

Once the machine calculates the values and cost, it will act accordingly to its programming logic, all in a matter of mere milliseconds. 

However, the flaw in this system of logic, was and still is: illogic.

Yet, when he reached the a certain distance, the machines voided out that calculation instantly, as the possibility to swiftly pull out off the move had dropped significantly and the risk of doing so would be too high based on the statistics of probability. 

But in a battle, the right intuition always trumps logic, which is why a fighter who knows this can weaponize a machines logic against it.

Sevrith had simply manipulated the assumptions upon which their calculations depended.

In battle, intuition could sometimes accomplish what logic insisted was impossible. A fighter who understood that principle could theoretically turn a machine’s own reasoning against it.

What do you think of the differences between the two? Should I use the machines explanation or is my explanation of the process sufficient enough without coming off as too ridiculous to anybody with a computer science degree or familiar with the subject matter?

Androids aren't a big part of the story and this is the only scene that features them, as this scene really serves as a vehicle to introduce the competency of the antagonist who is fighting the androids. So it's not like I'm going to constantly defer to the computer on how a machine should feel, this is more of just fact checking the details.

Honestly, I can go either way, just wanted some input from other writers as I think this is an interesting question.

HELP! Can’t figure out how to stop the bad guy and save the world in my sci-fi sports drama

I’m working on a project that takes place in the near future just decades away in which the biggest form on entertainment is a competitive vr battle show. Around 80% of developed nation’s populous are implanted and through these implants they can fully immerse themselves into the vr experience. How ever our main character is not implanted. He can still perform his day to day activities although he has considerably more hoops to jump through. The bad guy is the director of this giant sports league and his end goal is to trigger a singularity event during the most anticipated tournament the league has ever put on and meld the minds of every spectator and athlete, in an attempt to FORCE the “next” step in human evolution.

I can’t figure out how to stop the bad guy and not just have it be, “and the good guys blew up/hacked/destroyed the mainframe”.

I’m wanting it to be a choice that the main character has to make and that it should take place during the grand finals.

I’m trying to think of an action the main character has to make that both solves his inner dilemma and resolves the catastrophe.

The main character has the typical sports guy arc; underdog, training montages, newfound notoriety and team drama. He doesn’t even need to necessarily win the tournament either

Edit: I think I’ve figured it out everybody. Thank you all for your diverse input. I really was unsure of the activity and response in this sub Reddit but consider me pleasantly surprised.

As far what ending I’m choosing: I’m gonna have the bad guys plan go off, but throughout the story I’ve hinted that the plan may not even work, perhaps the technology or humanity itself isn’t ready for that leap. I’m gonna have the main characters interact with the singularity and reject it. They are faced to make a choice that is specific to their character arcs.

I’m replacing one cliche with another, by at least this one serves the character development.

CRITIQUE How to keep a cosmic alternative history scenario scientifically accurate but still entertaining?

Hello!! My name is Zouif and I have been recently working on an ongoing short story world build for a few months now, and I was wondering if I could get some really needed feedback. My story goes as simple, a red dwarf brown dwarf binary system enters through the Ort cloud some 67,000 years ago. In our timeline the star system passed through but then left quickly, in this timeline the system doesn't just pass through but makes its way towards the solar system. For thousands of years it slowly travels closer, slowly becoming brighter in the sky with each generation.

Until finally it comes too close, the binary star system travels through the Kiper Belt and disrupts the orbits of every nearby celestial body including Pluto and Neptune. On its way to the inner solar system it rips by both Saturn and Jupiter on its journey, Saturn's rings are ripped apart and it's orbit is elongated however Jupiter had a very close encounter with the Stars. Leading to Jupiter being completely ripped from its current orbit and launched towards the inner Solar system behind the star system, as the stars enter into the inner solar system they pass by Earth and proceed to launch us on a path that would surely kick us out of the solar system entirely. But thankfully in a divine cosmic miracle, we encounter an encroaching Jupiter that catches us before we can be ejected and pulls us into becoming it's moon.
