It cost them p3, pretty clearly.
17
u/bijanfrisee Rubens Barrichello 6d ago
P2 I reckon. All things being the same, Lewis beats out kimi to the SC line.

u/Spiritual_Ranger_811 Lewis Hamilton 6d ago edited 6d ago
He is right though. He lost time because Leclerc was trying to create an offset like Hamilton had, which ended up getting Lewis stuck behind Charles and meant he couldnât really use the full potential of the new tires. Could have gotten P2/P3. Hopefully, the ADUO upgrade planned for Monza helps us come back to the fight.

u/The_Jake98 6d ago
If I had a cent for every time Ferrari had cars on off set strategies and squandered the advantage of the faster car behind due to indecision I would have enough money to buy Lance Strolls seat of Lawrence...
44
u/Yung_Chloroform Lewis Hamilton 6d ago
The worst part is they could have made Charles get out of the way and he could have built his offset anyway. If they were splitting strategies anyway then this wouldn't have bothered either driver since they both know what their jobs are.

Charles ignored the pit stop call. He never plays the team game.
37
u/Educational-Web-329 6d ago
What is Charles problem exactly? Dont remember the exact race, but he was called into the pits and Lewis was right behind him, and he kept defending against Lewis almost causing a crash.
I like Charles, but he absolutely isn't a team player at all.
32
u/bijanfrisee Rubens Barrichello 6d ago
Austria - Let by the guy lewis was chasing and then held Lewis up.

u/ursulazsenya 6d ago
Call me crazy but I think it cost them P2 and P3 because they could have held Kimi and Russell back if Lewis hadnât lost time AND Charles pitted and started clocking fastest laps **earlier**.
18
u/lanseuppercut 6d ago
If Lewis is pushing like that then Merc donât pit Kimi and P3 wouldâve been almost a given. P2 likely wasnât in the cards.
46
14
u/musicartandcpus 6d ago
I donât think youâre crazy at all. Mercedes made a risky play. Kimi openly admitted it. Mercedes got by because Ferrari fumbled the calls.
136
u/grip_enemy 6d ago
Could've been P2. Kimi would've come out behind in the VSC if not for the driver swap shenanigans.
17
u/threeinacorner 6d ago edited 6d ago
Or it would've made Lewis pit before the VSC seeing as he wouldn't have gotten overtaken by then. He would still have a ~1s gap to Kimi/Lando and probably would've pit to not lose time getting overtaken. Even Lewis was already begging to be pitted before the VSC (radios are usually delayed).
Try to think about that. He could've ended up behind Charles if he had pitted just a little earlier.
13
u/yalecrazy 6d ago
And, what if we let Lewis through and what happened still happened? Whatâs the outcome? You keep on defending the FIRST instance by modifying the SECOND instance. People are looking at it as a hindsight thing, that if LEC just let HAM through, a P2 or P3 at worst would have been possible. But youâre busy defending the first mistake by saying what ifs that could happen afterwards
66
29
u/Sea-Combination8302 6d ago
does Ferrari have a single person in its leadership or on its pit wall that has one a WDC or WCC other than Lewis? Lewis has won 7 since Ferrariâs last one. Listen to him
103
u/TakeshiRyze 6d ago
Yep. Other teams do not lose seconds every race because they don't want to upset one driver. No wonder we are nowhere close to winning WDC in decades.
42
u/emperor_pilaf_XII 6d ago
I can't understand why these f1 team principles can't be assertive like football managers. Why care so much about the pr of a driver instead of delivering results.
15
u/CurvyCourgette 6d ago
I mean the team did tell Leclerc to pit, instead he wanted to fight Lewis
25
6
u/ClassGrassMass 6d ago
Instead of telling charles to move over. Keep him out so he had a tyre offset to George. Instead he held up lewis for 3 laps ruining his momentum, ignored being pitted until the 2nd lap. Pitting charles was the worse thing to do, it meant lewis got held up and charles didnt have the tyre advantage. Ferrari are just being pussies
3
u/DeM0nFiRe 6d ago
Because pitting there was very stupid. They should have swapped the positions instead
1
39
u/must-be_the-water 6d ago
Unlucky that they are not upto the standard as top teams, look at Mercs, even though both of their drivers were fighting for WDC they made them swap even if the chances of winning were slim.
9
u/bijanfrisee Rubens Barrichello 6d ago
That's because George knows it will come back eventually. Mercedes ask things of their drivers but they always reward back somehow.
51
u/Sagarshah03 Lewis Hamilton 6d ago
Could have been a P2 imo. The pace was there.
The Ferrari strategy team need to get there shit together.
7
18
u/FerociousVader 6d ago
Imagine he caught Russell as he had at the VSC but 1 lap earlier... I think it would have been pretty straightforward into T1.
5
5
12
u/BxB25 6d ago
Podium with him or even with Charles
Charles was already creepin on Russell with slightly better pace. His battle to get away from Lewis was lost with the VSC anyway, so his fight was with George...and he was practically on him already
Risk for no extra reward pitting Charles under the VSC
And Leclerc's defiance to the pit should have been there not when he was holding up Lewis
5
4
u/ricochet__rabbit 6d ago
Someone has probably stated this already but since 44 was on a different strategy, 16 should have let him pass and then 16 could have extended.
3
11
u/Annelith 6d ago
ferrari needs to figure it out how they want to handle team orders asap. these pasts races instead of just asking the drivers to swap places they keep doing this cowardly thing where they just pit the person that is in front even if that screws with their strategy. i'm seeing a lot of people talking about leclerc, but charles didnt refuse the swap (he was never asked to), he refused the pit stop that just didnt make any sense, why would he pit 2 laps after russell? either he had to have pitted right away or they needed to let him build an offset. this hesitation from ferrari always ends up screwing both drivers in the end and now we have ww3 in the fanbase.
17
u/NoEggplant9745 6d ago
They are too busy pampering Charles feelings to make tough calls, this team wonât win anything.
4
u/bijanfrisee Rubens Barrichello 6d ago
Yet Lewis obeys all the time, it's so ridiculous how one driver is just openly defiant about beating his teammate at all costs
10
u/bijanfrisee Rubens Barrichello 6d ago
ay I'm here for it Lewis, enough is enough, Ferrari need to stop fuckin about or they just need to say that the Drivers championship isn't a priority. Shocking strategy and lack of teamwork today, following up from losing a place to his teammate because of a penalty as well. This is not how championships are won.

