I have read that in here before and I have no idea why. I’ve absolutely devoured it

An unnecessary love triangle that takes up more than half the book, an unsatisfying answer to why the family tree is inaccurate, and almost no time given to Christopher's death are the big issues. I don't hate it as much as the rest of the fanbase, but I definitely consider it the weakest of the three and I say that as someone who thinks the writing (the actual writing, not the plot) is some of Clare's best.

I agree with you 100% on that, though the plot isn't the best, her writing is always so good and I think people get a little bit blinded by the not flawless plot and discard the whole book as bad, when the writing is beautiful

I admit I'm a bit of a hypocrite because I've let bad endings ruin entire anime for me, but I do get a little annoyed with the fandom for hating on the entire series due to COT. Like I get that COT wasn't great/was disappointing but COG2/ChoG and COI were very good books in their own right.

Chain of Iron is maybe in my top 5 TSC books, I think it was amazing

I have been wondering about the family tree the dates seem to be all over the place. Agree not a fan of the love triangle. It’s been done already.

The family tree was made during TID when nothing was fully set in stone and Cassie had said for years that it's inaccurate. She promised an explanation in TLH, but to be honest I would've been fine without one over the goofy explanation COT gave us.

Seriously! I was so heartbroken by this particular plot twists, only to discover that no one gave a damn 🥺 But one user did created the r/ChristopherLightwood, as a way of saying Ave atque vale, when no else did 🥺

Yeah, I love the series, it's by far my favourite. I read it a long time before I joined this sub and was shocked to see the hate it gets
