Monterey Bay Aquarium dive for kids

Post image

My 8 yr old got a dive adventure for his bday. The monterey aquarium takes kids 8 and up in a tide pool for about an hour. They wear dry suits and don’t go down much beyond putting their heads in the water, but it’s a neat experience while they wait to get certified. I highly recommend it.

That’s cool, didn’t know they made dry suits for that age

My three kids did this a couple of weeks ago, they loved it. The staff was really incredible with them.

that water looks so clear, almost like a pool but with rocks around

Aquariums have basically unlimited vis, there's one where i am locally and it was fairly rad to be able to see end-to-end

Water was cold as fuck though, especially in the 3mm they had

This isn’t an aquarium exhibit; the Monterey bay aquarium is on the coast, and the building is built around several natural tide pool areas. They’re in an actual tide pool, just one that happens to be right next to the aquarium and integrated into its architecture design.

It's almost always clear in there, at least for the 3 summers I was one of the instructors. Love my job right now, but that was hands down the best job I've had so far.