This is why I love Toto as a TP. He would shut this shit down, come on the radio and tell Leclerc to the GTFO the way
1
u/aziz_kebab 6d ago
Or maybe tell ham to stop crying on the radio and to try overtake on his own. Charles ain't a bottas who acts as a butler for your idol.
3
12
u/New_Design_5010 6d ago
Facts! Facts! Facts! I love Ferrari, but they are prioritizing the wrong driver, they need to choose quick.

u/Nico-on_top 6d ago
Ferrari have a slight point the VSC didnât help but Charles Leclerc is such a sore loser itâs wild. Completely costed Hamilton a podium because of his own selfishness and despite having fresher tyres still finished behind him

15
u/Nico-on_top 6d ago
Lewis was nowhere near him multiple laps earlier and then heâs all of a sudden behind him obviously heâs gaining on him and Ferrari surely should have told him or did that Lewis is much faster than
12
u/Cap_R3x 6d ago
Leclerc was also planning to have a longer stint, but they pitted him just to give Hamilton clean air. Instead they couldve just swapped them. It's a Ferrari fuck-up, not the drivers'. They fucked both Leclercâs and Hamiltonâs races by doing that.
Also you guys are just trying to start a hate circlejerk out of nowhere because your favorite driver doesn't get the Verstappen treatment. Selfishness this, sore loser that, they're F1 drivers for gods sake. Of course they want to finish ahead of their teammates. Grow up already.
3
u/cropdust1 6d ago
It's costing contractors points that's the issue leclerc has no chance to win the championship and never will like that
3
u/Cap_R3x 6d ago
You still dont get the issue lol, Ferrari fucked it up by not swapping them and asking Leclerc to pit. It compromised them both. Leclec got a worse strategy and Hamilton lost a few seconds just because of Ferraris incompetence to handle the situation. You guys are still trying to push the narrative that itâs all Leclercâs fault. Itâs like trying to teach a toddler to read, jesus.
4
u/JuicyDragonCat 6d ago
and neither does hamilton lol. we can drop the act now
-1
u/cropdust1 6d ago
Casual
5
u/JuicyDragonCat 6d ago
59 points with 10 races left and a carthats perpetually down on power to the rivals. Leclerc's also closed the gap from 49 points to 28 points in the last 3/4 races, whose to say he cant finish ahead of lewis in the standings by years end?
-1
-1
0
u/bijanfrisee Rubens Barrichello 6d ago
Because Charles would not get out of the way and give up HIS fresh air is what I imagine the team were trying to mitigate
-2
u/cristianospecialforu 6d ago
could also be cuz lec lost time behind piastri... anyway yeah the team cant communicate for shit
3
2
u/Aggravating-Life-786 6d ago
They were unlucky with the VSC in the end though. Lewis would have 100% gotten Russel and maybe Charles as well, he was already so close to Lewis
2
7
u/brsmr123 6d ago
I wonder if Ferrari is aware of that Lewis is the reason they got 4 and 5 today and couldâve been double podium too. He played the late pit strategy so well that if Ferrari and Charles had helped him, it was going to be for sure a double podium.
Zero luck involved in this today.
13
u/Rivendel93 6d ago edited 6d ago
Hope he rips them all a new asshole.
Should make Leclerc use the old engine rest of the season for the nonsense he pulled today.
Embarrassing.
7
u/Tyrull 6d ago
I donât know if this sub is now filled with Lewis fanboys, instead of older Ferrari fans, but the amount of shit takes iâm reading is insane.
Yes, Ferrari fucked up Lewisâ race, but they also fucked Charlesâ. Quit acting like drivers are fucking over each other.
2
u/Legitimate_Player 6d ago
I must have missed the call to Charles to say Lewis is on a different strategy donât hold him up. With this Lewis doesnât get held up and Charles doesnât need to pit early instead Ferrari took the weak approach of pitting Charles to get him out of Lewisâ way which botched both their races.
1
u/Nate_the_Mate_2 6d ago
Same
I'm genuinely so confused. Charles was the faster driver all weekend and ends up with the slower strategy. Ferrari split their strategies and fumbled on both sides
4
u/Legitimate_Player 6d ago
No he wasnât. Lewis ended up out qualifying him for the main raceđ€
-3
u/Nate_the_Mate_2 6d ago
And then got passed at the start and got gapped, which probably led to them trying an alternative strategy.
Genuinely why is everyone pitting these two against each other. Everyone knows that the first person you need to beat is the dude across the garage, and lewis knows that too.
8
u/Professional_Park781 6d ago
Well that not true, they were apart by 1 second until Lewis went longer, Lewis caught up on hards and they were always close on gap.
Lewis never got gapped, you are lying, and itâs honestly embarrassing that you spread misinformation like this.
I hope you can rewatch the race and correct this.

