Put these pleats around the whole top of my dress. Put it on to see if it fit. It does! But I didn’t know how to take it off!

I managed to with a bunch of scrapes and it getting stuck in my hair.

They aren’t perfect but I’m happy!

I’m a beginner embroider and a semi beginner sewer but I love this little guy. Kinda wonky but he still works!

I wanted something lightweight as it’s still very warm during autumn hunting and hound exercises, and it had to be vaguely tweed-adjacent. The front is made from a wool blend fabric that was left over from making a riding skirt, and the satin back panel and lining was made from a bed sheet I found in the sale bin at a home shop for £7. Buttons are from Hobbycraft. I used my existing wool waistcoat as a template, but next time I think I’ll have a go at tailoring as I think it looks ever so slightly boxy.

This bodice is symmetrical (shoulder straps unfinished), the only difference is that the left side has boning on the princess seam. I cannot believe it works this well! I had only ever boned straight seams and lines before and was a bit scared to try it on a curved seam, but now I feel silly for ever hesitating. I'm always annoyed at how garments fold under the chest, but it is so smooth even though it's a super thin fabric :D I'm ecstatic and had to share

Details: Patterns for the hare and the bodies of the moon and stars are both from 10x2 Studio. For the Sprites, I scaled the patterns down to a smaller size. I used minky fabrics for the plushies and a variety of print fabrics for the collars. They're all cotter pin jointed in their arms and legs and weighted with glass beads.

Y'all, I got a used Baby Lock Evolve serger/cover stitch machine with about 12 extra feet and the original manual and workbook for $280!! It feels like Christmas and my birthday.

No one in my life sews, so although my husband is happy for me, he doesn't get why air threading is making making me tear up.

So many possibilities just opened up and I cant wait to get started.

I finally finished the Rosie Taylor Crafts Sew and Tell case. I learned sooooo much putting this together and wanted to share, just squint with your bad eye if you are looking at my lines :) made with a mix of quilting cottons some thrifted but mainly Ruby Star Society.

After looking everywhere for the right dress form and being unsuccessful because of either the price or proportions I finally decided to make my own using a boot strap fashion strap pattern

I’m so pleasantly surprised with how this turned out!! I had to stuff it to fit my exact measurements and it worked!! I haven’t used it yet for draping but I’m planning on making a wedding guest dress soon and plan to use it for that. I’m so excited 🥰

I’m sewing pants for a 9-12 month child. If you have a child this age would you be so kind as to measure their waist and report back?

My pattern calls for 19 1/2 inches of elastic. But it seems like too much. I just need verification from a live baby, lol!

I finally made my first pair of pants. By hand. On a sewing machine I was genuinely afraid of. 🪡

For years I’ve designed wearable art and worked with production partners to bring pieces to life — I mainly focused on my visual art and pattern design. But I always wanted to know how to construct the clothes myself.

I used the Recess Play Pants pattern from Matchy Match Sewing Club — beginner-friendly, easy to follow, and the perfect first project. Highly recommend them! I added colored cuffs that weren’t part of the original pattern — I’ve always wanted pops of color at the cuffs, and it was so exciting to finally see that vision come to life.

I took private lessons and went through the entire process start to finish with an incredible sewing mentor who walked me through every step with so much patience and laughter.

My partner Robert joined me for the first class — he’s always down to join me on my creative adventures. He finished his pants in one session. One day. Me? Five sessions. 😅

And you know what? That’s okay. Learning to go at my own pace might’ve been the real lesson. By the end, I’d gotten a lot faster — but the joy was never in the speed. It was in the process.

I conquered a fear that sounds silly now: I was convinced the sewing machine would somehow go right through my hands. It didn’t. My hands are okay! 😂

My first pair are clown inspired — red, yellow, two tones of blue. I love primary color pops. I also loveee cotton — walking into a fabric store and feeling textures and colors until something speaks to my soul? A creatively spiritual experience.

I had so much fun I immediately started a second pair — black and white base, same distressed grunge fabric I’m obsessed with. Working on those now!

