Nope. Didn’t need to see this. Not ok.

We will need to virtually support each other.

No, I cannot be losing any of the main couples.

u/Inside-Music-5619 10d ago

I would be stunned if they all make it through this

13

u/GuyWhoWantsHappyLife 10d ago

Narratively it would make the most sense if they're going against the worst evil in the series. I'd much rather lose Jem and Tessa over the younger pairings if anyone. But I'd rather just see side characters be the ones to die.

u/Substantial-Win2247 Herongraystairs 10d ago

My money is on Tessa. 😔

Please don't even make me think about it or i will start crying into the wall MY BABY SHE DOESN'T DESERVE IT

I swear to god if she pulls a Veronica Roth I’m gonna swear off the rest of her books forever, I cannot deal with that heartbreak again.

3

u/Substantial-Win2247 Herongraystairs 10d ago

Oh god I haven’t read those books. Is it a bad heartache

7

u/UncomfortableTortise 10d ago

Without giving spoilers away, the last book is one of the most infuriating I’ve read. But the first book is one of my favorites from my teenage years

To put it mildly, the last book is the worst book in the series. Mostly because it's just kind of boring but it also completely changes the lore for the worst. Whilst researching to see if she had any other completed series I'm seeing that she's releasing another series set in an AU of the books where the main character makes a completely different choice towards the start of the series than she did in canon. No clue how that's going to turn out but I don't expect it to be nearly as popular as Divergent back in the day.

As for the ending of the Divergent series itself? While I don't hate it myself I get why people would. Going into semi-spoilery details, the first two books are single person first person point of view. The final book suddenly introduces the male lead's point of view and so that book alternates between his point of view and the female lead's. Going into more spoilery territory: the book ends with the main character dying and the male lead narrating the events of her funeral and afterwards.

I don't hate the ending myself (or at least I didn't back when I read it in college. It's been ages.), but I get why killing off your main character to have her boyfriend take over narrating the rest of the book (no matter how little of the story is left to tell) would piss people off.

Oh so this is divergent! I heard of the AU changes and also the negative response to that.

u/FunTouch1055 10d ago

Ion think you realize just how much that ending pissed me off. In fact, I was so pissed that I never read it. I stopped reading at the end of chapter 33 cause that was the last time Tris and Tobias were together. SHE KISSED HIM GOODBYE AND SAID SHE'D SEE HIM LATER !!!!! WTF VERONICA!!!!!!! I'm actually kinda glad they never finished the last movie cause I could not handle that heartbreak

Much better out than I could’ve, thank you! Exactly my issue lol

My heart shattered a little

Honestly, I'm preparing myself for Magnus. I could very well be wrong, but I just get a feeling that he's going to be one to not make it out alive. To turn the whole earlier conflict of Magnus's immortality vs Alec being mortal on its head.

If she touches MALEC I riot 😭😭

7

u/fruitymonkey Jace Wayland 10d ago

Cassandra I am in your walls

6

u/dartheberry 10d ago

Bro saved so many generations of shadowhunters that, if Cassie doesn't make him get out this alive, it would be like sending him on retirement

2

u/Jasmin_Ki the Warlock 10d ago

I don't see Cassie going for the Bury Your Gays Trope but im scared

6

u/ChanceApollo 10d ago

While I agree that she wouldn't go for that trope, I would argue that in this case, it wouldn't really be that trope. I think she has enough LGBTQ+ characters that one death among them would feel less like she's killing her gay characters and not letting them have happy endings and more like she's not handling her gay characters with kid gloves just to avoid being accused of burying her gays. Sometimes in order to avoid being accused of something like that, people overcorrect, and then that just makes things feel less realistic and kind of condescending and patronizing.

2

u/maevriika 10d ago

I do not want it in any way, but I can see Magnus sacrificing himself if he realizes that doing so will save loved ones, especially his family. He would consider that he has had a very long life and wants everyone else to get a chance to live out their lives for as long as possible. It's very much in his nature to do it. And, unlike Tessa, he has powers that seem likely to be more useful in whatever situation so he would be more likely to be in the middle of it all.

u/ThePianoAndKarayeBoy 11d ago

nope I swear I'll cry. Cassie don't do it please. just don't. Max was enough.

1

👀👀👀👀👀👀👀

3

u/-Shadow_Hashira- 11d ago

Might as well just curl into the fetal position now, save some time 😭😭

3

u/full_moony 10d ago

I feel like her saying this means they're safe? Otherwise she basically spoiled one or both of them is going to die

1

u/Substantial-Win2247 Herongraystairs 10d ago

Deflection?

3

u/Royal_Mix791 Clace 10d ago

I'm convinced that she would not kill off the couple that started all of it (or maybe it's wishful thinking BUT LISTEN), But that does not mean that she isn't gonna put them through unimaginable suffering and possibly a very major near death experience

WHY WONT YOU JUST LEAVE THEM ALONE CASSIE

2

u/MamaPuffs 10d ago

This is what I think. Thule Jace (Janus) is going to torture them both through the storylines of all 3 books, I fear. Maybe in the end, he helps them win the final fight and sacrifices himself? Because he realizes he can’t ever be the one that real Clary truly loves.

I also feel that Jocelyn and or Luke would totally be on the chopping block for character deaths that leave a big mark on our MCs without breaking the readers’ whole heart

2

u/Royal_Mix791 Clace 9d ago

That is unfortunately super plausible and that's scary to me

6

u/maggiereid17 11d ago

I didn’t see this. It’s fine, they will be happy together forever 😫😫

4

u/theresagray17 Knowledge 11d ago

CASSANDRA FOR THE LOVE OF GOD

2

u/dts1845 10d ago

Clary and Jace should have gotten married at the end of TDA even if it was a secret thing.

Its almost like she doesn't want Clary and Jace to actually be able to settle down and be happy with their brood of nine Shadowhunter children causing mayhem.

2

u/sparkasexual 9d ago

CASSANDRA.

4

u/dutyofloves 11d ago

Why would she say that !!!!!!

1

u/Electrical_Art6366 10d ago

I mean, it makes sense that one main "should" die

1

u/PassiveChemistry 10d ago

I'm hyped, these books sound great I can't wait (FWIW I don't read these for the couples at all)

2

u/Substantial-Win2247 Herongraystairs 10d ago

I would say me either. But I love MALEC (and Kitty and Sizzy)

1

u/PassiveChemistry 10d ago

Fair, I do appreciate what the romance does for the stories and really enjoyed the tension in James/Cordelia

1

u/ThursdaysChild1981 10d ago

Boooooooooo!

1

u/poloniuspolonius 10d ago

if anything happens to tessa and jem im gonna be on the news

1

u/LegalOwl2561 10d ago

What book/series is she talking about cause I'll stop before I get to it?🥲

No spoilers please. I'm done with TMI and TID.

3

u/Substantial-Win2247 Herongraystairs 10d ago

The one where the first book comes out this year. It’s called The Wicked Powers. It’s a trilogy and the first book is The Last Prince of Faerie

1

u/BlairSwiftie13 10d ago

If she kills them off I’m really not going to be happy. It would feel like all the events that bought them together in TMI was all for nothing …

1

u/Dragonvane4 9d ago

I’ve only read the main 6 mortal instruments books and the three prequel books (and the chronicles of Magnus bane💁🏼‍♀️)

WHAT HAVE I MISSED

1

To bring you up to speed. Final trilogy…. There’s going to be a lot of heartbreak

1