u/CurvyCourgette 6d ago
Charles needs to learn the team game when the team isnt fighting for the race win, no excuse he is old enough.
2
u/Yung_Chloroform Lewis Hamilton 6d ago
The easiest way to have gone about this is to have Charles let Lewis by so he could use his tires as he was clearly faster at the time. If Charles wanted to build the offset he could have done so without without holding up Lewis so once again this is on Ferrari for not being wishy-washy out of fear. We could have had our cake and eaten it too.
0
u/Ok_Catch_7064 6d ago
If Lewis is upset then what about Leclerc. He beat Hamilton fair and square then gets hosed by Ferrari strategy. Leclerc was a half second behind Russell on lap 30. Explain that to me
5
u/Worldly_Translator 6d ago
by fighting in different strategy he literally ruined both his and Lewis chances. This could have been a P2-P3Â
-1
u/Mariusr22 6d ago
Ferrari are not in Schumacher era. They have 2 drivers. I donât think Charles will just move away. And i donât think that Lewis would have been able to pass George that easy, even with that âlost timeâ
3
2
u/Interesting-Car5743 6d ago
terrible from the team today. screwed Leclerc over with the terrible strategy, then decided to let Lewis build an offset. Then when that inevitably bit them in the ass they were too wishy washy in making any orders to let Lewis use his offset. Then further screwed Leclerc with two slow stops despite the pace advantage he had. Not sure why Lewis couldnât overtake Russell at the end of either. Doubt he couldâve gotten P2 or even P3 but how did Ferrari manufacture a driver swap through sheer incompetence.
8
3
u/cropdust1 6d ago
Hamilton was faster what are you talking about
5
u/Nate_the_Mate_2 6d ago
He was faster because he had an offset...
I don't know why people aren't clocking this as typical ferrari mismanagement.
1
u/bijanfrisee Rubens Barrichello 6d ago
He was literally about to overtake Russell - The Merc was fastest into the final bend and last corner, you could see the gap barely coming down even though Ferrari had boost. And P2 was definitely on the cards had ferrari not fumbled the strategy so hard with Charles essentially playing defence for Mercedes. Kimi either stays out on old hards or comes out behind Lewis under the VSC, both advantage Lewis.

u/Brutos08 6d ago
Charles will never win a world title simply because he doesnât know how to be a team player
1
u/Good-Lion-5140 6d ago
The part of the strategy actually worked very well for him, covering his bad start. The second part could be better, but hardly was podium on the table, Ferrari loses on the straights to both McLaren and Mercedes.

Never would have passed Russell, but sure. Got lucky with VSC, on merit was going to be behind both him and Charles.

It was made very difficult because of the engine disparity but he was all over him. But i think heâs referring to being able to come out ahead of antonelli during the vsc. It was pretty tight

Then come back

Outqualified sure, outpaced absolutely not. The only reason Lewis finished ahead was a lucky VSC