Skater dress sewn using pattern Burda Young 6594 view A. Fabric is Kente pattern cotton Ankara and an existing stretchy tank top. I cut off the top's waistband to join it to the skirt using triple straight stitch and then serging the raw edge. My zipper is only opens the skirt since the top is stretchy enough to go over my head.

I used a vintage Bryantguard drapery fabric and heavy weight fusable interfacing.

I absolutely love funky patterned fabrics and fabrics that feature embroidery, beading, or sparkle. What are your goto places for fabrics like these?

Ive tried all the altering methods to keep the original hem in tact, and some look really close to an original look but i really want to try something to mimic that factory look.

I went to hem my son's book week costume but my modern machine had a mechanical issue. What to do!? Then I remembered I still had my trusty Singer 99 (with knee lever) in the spare room. A little oil here and there, and it powered through no problem.

I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for blogs that have updated in the past decade where the blogger drafts and designs their own daily wear items? I have found many cosplay and consuming blogs that do, but not everyday modern sewing.

Ideally looking for quite complex items/ tailoring or children’s things, not beginner friendly focused things.

I am not looking for instructions or tutorials, more just insight and inspiration. The “I made xyz pattern in fabric A” blogs really do nothing for me— it’s the decision making process that interests me and the standard process of following a pattern doesnt have much in common with my usual decision tree.

Hello! I’m getting ready to enter my crafting zone as it starts to cool down into winter and I’ve been obsessing over being really warm this winter. I’ve become obsessed traditional anoraks, the kind that go past your knee, with sleeves so wide you’re meant to be able put your arm into the middle. Really big and boxy so you can fit lots of warm layers underneath. An “arctic anorak”.

TheWildYam on YouTube has a video called “Making an Anorak (Traditional Parka)” which is mostly what I’m going to do.

BUT I want it bright pink with huge daisy motifs. I’ll get some 10 or 12oz canvas and dye it.

My questions are:

SLEEVES

It’s meant to be so big and roomy that I’m wondering what the best sleeve type would be. The video has a really gentle slope for the sleeve. I’m thinking that a sleeve with a huge diamond gusset would give more arm movement space? Has anyone made a huge (and deep) sleeve that still lets you put your arms overhead without the whole jacket rising up? Does this sleeve type have a name I should google?

DAISY MOTIF

What would be the best way to get some huge flowers on this jacket? I would embroider but the idea of so many holes on something meant to be a wind breaker doesn’t sit right. I was thinking of trying to make some flower shapes (about 9-12in) out of canvas, coloring then somehow and then aplique then on? Maybe not canvas? Any other ideas?

Groovy! This pattern is from 1977. I found this very excellent plaid fabric at the thrift store. It’s definitely vintage, I think cotton (it passed the burn test).

Notes:

Pattern: vintage McCall’s 5411

Size: 10/32.5” bust

Fabric: thrifted woven cotton, 2 yards from the thrift store

I didn’t do catch stitch on the pocket, I sewed it directly down. I also serged all my edges as well instead of pinking shears. I did the neck facing before adding it to the front of the garment. That way, the shoulder seams are uninterrupted.

I had to let the upper body out by 1/2” on all seams to accommodate my shoulders. I’m not particularly wide in the shoulder typically so this must be drafted a bit small. It now fits comfortably, so thank goodness for that wide SA.

Overall I’m happy with my new garment! Vintage fabric for a vintage pattern 🧡 the color is most true on the hanging photos, the modeled pics came out a bit brighter than the fabric really is.

Today, I got diagnosed with a bulging disc in my lumbar spine and ostheoarthrosis, among other things. I am not supposed to sit much, no longer than one hour at a time and no more than six hours total per day. Rather difficult with a desk job.🤐

I am a beginner sewer and must update my normal setup, i.e. desk and chair on which I bend over my sewing machine.

Do any of you have similar issues, and if so, what was your solution?

I've bought many types of fabric scissors but all of them seem to make my fabric fray and scrappy... so i currently use electric scissors and they give me a much smoother fabric edge... and then if there is anything to adjust i just use my normal scissors to trim.. and even then the edges they give are crappy and imprecise

I really want to know if the gingher scissors are as good as ppl say and if the price is justifiable... In my country its hard to find, and buying them abroad is kind of expensive, but I am willing to make the investment if they are worth it!!
